If you hot route a LB to the flat, will that LB pick up the screen aggressively? Is there any other hot zone assignment that will increase the presence in the flat on that play?

The flat hot zone is your best option.

Alternatively, if your LB has good speed/agility, you can just assign him to man up on the running back.

Also, depending on how many LBs you have on the field, you can hot-route one or two of your DEs into the flats as well.

I play a buc cover 2 out of the 3-4 defense. I hotzone my mlb to play the middle third of the field. Works fine for me. I notice lbs with pass coverage take more effective drops.
