Any reason to choose "Sack Master"?

I usually control a defensive end to put pressure on my opponent's QB. I play as an all created team, where you really have to spend your abilities wisely (3 max for gold, 2 max silver, 1 max bronze).

Seriously though, does "Sack Master" do anything AT ALL for the guy I'm controlling? With my logic, "sack master" means absolutely nothing if he doesn't have a move (swim, rip, etc) that allows him to
penetrate so that he even has a chance to sack.

Anybody noticed created players aren't allowed to choose the "Swim" ability? All D-line moves are available except that one.

So what do you guys think? I ended up spending my Silver defensive end's abilities on "Club" and "Leadership." Think about it, what if anything does "Sack Master" do for a player you control? Probably nothing if you don't have a move to get through. Even so, if you get through the O-line, it's in your hands whether or not you sack the QB.

Sack Master does nothing to support picking that ability over other key attributes. If you control him I would say whatever your best move is, quick feet and either strength or speed burner.

Sackmaster actually helps your player to zero in on the ball carrier, not just the qb.It is hard to evade a player with sackmaster. It almost magnetized your player to the qb.try it you'll see what I am talking about.Sackmaster makes a HUGE difference.

I personally like this ability on defensive linemen. It seems to work the best along with pass rush bonus. Deacon Jones just feels like a sack master when you use him. The guy really tests your internal clock because on some plays he beats his man within seconds!

Re: Any reason to choose "Sack Master"?

Pass rush bonus: Get into the backfield, and induce inaccurate, hurried throws by the QB. The sack is icing on the cake.

Sack Master: Get the QB

This is why you see pass rush bonus LBs and DL's occasionally run right by the QB.

You see this less often with Reggie White, Deacon Jones, and Derek Thomas.

Unless the QB has clutch of course, then you'll see them do the same foolishness.

Yes but he is manually controlling him. If left alone than Sack Master would be attribute to consider but since he is manually using him as he said than there is no need for it. He needs a player who physical attributes will help him manually.

I see no problem with Elvin Bethea, Dan Hampton and others getting to the QB and neither have Sack Master.

Re: Any reason to choose "Sack Master"?

I also want to add that I belive Sack Master & Pass Rush Bonus aid your defense overall. Seems that when a pass rusher with either or both of those attributes gets pressure on the QB it will either force errant passes or enable your defense to come up with INTs. I've seen it time and time again when my Gold DT would put the pressure on a QB and then my 3 Bronze secondary (all of whom with Quick Feet as their only Ability) would make a play on the ball.

In all, though, when controlling a pass rusher, having pass rush moves seems to far outweigh the benefit of Sack Master or Pass Rush Bonus but that is only if you can consistantly hit the QB. If you can't seem to get to him, having those Abilities really helps to effect the QB in someway.

Re: Any reason to choose "Sack Master"?

Sack Master helps with two things:

1) Sack Masters don't stumble coming out of blocks and will instead take a direct beeline to the QB.

2) When getting to the QB, Sack Masters have a better chance of making the tackle instead of getting shrugged off.

Neither of these are all that helpful if you're controlling the guy yourself.

Load up on moves and physical attributes if you want to play the DE manually.
