Bautista traded to Red Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays have traded LF Jose Bautista to the Boston Red Sox for 1B Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo, a 21 years old left-handed batter, is one of the best defensive infielder in today's game. He was hitting .298 on the year, with 3 homeruns and 19 runs batted in for the Red Sox AA affiliate Portland Seadogs.

Rizzo made the Baseball America's list of top 100 prospects entering this year. "We have no doubt in our minds that Anthony will play a major role in this organization future. Right now he's our future 1B when he's ready to take over for Lyle or Randy. It's a blessing to have him in our organization," Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said.

SCOUTING REPORT: Tough-as-nails first baseman with an excellent build. Solid overall approach at the plate, good eye, quick bat speed, impressive timing. Gap power to all fields. An excellent defender with a solid arm and surprising lateral quickness for his size. Outstanding instincts and fundamentals. Said to be a leader by example and a great teammate. Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in May 2008. After receiving chemo-therapy during 2008, he was declared cancer-free in November 2008.

BLUE JAYS SIGNS JERMAINE DYE

Three-hundred homeruns, 1000 runs batted in, those are the numbers newly acquired Jays outfielder will be chasing in the next few weeks. The 35 year old veteran outfielder signed a 2 years, $26 million contract with Jays yesterday morning. Dye finished the 2008 season with a .292 batting average while slugging 34 homeruns and knocking in 96 runs, all of those All Star numbers.

"I was surprised when the White Sox decided to let me go. Especially after what we did together in 2005 and my numbers from last year weren't bad either. But it's all good and I'm very happy to be here in Toronto," a smiling Dye saide before he posed with his new head coach and general manager for photos.

It doesn't take a genious or scientist to figure out this team needed quick help after the recent performances this year. "We needed a true right fielder and that is exactly who we got in Jermaine Dye. He is an All Star caliber player, a five tool outfielder. He may not show it alot now but he has pretty decent speed out there. There is no doubting his power or fielding ability. He is just the power we need in the middle of our lineup. He will help this team a lot. He was excited when he got here this morning and I'm just as excited to have him here," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said to the press.

Dye will jump right in and take over the day-to-day duties in rightfield. He is one the best outfielders in the league today. With Dye at rightfield and Wells playing centerfield, the Jays pitchers now have two gold gloves outfielder and Travis Snider at leftfield, who is no slouch either. His power and discipline at the plate are just a couple of things he has to offer to this team. He is a team leader, a role model for youngsters.
