      MARCH 29-31: ARIZONA (0-4) @ LOS ANGELES (4-0)

      March 28: Dodgers 3, DBacks 2
      March 29: Dodgers 2, DBacks 1 (10)
      March 30: Dodgers 6, Dbacks 0
      March 31: Dodgers 4, Dbacks 0

The Arizona Diamondbacks opened up the 2019 season with a tough 3-2 loss to rival Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium. Walker Buehler (1-0) earned the victory for the Dodgers, going 6 2/3 innings and striking out ten, while allowing just one run on three hits.

Chris Taylor had the big blow offensively for the Dodgers, hitting a two-run home run off of Zack Greinke in the third. Corey Seager added an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to add a big insurance run.

Dylan Floro came on with two outs in the ninth in relief of Kenley Jansen and got Steve Souza Jr to strike out with the bases loaded to end the game and earn his first career save.

Eduardo Escobar drove in both Arizona runs with RBI doubles in the seventh and ninth innings. His RBI double in the ninth just missed being a game tying home run as the ball hit high off of the wall in left.

Former Diamondback A.J. Pollock broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the tenth with a walk-off solo home run off of Greg Holland as the Dodgers took game two, 2-1 at Dodger Stadium.

Scott Alexander picked up the win in relief for the Dodgers, working two scoreless innings. A.J. Pollack went 3 for 5 with a double to go along with his game winning home run.

Greg Holland took the loss for Arizona. Robbie Ray worked five innings, allowing one run on just four hits. Kenta Maeda went five innings for the Dodgers, allowing a single run on six hits.

Rod Stripling allowed just one hit in six innings and the Dodgers used the long ball to defeat the Dbacks 6-0 on Saturday evening. Joc Pederson homered twice, Corey Seager homered and A.J. Pollock went 4 for 4 with an RBI in the victory.

Zack Godley struggled, allowing three runs, all solo home runs, on seven hits in five innings of work.

Note: Jarrod Dyson left the game in the seventh inning after fracturing his right arm diving for a fly ball. Ildemaro Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Reno to replace Dyson.

The Dodgers completed the opening series sweep on Sunday afternoon behind a two-hit shutout from Hyun-Jin Ryu. He struck out nine and got all the run support that he would need in the fourth as Cody Bellinger launched a two-run home run off of Luke Weaver. Bellinger went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and home run, and he drove in three of the Dodgers four runs.

Luke Weaver pitched well in the loss, allowing just the three runs on eight hits over seven innings of work.

Arizona (0-4) will now head down to San Diego (1-3) for three games to conclude their opening road trip.

        APRIL 1-3: ARIZONA (0-7) @ SAN DIEGO (4-3)

        April 1: Padres 3, DBacks 2
        April 2: Padres 7, Dbacks 4
        April 3: Padres 7, DBacks 0

Wil Myers hit a two-run home run off of reliever Yoshihisa Hirano in the bottom of the seventh to put the San Diego Padres in front as they held on for a 3-2 victory over the winless Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona (0-5) finally broke a franchise record 32-inning scoreless streak in the seventh inning when Wilmer Flores doubled to left, scoring Christian Walker. Carson Kelly then lined a two-out single to center to score Flores with the go ahead run.

San Diego (2-3) took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run from Franmil Reyes off of Merrell Kelly, making his major league debut for Arizona. He was sharp, going six innings and allowing just the one run on only two hits. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.

The DBacks woes continued on Tuesday evening as Manuel Margot hit a fifth inning grand slam off of Zack Grienke and the Padres held on for a 7-4 victory to keep the Dbacks winless on the 2019 season.

Matt Stram (1-0) earned the victory for the Padres, lasting only five innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Craig Stammen picked up the save, his third, tight roping out of the ninth after issuing back-to-back two-out walks before he got Steven Souza Jr to fly out to right to end the ballgame.

The Padres completed the sweep on Wednesday afternoon with an easy 7-0 victory behind Joey Lucchesi (1-1). He pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and walking three. Robbie Ray (0-1) lasted just four innings, allowing six earned runs. He walked three and struck out four.

Eric Hosmer did the damage offensively. He had a bases clearing double to key a five run second inning. He went 3 for 4 with that double and four RBIs.

The winless DBacks (0-7) will come home for their home opener on Friday afternoon as they will host the defending World Champion Boston Red Sox.

          APRIL 5-7: BOSTON (7-4) @ ARIZONA (1-9)

          April 5: Red Sox 9, DBacks 4
          April 6: Dbacks 7, Red Sox 6 (10)
          April 7: Red Sox 7, DBacks 2

J.D. Martinez put on a show for the DBacks home opener in his return to Chase Field. He homered three times, including a second inning grand slam, and drove in seven as the Red Sox kept the Dbacks winless with a 9-4 victory. Martinez leads the majors with seven home runs already through nine games.

Wilmer Flores went 3 for 4 with a double and he drove in two in the loss.

Eduardo Rodriguez (1-1) picked up the win for Boston. He pitched eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. He struck out three and walked none.

Taijuan Walker (0-1) made his 2019 debut for Arizona and it was forgettable. He lasted just five innings, surrendering eight earned run son nine hits. He walked one and did not record a strikout.

Besides being winless through eight games, the DBacks also have not hit a home run yet this season. The Dbacks are last in baseball with a (.184) batting average, last in runs (13), and 28th in ERA at (5.54).

The Dbacks finally broke through on Saturday evening, notching their first win of 2019, but not without some drama. Adam Jones lined a one-out double to center in the bottom of the tenth to score David Peralta from first to send the Chase Field crowd home happy, and remove the monkey off of the DBacks collective backs.

It wasn't easy though as Archie Bradley blew a two-run ninth inning lead, allowing the Red Sox to score four times on five hits to take a 6-4 lead.

Steve Souza Jr then hit a two-out, two-run pinch hit single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the ballgame. It was the DBacks fourth consecutive hit with two outs off of Red Sox closer Matt Barnes.

The Dbacks (1-8) hit three home runs in the game. One from David Peralta in the first and two from Jake Lamb. All were solo shots and they were the first three home runs for Arizona in 2019.

In the finale, it was once again the J.D. Martinez show as he thoroughly enjoyed his return to the Valley of the Sun. Sunday afternoon he went 3 for 5 with three doubles and drove in four to seal a series win for the Red Sox as they won 7-2. Martinez drove in 11 runs in the three game series.

Chris Sale (2-1) picked up the win for Boston. He had a shaky first inning, allowing two runs on four hits, then settled in and scattered four hits over the next seven innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Luke Weaver (0-2) took the loss for Arizona. He went just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. Matt Koch and Matt Andriese worked the final 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen and allowed only one run on three hits.

Arizona (1-9) has an off day tomorrow before starting a two game series at Chase Field against the Texas Rangers (6-4), who lead the AL West.

              April 9: DBacks 8, Rangers 1
              April 10: Rangers 4, Dbacks 3 (13)

The Arizona Diamondbacks played their best game of 2019 so far on Tuesday evening as they routed the Texas Rangers 8-1 at Chase Field. Zack Greinke (1-2) picked up his first win on the season, going seven innings and allowing just one run on four hits.

Wilmer Flores (1) and Edgar Escobar (1) hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh to pace the offense. Escobar wenmt 3 for 4 with two doubles and the homer. He also drove in three.

Yoshihiro Hirano and Archie Bradley came on to work the final two scoreless innings.

The Texas Rangers took the second game in extra innings as Hunter Pence singled home Logan Forsythe in the top of the thirteen inning. The Dbacks had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth on a pinch hit solo home run from Alex Avila.

Arizona (2-10) had a runner reach third in the 10th, 11th and 13th innings, but could not push a run across and finished the game 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

They will now host the San Diego Padres (10-3), winners of nine straight, for a four game weekend series to close out the opening home stand.

Eduardo Escobar has been one of the few bright spots for Arizona in 2019.

                    April 14: DBacks 3, Padres 1

The Arizona Diamondbacks jumped all over Eric Lauer, scoring eight runs in the first two innings, as they cruised to a 9-5 victory over the San Diego Padres, ending their nine game winning streak. Eduardo Escobar continued his torrid play as of late, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs to pace the offense. His average is up to .388.

Zack Godley (1-1) worked 6 2/3 innings to pick up his first win on the season. He allowed five runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking none.

Arizona had a season high 14 hits in the ballgame.

The Diamondbacks took game two 4-2 behind a solid pitching performance from Taijuan Walker. He went seven innings, allowing just two runs on a two run home run from Franmil Reyes in the seventh.

Eduardo Escobar continued his red hot April, going 2 for 4 with a double and RBI. David Peralta added a double and scored two runs from the leadoff spot in the lineup.

Andrew Chafin was called upon to close the game out in the ninth and sent down the Padres in order to record his first save.

The Padres bounced back on Saturday evening as they jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 7-4 victory. Wil Myers homered twice, both solo shots, and went 2 for 5 to help the Padres end their two game skid.

Matt Strahm improved to (3-0) on the season, going five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Fernando Tatis Jr had a big night, going 4 for 6 with a double and two RBIs.

Wilmer Flores drove in two for Arizona in the loss. Luke Weaver fell to (0-3) and saw his ERA rise to 7.98 as he allowed six runs (four earned) in just four plus innings of work.

Zack Greinke pitched a gem on Sunday afternoon as the DBacks took the series finale 3-1 to take three out of four from the red-hot Padres. Greinke (2-2) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Matt Andriese worked the final two innings to pick up the save, his first on the year.

Katel Marte, Wilmer Flores and Blake Swihart each picked up two hits in the victory.

Arizona (5-11) went (5-4) on the home stand after starting the year by losing their first seven on the road. Up next is a three game series in Atlanta (7-9) followed by a weekend series in Chicago against the Cubs (6-9), then a four game set at Pittsburgh (5-10) to close out the ten game trip.

                      APRIL 16-18: ARIZONA (6-13) @ ATLANTA (9-10)

                      April 16: Braves 7, DBacks 1
                      April 17: Braves 4, DBacks 3 (10)
                      April 18: DBacks 8, Braves 6

The Atlanta Braves scored four times in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 at SunTrust Park in suburban Atlanta on Tuesday evening. Ozzie Albes went 3 for 4 with a double and drove in a run to help pace the Braves.

Archie Bradley was once again awful Archie as he gave up four runs on just three hits in 2/3 of an inning in the bottom of the eighth. He came on with the DBacks only down two and left the game with them down six. His ERA has ballooned to 11.37.

Julio Teheran (1-1) won for the first time in 2019, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run, while scattering nine hits. Former DBack Dansby Swanson homered and drove in three runs for the Braves.

The DBacks bullpen blew another one on Wednesday evening as they gave up runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie it, and one in the tenth to lose it as the Braves escaped with a 4-3 victory. Brian McCann singled one into the right field corner with two outs in the tenth to score Josh Donaldson with the game winning run.

Eduardo Escobar, mired in a bit of a slump, thought that he had a game winning double in the top of the ninth, driving in Katel Marte and David Peralta to give Arizona a 3-2 lead off of Braves closer Daniel Winkler. But Andrew Chafin was the latest gas can to blow come in out of the bullpen. He gave up back-to-back singles to open the inning, and Nick Markakis hit a one-out sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to score Dansby Swanson to tie the ball game.

Josh Donalson went 4 for 5 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Braves offense.

Matt Andriese took the loss, falling to (0-2). Starter Zack Godley went five innings, and scattered seven hits, allowing just one run.

The DBacks managed to score five runs in the top of the ninth on Thursday afternoon to avoid the sweep in Atlanta, rallying for an 8-6 victory. The big blow came on a Wilmer Flores two-run double put the DBacks in front.

Carson Kelly went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in the win.

Brian McCann went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and four RBIs in the loss for the Braves.

Gregg Holland picked up the win out of the bullpen, with Andrew Chafin picking up the save, his second.

Arizona now heads to Chicago for a three game weekend series against the struggling Cubs.

                        April 19: Cubs 11, DBacks 6
                        April 20: DBacks 6, Cubs 1
                        April 21: DBacks 7. Cubs 5

The Chicago Cubs fell behind 6-0 at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon in the midst of a six-game losing streak, then rallied to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-6 to stun the DBacks and put an end to their losing streak. Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run home run to put the Cubs ahead in the fifth inning as he went 2 for 5 and drove in four runs for the Cubs.

Neither starter was very good, but Merrill Kelly had a six run lead in the middle of the fourth and couldn’t hold on. His defense did him no favors though, as they committed a season high four errors behind him. Eduardo Escobar committed three of them and Katel Marte, making the start at second base, made the other one.

Adam Jones got the start in right and went 3 for 5 with a three-run home run. He drove in four in the loss.

In game two, it was the Zack Greinke show as he shut down the Cubs offense, picking up his third win, going seven and one third innings, allowing one run on just four hits.

Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run home run in the sixth to key a three run outburst as Arizona cruised to the victory. Wilmer Flores went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI after having yesterday off.

The win was Arizona’s seven on the season and the DBacks are now (7-6) after their disastrous (0-8) start.

Arizona pounded out 17 hits in the finale on Sunday afternoon, scoring four times in the top of the first inning to pace themselves to a 7-5 victory over Chicago. Jake Lamb had a big day, going 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and he drove in four runs.

The DBacks scored four in the top of the first off of Kyle Hendricks all on RBI singles. The Cubs responded in the bottom half with three of their own off of Robbie Ray, as Willson Contreras cleared the bases with a three-run double.

Jake Lamb then hit a two-run bomb in the fourth, his third on the season to put the DBacks up 6-3.

A Kris Bryant two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth brought the Cubs to with a run, but the DBacks bullpen shut them down the rest of the way. Andrew Chafin picked up his third save on the season, throwing one pitch and getting Jason Heyward to bounce into a game ending force out at second.

The DBacks (8-14) now head to Pittsburgh (8-12) for a four game series with the Pirates starting on Monday evening. Zack Godley (1-1, 4.37) is scheduled to go up against Jameson Taillon (2-2, 2.45) in the opener.

                          April 25: DBacks 14, Pirates 1

Jake Lamb continued his hot streak on Monday evening as he hit two home runs and drove in three as the Diamondbacks defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 at PNC Park in downtown Pittsburgh.

Zack Godley (2-1) worked a strong six innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked two. Greg Holland, Archie Bradley and Andrew Chafin closed the game out with Chafin allowing a solo home run in the ninth for Pittsburgh’s only run off of the DBacks pen. Chafin picked up his fourth save on the season.

Jameson Taillon (2-3) took the loss for the Pirates. He gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

The win moved Arizona out of the basement in the National League West for the first time in 2019.

The Pirates evened the series on Tuesday evening as they won it 4-3 in extra innings. Jason Martin scored on a wild pitch from Matt Koch with one out in the eleventh.

Colin Moran hit a big solo home run off of Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Alex Avila hit a solo home run in the second inning off of the foul pole in right.

Katel Marte was thrown out at the plate to end the seventh, on a short fly out to left by Jake Lamb. Adam Jones then got thrown out at the plate to end the eighth on a single back up the middle from Alex Avila.

The Pirates took game three behind a strong pitching performance from Trevor Williams. Williams (1-2) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run (three runs) on just five hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Jung Ho Kang went 3 for 4 with a home run, a three-run shot in the third, and drove in four runs to pace the Pirates offense.

Eduardo Escobar homered for the DBacks in the loss. It was his third on the season. Merrill Kelly (1-2) took the loss for Arizona. He pitched five innings, allowing all five Pirate runs on 11 hits. He struck out one.

The DBacks took the finale on Thursday afternoon as they rolled the Pirates 14-1. Zack Greinke (3-2) tossed seven innings, allowing a run on just four hits, while striking out three. He also added a single, double and RBI.

Nick Ahmed went 2 for 5 with a double, home run (his first) and drove in four runs to pace the offensive explosion. Christian Walker, struggling throughout much of April, went 3 for 4 with his first home run on the season and drove in three runs.

The DBacks exploded for six runs in the fifth innings to break open a 1-0 game. They would add four in the sixth and three more in the eighth as they recorded season highs in runs (14) and hits (21). They also benefited from six walks.

Arizona (10-16) finished the ten game road trip at (5-5) and now returns home to take on the Chicago Cubs (8-16), currently sitting in last place in the National League.
