New York Yankees News


- The Yankees announced before the season that Xavier Nady was going to have his second surgery this season and will be out for the rest of the season.

- To replace Xavier Nady, the Yankees acquired Eric Hinske in a trade and he will help the bench out a lot. Angel Berroa was also put on designated for assignment.

- Phil Hughes after Yankees slaughtering 14-2 win against the Royals spoke out about his position with the Yankees. "I don't think this position, being in the bullpen, is the right thing for me. If I'm gonna be on this team, I should be a starter." Hughes commented. The Yankees have not commented on the subject.

Yanks comeback gets crushed, Burrell's homerun leads to Rays victory, 7-6

St. Petersburg, FL - Pat Burrell might of just become a Yankee killer. Pat Burrell's 2-run homerun in the 8th inning was the go-ahead homerun for the Rays after the Yankees came back after a 5-0 deficit. The scoring started in the 2nd inning when Gabe Gross blasted a grand-slam to right field to give the Rays a early 4-0 lead. The Rays added another run in the 5th and had a 5-0 lead going into the 7th inning. That's where New York's comeback started. Yankees added one in the 7th off David Price and then Jorge Posada's 2-run homerun made it 5-3. Then in the 8th, Mark Teixiera hit a homerun that cut the lead to 5-4, and then Hideki Matsui gave the Yanks the lead with a 2-run homerun. But in the bottom of the 8th, Pat Burrell blasted one to left and gave the Rays the lead. Randy Choate, former Yankee, came in the 9th and closed it out for the Rays to give them game one. The Yankees will try to snap back tomorrow and even the series.

Yanks rock Shields, even series at 1

St. Petersburg, FL - Tonight at Tropicana Field, The Yankees blew out the Tampa Bay Rays 12-3. It was a night that james Shields would want to forget for a long time. The scoring started right awya in the top of the 1st with RBI doubles from Teixera and A-Rod to make it 2-0. Then Cano signled home A-Rod to make it a 3-0 lead after 1. Then in the 2nd, Nick Swisher connected for his first homerun of the season to extend the lead to 4-0. Then in the 3rd, Jorge Posada belted a huge grand slam that put the game out of reach, making it 8-0. The Yanks and Rays both added a run and then in the 8th, Robby Cano blew the game open with a 3 RBI double that sealed the deal for the Yankees. The Rays added two more in the 8th but that was all as the lost by a huge amount, 12-3. Mark Teixera also hit his 1000th hit today, congrats to Mark. The Yankees will try to take the series tomorrow night and then move onto new Yankee Stadium for a 4-game series with the Indians.
