Re: Started From The Bottom | Pittsburgh Pirates 2005 (MVP Baseball 05)

Bucs Make Swap for Second Baseman

PITTSBURGH -- Discussions lasted late into the night between the Pirates and San Francisco Giants over the fate of second baseman Ray Durham.

Shortly after midnight, the two teams agreed to a trade: the Giants would send Durham to Pittsburgh, with recently-acquired pitcher Eric DuBose heading to California.

"We knew the Giants were shopping him for a while, and it seemed like a good way to improve our team," the Pirates' general manager said. "It's a pain that we had to get rid of Eric [DuBose] for him, but, like I said, our team is now better as a result."

Durham, now 33 years of age, has batted a .279 with 139 home runs during his 10-year MLB career. This season, he was supplanted in the Giants' lineup and, in 12 games, has hit .259/.412/.481 with a wOBA of .362. He will likely see the majority of action at second in the Pirates' lineup.

In a related transaction, the Pirates sent infielder Rob Mackowiak to AAA Indianapolis, recalling pitcher John Van Benschoten. Van Benshchoten has been tremendous in a short minor-league stint, throwing for a 1.16 ERA in two starts.

Really have to commend you for the depth of reporting here because IIRC MVP 05 doesn't have all of the advanced metrics. Bravo.

Also, definitely following.

Thank you! Yeah, they didn't have the advanced metrics but none of them (beyond wRC+) are that hard to calculate with Excel. Unfortunately, even if the game did have accurate statistics compared to real-life 2015, the numbers are off as it also doesn't track GIDP. But, for a now 14-year-old baseball dynasty, it's close enough.

Unfortunately, the Pirates' injury woes continue as Jeff D'Amico "lightly" tore his PCL sliding into second. He will be out for 10 days.
