A Look at NCAA's New Look Dynasty

EA Sports has never failed to amuse it's audience with their stellar gameplay, outstanding player physics and of course it's deep dynasty modes. Once again, they have outdone themselves and have made quite the deep dynasty for NCAA '08. Not only can you take over a team and live the dream of bringing your favourite college football team to the BCS Championship game, they've added a nice little feature where you can create a prospect. To me, and I'm sure all of you, this means alot. Imagine if you will, the star quarterback for your team is the one and only... you. Lead your school to the bowl games, or if you really like, put him on a school with little prestige and put them on the map.

If creating a superstar isn't for you and you love to keep things natural, so be it. When you start your dynasty and choose your school, the first thing they'll address to you is your team needs. This year they make it alot easier to find that perfect fit for your team. There is a search feature that allows you to breakdown the players by caliber (which is the five-star rating), position, state, height, weight, 40-yard dash time and of course, commitment status. When you submit the search it will show you by percentage of what your ideal stats compared to with the players. Of course, if this doesn't tickle your fancy, you can do it the old way and search by state and look at all the prospects yourself. Apparently, the commitment status is key to signing that star player. The more in-depth your season gets the more you have to offer on your plate for that star.

Remember, you are not the only school interested in that key player. Other schools may have more to offer than yours, which makes this part of the game very interesting. After you're done looking for recruits, you can place them by priority. Need that quarterback more than anything? Place him above the others. This is key because if they are not in your top 5 you cannot invite him to your campus, or offer him those promises like before. How you prioritize your players is up to you, so choose wisely. Once this is done, it's time to try to convince those players to wear your school jersey's. By going to the "my school" menu, it will show you how your rating compares to all the other schools in the country. They break down as follows: academic prestige, campus lifestyle, coach experience, coach prestige, conference prestige, championship contender, athletic facilities, fan base, pro factory, program stability, program tradition, and television exposure. So, it goes without saying a team like Ohio State Buckeyes will fair much better than a school like UNLV Rebels.

Now don't think they are going to make it simple to acquire your dream player. Just like in the previous year, you'll have to make contact with that athlete. Making phone calls, giving them your pitches on a variety of school aspects and whatever you think they might have an interest in. This is where the fun begins. You'll have 10 "hours" to converse with your prospect and every pitch you give to him will take time off your hours. The more you talk to the player, the more you understand his needs and wants. So at first, it's kind of a guessing game... until you really get to know him. As the season goes on and you know more about your prospect, the pitches that are available to you will become locked. For example, if he really thinks the school's prestige is of an importance, it'll be locked as "most". Now that you have got a feel for what he likes, throw the pitch at him. Don't go too crazy on the hard sell though because it could lead to upsetting your prospect and him not wanting to come at all. Also, if you cannot convince a player there's an option called "sway", which will help try to persuade him into coming. This won't work every time, so use this at your own risk. The final piece to the puzzle is the "promise" feature. Anything from being a first string starter to winning the national championship. Remember though, once the promise is made, you're expected to keep it. If you do fulfill your promise you're coach integrity rating raises, which allows you to access more promises the next year.

One of the newly added features of NCAA '08 is the sim feature. During the game, you can sim plays or even until your next possession. If you really like, you could even skip the whole quarter or game. It's a nice way to see what happens during the game without actually having to sit there and play it. This won't be for everyone I'm sure, but a nice feature regardless.

I hope that by reading this article you all want to go out and purchase this game. We all have lots of college football seasons ahead of us and I wish you all the best of luck on winning the national championship.
