First Trade In Epstein Era is Big One, White to Marlins for Sanchez
MONTREAL, Ont. - Moves for the Expos were inevitable and at 26 years old Rondell White was always going to be one of the best trade chips the Expos had. Epstein wasted no time in the early hours of July as he would send Rondell White to the Florida Marlins for young 23 year old starting pitcher Jesus Sanchez and prospects OF Quincy Foster, LHP Brent Billingsley, and 2B Luis Garcia.
Rondell White was hitting well this year but was not slugging at the same rate as the past couple years with only 5 home runs through 83 games. Epstein decided to strike while the iron was still hot and got a pretty good haul.
Jesus Sanchez struggled to start the year but was May's NL Rookie of the Month and has been great his last two starts. He's 7-3 with a 5.50 ERA but that ERA is inflated from his bad starts, but when he's good, he's great. The Expos hope he can turn into a premier pitcher for them.
Foster, Billingsley, and Garcia are also all 23 years old but they have stayed in the farm system in Florida and the Expos hope they can hit some of their potentials.
The fans were not happy from this trade but I think it was inevitable and they have a future they can look forward to in Montreal. I believe Epstein is far from done moving pieces.
