Re: Down To Business | A Toronto Blue Jays Franchise

GAME THIRTEEN RESULTS

...
ATLANTA BRAVES (3-8)
VS
TORONTO BLUE JAYS (7-5)

BAUTISTA WILLS JAYS TO SERIES WIN
A FIRST INNING 3 RUN HOMER WAS ALL THE JAYS NEEDED IN SERIES FINALE

TORONTO, ON (AP) - Pompey continues to lead the Jays in terms of getting on base and continues to have an absolutely brilliant start to this young season. Donaldson was able to get a walk and hit in today's game and score a run in his return to the lineup. Bautista's first inning homer was his second of the series and was the game winner in the game as the Jays could not get anything else going after that. Osuna continues to impress out of the bullpen as he pitched another scoreless inning in the game. Brett Cecil has been perfect so far in save situations since taking over for Miguel Castro earlier in the season.

QUICK HITS
  • The Jays hope to have Reyes back in the lineup Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, a day off should be enough to let Reyes fully heal
  • After a slow start with the bat both Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista are starting to hit the ball, Donaldson however is still looking for his first homer in a Jays uniform
  • Buehrle was impressive in his start after leaving his last with a bruise on his leg going 7 strong and allowing only a single hit
  • Defense at first base was an issue this game as Valencia let one ball past him that was ruled a hit and committed an error in the top of the 9th to let the first hitter on board
  • Cecil loaded the bases with only 1 out in the top of the 9th but then got a strikeout and pop out to end the threat and pick up his 3rd save of the season

Really enjoying your presentation! Pompey is a starter? He seemed to play well when I played with him!

Thanks, always glad to hear folks like the presentation! And yeah Pompey is a starter for now anyways its a long season and we will see what ends up happening further into the season but he has been probably my most consistent hitter to this point.

JAYS REPORT
FOR APRIL 6-19 - WRITTEN BY: MARCUS THOMPSON

TORONTO, ON (AP) - We are a quick two weeks into the season already and the Blue Jays are off to a good start sitting in second place in the division with 9 games against division rivals coming up. The Jays will be looking to wrap up their home stand with a winning record as well against Baltimore, they are currently 5-2 at home this season. Now let us take a bit of a deeper look at what the Jays have been doing to start the season...

THE OFFENSIVE DIVIDE
When it comes to the offense the Jays are kind of all over the place when it comes to hitting. They rank 27th in average with only Atlanta, Minnesota and Kansas City doing worse to start off the season. Yet they are tied for 5th in home runs and and in the middle of the pack at 18th in RBI. If the Jays could just get more men on the base paths and get better hitting from their lineup that RBI total would be sure to move up. Right now though as it stands if they continue to hit for the average that this do wins will not continue to keep coming for them as they also strikeout more then any team in baseball. As of right now oddly enough their pitching has been what has kept them in most games.

BULLPEN ESCAPADES
To put it mildly, the bullpen has been a pretty good adventure to start the season off with a lot of great play and some very average to below average play. Castro started the season as the closer but was quickly relieved of the position after blowing a couple of saves for the team. Since then Cecil has taken over and has done an excellent job in closing out games, though he to has run into some problems along the way. Delabar started the season in the minors but upon his promotion he has already been used twice and both times shut the door on the opposition.

STARTERS HOT TO START
The starters have been solid so far through the season though need to get deeper into games, Stroman is right now the only one on the block in terms of maybe getting demoted into the bullpen however his next start goes a long way in deciding that. Hutchison and Sanchez both have pitched very good, though both need to work on their stamina and start to get deeper into games. Buehrle and Dickey have been the work horses so far, though that is little surprise to most in the organization.

INJURY BUG BITES EARLY
No one thought for a second Justin Smoak would become a home run leader on this team or bat .300 in a season. He was brought in and being used primarily for his defense and boy oh boy was he ever good and now that he is lost for the season the difference is obvious. Smoak is just one of a few Blue Jays to be bit by the injury bug but will be the only one as of right now to miss the season because of it. Reyes is currently out with a bruised shin but should rejoin the team during the Baltimore series.

THE HOT SEAT TEMPERED RIGHT NOW
Both Alex and John Gibbons are on the hot seat right now, this is a season where it could be a put up or shut up year. If there isn't a large improvement over the previous year one or both may be out the door. Kyle Webb has taken on a lot of the scouting duty since coming aboard and looks like he will factor in big with the draft coming up later in the year. It is very fair to say that if Alex would get removed from his position at any point that Gibbons may not be far behind as whoever might be the next GM would be likely to want his own guy as manager.

SERIES FIVE PREVIEW
BALTIMORE ORIOLES (9-4)
VS
TORONTO BLUE JAYS (8-5)

PITCHING MATCHUPS

SERIES STAT COMPARISON

QUICK HITS
  • Aaron Sanchez was the only starter in the previous series to not get a loss against Baltimore, Hutchison and Stroman both were roughed up in their starts
  • The Jays offensively managed just 5 runs previously against the Orioles, the Jays once again will face Norris and Tillman
  • Jose Reyes will miss at least the first game of the series while he continues to recover from a bruised shin
  • Josh Donaldson will look to get on track finally this season in the final series before going on the road for 10 games
  • The Jays have been shopping around the league for a possible defensive replacement at first base but no serious conversations have taken place yet
