Tampa Bay Nabs Kansas Player of the Year in First Round

Michael Blake / ESPN.com

Tampa, Florida -- If the Rays had a message to send in this year's MLB draft it's that they have no plans to change their approach to winning in the AL East anytime soon.

Not touted by many to be the power hitter that his father was, Peyton Dean was selected with the sixth overall choice by the Rays in today's draft. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies, Dean passed up the opportunity and enrolled in Wichita State -- but the story didn't end there.

"I had some growing up to do and still do," added Peyton Dean. "I took a step back and realized I wanted to pursue my dream of being a big leaguer -- and do it with maximum effort."

The son of the former Yankees star who died in a tragic accident when Peyton was a child, was the Kansas state player of the year during his senior season. While many will rush to compare the younger Dean to his father, his game draws as many differences as parallels.

Peyton lacks the raw power, but totes an excellent eye and strong hands at the plate. His speed is another asset the Rays hope to utilize as well as his glove and arm out in center field, but it's his intangibles that really impressed the organization.

"We knew some other teams had their radar on him and we didn't want to let him slip. He's a future leader in our books...the intangibles and potential are what we see. He really fits into our small-ball philosophy," stated a Tampa Bay executive who wished to remain annonymous.

Early reports are that Dean will join the Montgomery Biscuits as soon as Monday where he is slated to start immediately in center field for the Rays' double-A affiliate.

Definitely. All the reviews for it are spot-on. The software is phenomenal as well and they are always adding on with updates to download. Everything I can say about it is in reviews, so I would recommend just reading a few of them. The customization with it is incredible and it comes with adapters so you can use any system from HDMI down to component. Keep in mind you won't be able to use your computer as a screen to play because there is a delay, but the video and audio passes through the device to your tv. I absolutely love it so far.

Thanks. I've played the show since 08 and never had a RTTS player in the Rays organization at any time. I'm looking forward to something fresh.

Glad you're following. I'll be sure to check out some of your dynasties as well.
