Lou Groza and other Iron Men

I played someone the other night that had Lou Groza the kicker at left guard.

I knew there were players in the game that had played several different positions.

I had traded in my kicker Stenerud in for Bakken. His straight quick kicking style and his clutchness allowed me to kick field goals and extra points without always getting blocked by glitchers.

However I wanted Groza for his Stamina ability instead since he also has the quick kick straight ahead style.

Anyway back to my point, I played someone using Groza and he had him lined up as guard. Anyway I ended up adding him to my squad and like I always do I look up players stats to see what area are they best suited for and also just to see general info about the guy, even if I have seen him play.

With Groza I had no idea of how good of a player he was (he played in the 40's to 60's, 21 seasons). I found out he was an All Pro at Left Tackle and at Kicker.

So I put him at Left Tackle and he is easily the best left tackle I have seen at that position in the game. He is fast, holds his own on blocks with running plays, pass protects extremely well and is very consistent.

I also have center Bill Curry on my team and he also played Linebacker but not to my knowledge has he ever been good at LB as he was a Center like Groza was at Tackle and Kicker.

Infact Groza should be a silver or a Gold. He was MVP for a season and was great at 2 positions.

I believe Pete Pihos played defense as well (linebacker or safety). Also one of the Gold QB's (Baugh or Otto Graham) played defense back in the day. So did Chuck Noll. I don't know the whole list of players, those are the only one's I know off the top of my head.

The thing is do they play their other positions well in the game. Would like to see if they all do. I know for sure Groza can play left tackle.

Re: Lou Groza and other Iron Men

I did some research on this as well by looking at profootballreference.com, and I think it's totally fine to use guys where they played irl if they can execute in the game. Lenny Moore played WR and RB. One OL was also a really good goal line DT, but I can't remember whom. Great topic! I'm currently compiling an excel spreadsheet of all the players in the game and what positions they played. If someone beats me to this, more power to 'em.

Re: Lou Groza and other Iron Men

Yup, you just have to manipulate it through the substitution screen. It's like if you want Tasker on special teams you have to make him your 3rd receiver and then go sub him back in as first receiver in the formation subs screens. I'm pretty sure this works for all positions.

The Groza at tackle is awesome! Again, another level of depth in this game, as Yamabushi says. Franchise what? Real NFL players what?
