I'm more than happy to reveal my character name: Mohinder Suresh.
I won't talk too much about my ability, except to note that I do not have an ability to discover people's powers, which would seem like the most logical thing.

Hey folks, just finished reading, post count coming soon. Deadline is in about an hour and a half.
Alan T is of course still in the game.
path12
03-05-2008, 10:25 AM
I don't think Alan should drop out of the game. I hope that he will see this and send JEHeinz a note apologizing for bringing drama to his game. Why not just drop his thoughts on certain things until after the game is over?
Why don't people read Alan's posts????
Jesus, Alan. Suck it up, man. ;)

Also, I was really hoping yesterday that Chief Rum or one of the late-night guys was going to have some meaningful information for us to act on - playing blind for two days in a row kinda sucks.
Little tough to have a lot of info after one night. My thoughts:
1) Way too much is being made of the Pass/Alan thing. The infinitely small things that end up being "issues" day 1 almost always end up being just nothing. Therefore, I think it's either lazy or wolfish to push Thomkal for a vote. Yeah, I called names there. :) I do believe though that those who seemed to push this as an issue deserve a tick or two towards the don't trust list (DaddyTorgo, nfg, I'm looking at you, kids).
2) Two no lynches in a row does NOTHING to help the heroes win the game. What happens tomorrow when little info comes out? Another no lynch? Neon following on Narcizo's first no lynch vote so quickly pings me mightily.
3) While it's important to keep in mind that NAMES might be good or bad, it seems pretty clear so far that a person's name does have at least some relation to their ability. An important distinction that I think has been glossed over.
That said, for the reason stated in point 2 I'm going to
VOTE NEON CHAOS
Alan T
03-05-2008, 10:34 AM
Looks like Thomkal at 4 and a bunch of people at 2. I'm making this move partially because of Ardent placing a vote on me for no reason previously, but also I am kind of curious to see how St.Cronin will react if Ardent actually gets in trouble and risked lynching.

2nd quote of this to add, I simply disagree that pushing a no lynch position will tell us anything in a runoff vote with a player, we need player vs player so I chose someone with one vote already to try and bump them into the fray.
We now have 1 with 4 votes and 2 with 2 votes, perhaps some of the rest of you will move to one of these folks andwe'll be able to really learn something here.
Does that make more sense?

03-05-2008, 10:38 AM
Ok, I have to get ready for work and deal with the kids. I most definitely won;t be back before lynch so make the vote close people , lets learn something from the lynch today!

In case you haven't read through most of the thread, I did point out the reasons why I chose to vote that way. I was simply doing it because it was safer for the village rather than casting a blind vote on someone at that point in time.

VOTE ARDENT ENTHUSIAST
Reasoning: He's voted No Lynch today which I really really don't like, and already has 2 votes on him so if he is a wolf trying to encourage us to be "sitting ducks" by not lynching, there is a shot of other people agreeing and we have a shot at lynching him today.
I'm around and happy to answer questions, explain further if I need to...

A very close vote. I really don't like the votes on Neon and Ardent since it feels to me people more have a problem with the times they're available than the players themselves. Circumstances, of course, dictate that I will be moving my vote. I could vote for Thomkal, Jackal, or ae. Seeing as ae will be moving his vote soon, I won't be placing my vote on him (he'll just place it on me and create a tie.) I don't really buy the Alan T / Pass fight, so I won't be voting for Thomkal.
I have no idea how I was suddenly on the block, but that leaves me voting for the last guy left.

03-05-2008, 11:17 AM
3. As for Mr. Wednesdays vote on me b/c I was quiet yesterday - I got some very bad, devastating news about my father yesterday, there is a thread in GD where I'm asking for prayers...I went into shut down mode and was not in a frame of mind to deal with anything yesterday, let alone a WW game. I'm here today, a bit shell shocked so I can't guarantee that I'm going to be overly vocal, but I will be staying in the game and will certainly contribute when I have something to say.
I was in WW before I was in Off Topic. If I'd done it in the other order, I would never have voted for you.
Barkeep49
03-05-2008, 11:18 AM
how do you know that?
You're right it wouldn't prove it absolutely but Sylar would be telling a HELL of a risk picking a name from the list which another player, more likely than not, already has. I just don't see Sylar taking that chance.

The Jackal
03-05-2008, 11:36 AM
Well, crap. I'm at work and just got caught up. There's really no reason to have all these votes on me. Someone decided to put a few on me yesterday and because of that I'm about to be lynched? I'm a hero, albeit not an extremely powerful one but I definitely have a useful role, and getting rid of me would be a very poor idea. I don't want to vote for no lynch but I will if this run on me doesn't go away.

No, I don't know how ineffective it is. I can't remember being involved in a two-day no lynch where everyone had powers. A mitigating factor why I chose the no lynch rout was because we all had powers.
If this were a normal WW game, a no-lynch for day 2 would be a big no-no. Why? Because it would be more practical to potentially sacrifice a regular villager in order to weed out the wolves. The chance of lynching someone with a helpful power would be remote.
But in a game where everyone had powers? It's to our advantage that we keep as many of us alive as long as possible, specially when we're still flying blind in order to be able to benefit more from everyone's powers.

I don't want to vote for no lynch but I will if this run on me doesn't go away.

I admit I am not familiar with the case against the Jackal at all.
I think it's just the fact that there were a few votes put on me on day 1, and since we've got no real direction on day 2, people returned to someone who'd been voted in day 1. I believe the original reason someone put a vote on me is because I remarked that being the sylar would be cool, a statement which I will never retract, because I think it'd be fun to be that role, but that really shouldn't get me lynched. Waste of a day if it happens like that.

Yep, if i was a wolf, it would be really easy to know who was a wolf.
That wasn't quite the approach I was taking. I think it seemed pretty obvious to me that Thomkal/Pass not only was good but also had a role that we don't want to lose. The Jackal seems to be a victim of a setup pretty similar to what I felt was happening to me last night.
Neon is the only wildcard out of the bunch, and my gut feeling is that Ardent is bad and people pushed Neon up there to save Ardent, thus making neon likely good.
So I might be wrong, but I'll still bet that all three are good.

Alan, are you in favor of no lynch?
I think all of the absolutes that people are using in saying "A Day 2 no lynch is bad" isn't really accurate. We had a game last year where two straight days of no lynches not only ended up being real good for us but helped us win the game. It was a game similar to this where everyone had roles and alot of information was out there.
I'm not as convinced that this game is as open to the information being forthcoming, but just based on some reactions of various players.. I think there is -SOME- information out there, just not available to the entire group as of yet.
I'm not pushing for a no lynch today, I wanted to see Ardent get lynched today.. but I think saying cut and dry no lynch is bad is inaccurate in some cases.

I don't know that there is much better of a case against Ardent than any of you three. I'm just going off of hunches right now. Like anything else I might be entirely wrong, but my gut is just telling me that Ardent might be bad because of how he acted in regards to his vote on me previously (without a reason), and then seeing how certain other players I'm suspicious of reacted in regards to him once he got in the middle of the heat.

Ardent Enthusiast was working for The Company!
Then suddenly all of the bloody mish-mash of what was Ardent Enthusiast just disappears. In death, he went invisible.

I don't have too much of a problem with sndvls play. he gave us some information on mauboy (not enough to clear him, but some information at least), I doubt Ando is a high priority for Sylar to hunt down and I'm guessing as the rules state there are some duplicates of powers, so he probably isn't the only one with a similar ability.
The only thing I don't like is by narrowing down who not to go for, you give less targets for Sylar to have to choose from.. but I don't have an issue with the reveal at all.

The only issue I have with it, persay, is that it seems like it would've been better for us if that role stayed hidden until it got some real info, you know? Ando was one of the ones I brought up the other day questioning what type of power or ability he would have had.. he really is rather insignificant in the show, and basically acts as a character to allow Hiro to "explain" a story for the audience through Ando.
If I had to guess on day 1, Ando's super power would have been to fetch lemonade or something.. so really its as reasonable as anything else I suppose.

As you can see, I partially agree, especially as far as it being way too suspicious to move that vote late. There very well could be something in people trying to save, but obviously there wasn't enough movement for that to be successful.
I also think that it would be helpful (from both a trust and game standpoint) to get a little more info about how hoops vote got switched. Whoever did that gained some in my eyes, though could it have been Sylar somehow?

Could it be that people were trying to prevent an Ardent - Thomkal tie, pushing votes towards me and Jackal, because both are wolves?
Maybe, but hard for me to go there entirely since I voted for you and a) I know I'm not a wolf, and b) I thought it was a reasonable vote.

We need to figure out Thomkal. If Thomkal = villager, then we have a substantial COT.

I also think that it would be helpful (from both a trust and game standpoint) to get a little more info about how hoops vote got switched. Whoever did that gained some in my eyes, though could it have been Sylar somehow?
I think we'll end up getting good info from this vote, in addition to getting a bad guy.
I doubt it was sylar. I think we will learn more about sylar after he kills. If we go by the show sylar won't have any powers until he kills someone.

If I am killed I also want to get it out there that BK seemed to know alot about the mechanics of sylars role and when I pushed him on it he dissapeared
When was that? I'll have to go back when I get a chance.

This whole Thomkal suspicion still baffles me. Are you saying that from a standpoint of votes switching to no lynch/others in order to save him?
Neon_Chaos
03-05-2008, 12:33 PM
Actually, Thomkal just shutting his mouth, refusing to move his vote at all during those last few minutes (despite being safely behind thanks to people moving their votes)....
And then apologizing to Jackal right after the deadline? Apologize that he didn't want a fellow wolf get lynched outright, perhaps?
Something just isn't right with how Thomkal acted towards the end.

Giving your hero name at this point would prove you're not Sylar but not clear you of being Company so I don't see it really helping you.
how do you know that?
You're right it wouldn't prove it absolutely but Sylar would be telling a HELL of a risk picking a name from the list which another player, more likely than not, already has. I just don't see Sylar taking that chance.
again, where does it say that sylar wasn't given an alias, or that sylar has a list of who is in the game?
JH stated as much earlier on.
I must have missed that, can you show me where?
When was that? I'll have to go back when I get a chance.
That was the last we heard from BK, now it is the middle of the day in all fairness.

Night Two Results
After the explosion of ardent and an ok nights' sleep you wake with a bounce in your step when you get out of bed. Again you flip on the news and hear a horrible story. It seems that out in some gigantic field a teenager was found, dead as a board. No speculation as to the cause of death. Eerily, you recognize the kid. It was oliegirl, West Rosen, a Hero.
West Rosen</ST1:p
You are one of the Heroes
Your goal is to both eliminate all of the Company members and to eliminate Sylar as well
<O:p
Power:
You have dual abilities, kinda. The first is Matt Parkman can read minds, and can communicate freely with you. The 2nd, is the ability to fly. As someone who can fly, you are harder to kill and can spy on people easily. Each night you can either A) Protect yourself or B) Spy on someone. Your success at either is random (i.e. you could choose to protect yourself and still die, you could Spy on someone and learn nothing)

Votes switching. If the votes moved from Thomkal (villager) to Ardent (wolf), then I am going to assume the votes that moved are villager votes. If Thomkal is a wolf, which I have no idea if he is, then we really have no data, the vote was wolf vs. wolf.

Thomkal is probably #1 on my lynch list right now, to be honest. If someone used a night power to find out info about him, would be a pretty good reveal, but otherwise, that's where my preliminary vote is looking to be.

Once Ardent turned up as a wolf, the first place that I was going to start looking for the next wolf was Cronin. Its not unheard of for him to throw a vote on a fellow wolf early when it doesn't matter.. and in Ardent's case he was kind of caught holding the bag without being able to move his vote.
I'm not really sold on this just yet, but the way he is pushing on Thomkal helps me feel stronger to vote for Cronin today. This isn't any more than a gut feeling though, and probably one that isn't any better than the gut feeling I had on Ardent..

It's possible that people just said how they would like the deaths to happen, I remember that was the case in the last game.
It makes the most sense that each of these kills was done by the company, but the lack of a sylar sighting (or known sylar killing, at least) is on the one hand good for us, but slightly disturbing. Maybe sylar kills people during the day? I guess we'll find out eventually.

I think it is different depending on whom does the kill for the company. The first night the bullet still seems to lead me to think that HRG is company in this game and he did the kill..
Stiff as a board, I'm trying to play through in my mind who that could be. Doesn't sound like Sylar though. I'm wondering if its Bob's ability to transmutate that killed Olie.

No, it's a good gut feeling. That's common wolf behavior, putting a vote on a wolf so that later in the game there's less suspicion on you.

Thomkal's only message before the lynch:
sorry I've been away from the computer. I cannot support a move to no lynch despite who it might save, myself included because I strongly believe we need some information from this lynch. I could move to Ardent I suppose if there's enough votes, but not a no lynch
Jackal then moved his vote.
Then I moved my vote.
Then deadline...
And then, this message from Thomkal at 1:01, which means he's probably been paying attention to the thread.

I didn't say I "scanned" them.. just to make it clear, I haven't described my action.. I chose to use it (whatever it is) on someone and got a viagra add as a PM.. that really threw me for a loop.. Which is why I am wondering if someone just blocked me is all.

Right, right. Didn't mean to finger your role or anything, clearly you haven't revealed much about it. So it's a case of, either you got blocked by a random person who might've thought you were a wolf (or someone in the company can block night actions), or the person you used your ability on has some sort of deflection mechanism. Interesting dilemma.

OK, so thoughts on Ardent - when he said he had a passive power I was trying to guess what kind of power that might be. Well, I've got a passive power as well as The Cheerleader (yay, team!), Claire Bennet. So I thought that Ardent might have Adam Monroe and have the same power that I've got.
Additionally, I have a secondary power and that is to search for Noah Bennet. If I find him then I'll be able to send PMs to him. I've checked two people so far and haven't located him. Many of my theories on who has what role have already been proven wrong (Adam Monroe, Noah, Mohinder are three that leap to mind right away).
I'm fine with revealing what people I've scanned that aren't Noah, but that also might be a nice ace in the hole if someone fake reveals.
Also, Claude was with the Company in the show (he left eventually) and was with the Company in this game. Then again, would you say that the Haitian was with the Company (he also left)? We've got a small sample set of roles/sides up to this point, but I'm not totally sold on the idea that faction is unrelated to name despite the comments in the rules suggesting otherwise.

Technically Claude was with the company far before the show's present time. He left the company before Noah Bennet did. Hoops, I am interested in your thoughts regarding Noah whom you are looking for. My speculation so far has been based on the gun killing of Ntn, he was responsible for that kill and thus company in this game..
If you are actively looking for him, would that tell you that Noah is definitly not company, or do you have some doubt to whether or not he might be company?
One other piece of information that may or may not be of interest .. Hoopsguy was the person I tried to use an action on last night.. So if his reveal is true, I don't see any power that he mentioned that would have blocked me, and thus someone else must have blocked me.

Okay finally able to post after having two power outages in the last hour. I have an excuse for my not posting to save Jackal, but I'm sure it will seem lame to many. I am on a 56k modem here, and when I posted five minutes before deadline, I was catching up on posts, and then I was refreshing the screen.
I saw the move to Ardent with 2 minutes left, but because likely everybody else was refreshing, my connection crawled and I missed the deadline just as I was going to change my vote to Ardent. That's why I apologized to Jackal, because I wasn't able to move my vote in time. Lame I know but there it is.
Please note that I said I would move to Ardent, something I would clearly not do if I was a wolf with a clear lead on other non-wolves as it looks like Neon and Jackal are now. I also said I would not vote for Neon, who did move his vote to Ardent. I also said I would not vote no lynch not even to save myself, when I should have been all for the non-lynch vote if I was a wolf.
I'm certain someone scanned me last night given how much the focus was on me, and will come forward if they find out I work for the Company and/or Sylar.

Yeah, I was wondering if I was the "blonde woman" in question. Could have been Nikki as well or maybe Elle.
Also, since there was only one kill last night I'm wondering if Ardent was marked as the killer for the Company and the kill was by Sylar. I would have expected Sylar kills to include some head-opening, but I'm having a hard time believing he is just chilling on the sidelines. And Ardent would make a ton of sense as the killer since he is not able to be followed.
Re: Noah Bennet - I don't learn any kind of faction info on HRG or the people I follow. Just whether or not they are Noah Bennet (aka Dad) Obviously, the fact that I can search for him makes me pretty sure he is in the game. Or else the moderator is having fun messing with me.

Let me add that the stated reason people were anti-ardent turned out to be 100% truthful.

But enough meta whining. I agree that later voters on Ardent should be more trusted.

I'm not entirely sure I follow here. I thought the majority of the people who voted for Ardent had reasons for it (even if in the case of The Jackal / Neon it was to save themselves). Without knowing who switched Hoops' vote, I guess we can't say the reasons for that at least.

Dola,
I think it might actually be worthwhile to see who brought up the whole "Ardent isn't around" as a reason not to vote for him when the run on Neon occured. If anything is metagame, that is a metagame method to try to save Ardent. I'll go back and look to see who actually started that in an effort to save ardent without appearing to try.

my vote was not for any meta-game reason at all. he fouled up on his "power/ability" and I picked up on it.
if someone else's was because he wasn't here I don't know, but I openly stated my suspicision of his statement just after he made it.

See. I told you a no lynch vote was the way to go. :D
That's a pretty spiffy result. Well done everyone. I realise people are going to be suspicious of me after all this so fire any concerns/questions you have at me and, erm, I'll answer them tomorrow. If I can. I don't really have time to go through closely and think about all this stuff now anyway.
