    Aug 19: DBacks 6, Rockies 4
    Aug 20: Rockies 6, DBacks 3
    Aug 21: DBacks 3, Rockies 1

Arizona continued its hot play, taking two of three from the Rockies to finish the home stand 5-2.

The DBacks took the opener of a three game series with the Rockies on Monday evening 6-4 at Chase Field. Adam Jones hit a two-run double in the third inning, and Eduardo Escobar went 4 for 4 with an RBI double to help the DBacks to their fourth consecutive victory.

Felix Hernandez (8-7) picked up the win, pitching six innings, allowing three run son eight hits. He struck out six and walked two. Archie Bradiey picked up his tenth save despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth.

Mark Reynolds and Nolan Arenado hit solo home runs for the Rockies in the loss.

The Rockies rallied from an early 3-0 deficit on Tuesday evening scoring three late runs to defeat Arizona 6-3. Charlie Blackmon went 3 for 4 with an RBI double and a go ahead solo home run in the eighth inning to help lead Colorado to the victory.

The win snapped a three game skid for Colorado and ended Arizona’s four game winning streak.

Mike Dunn (4-1) picked up the win out of the Rockies bullpen. Wade Davis earned his 30th save on the season working a perfect ninth.

David Peralta went 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs in the loss.

In the finale, it was a strong pitching performance from Robbie Ray as he improved to (12-5) on the season. Ray pitched six plus innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out three. Matt Koch, Adam Liberatore and Archie Bradley finished it out with Bradley earning his 11th save.

RBI doubles from Jake Lamb and Eduardo Escobar helped pace Arizona. Katel Marte scored twice and had two stolen bases.

Arizona (70-58) has tomorrow off, then heads to Milwaukee (57-70) for a three game weekend series followed by a quick two game set in San Francisco (58-69).

      AUGUST 23-25: ARIZONA (71-60) @ MILWAUKEE (59-71)

      Aug 23: DBacks 6, Brewers 5
      Aug 24: Brewers 7, DBacks 0
      Aug 25: Brewers 8, DBacks 7

The DBacks dropped two of three in Milwaukee as the continue to battle to stay in the last National League Wild Card spot. The pitching was not good this weekend and they will have to get better if they want to make it to the post-season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from an early 4-1 hole on Friday night to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 at Miller Park. Wilmer Flores hit a huge two-run single in the eighth to key a three-run rally.

Eduardo Escobar went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in the victory.

Mike Moustakas went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs in the loss for Milwaukee. Travis Shaw also hit a two-run home run off of starter Zach Godley.

Matt Koch (5-7) picked up the win out of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless inning of relief. Archie Bradley picked up his 12th save despite giving up a solo home run to Moustakas in the ninth.

Saturday was a comedy of errors for the DBacks as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the Brewers. Arizona had six men thrown out on the base paths and saw catcher Alex Avila throw two shutout innings, striking out four.

Mike Moustakas went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs. Moustakas has been a beast in this series so far, going 6 for 8 with two doubles, three home runs and six RBIs.

The Brewers blew open a close game in the fifth inning. Marwin Gonzalez hit an RBI double to get it going. Christian Yelich then lined a two-run single and Mike Moustakas capped it off with a two-run bomb to make it 6-0.

Dallas Keuchel (6-5) took the loss, lasting just 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits.

Milwaukee took the finale 8-7 in a wild one at Miller Park. Mike Moustakas RBI double, his third of the game, proved to be the winner in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Moustakas absolutely torched the DBacks pitching staff in the series, going 9 for 13 with five doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs for a Brewers team that is just playing out the string.

Eduardo Escobar homered again for Arizona. It was his 27th on the season.

Feleix Hernandez got a no decision in this one, but he was awful. He allowed six runs on ten hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Yoan Lopez (1-3) took the loss out of the bullpen, allowing one run on three hits in two innings of work.

Taylor Williams (7-6) picked up the win out of the pen for Milwaukee. Jeremy Jeffress earned the save, his 11th, allowing a run on one hit in the ninth.

The DBacks (71-60) will now head to San Francisco (59-71) for a quick two game series with Taijuan Walker getting the start in the opener for the injured Merrill Kelly.

        AUGUST 26-27: ARIZONA (72-61) @ SAN FRANCISCO (60-72)

        Aug 26: DBacks 4, Giants 3 (10)
        Aug 27: Giants 2, DBacks 1 (17)

The DBacks struggled and were actually lucky to gain a split up in the Bay as they split a pair of extra inning games against the long eliminated Giants.

Eduardo Escobar hit a three run home run in the first inning and it looked like the rout might be on. But Madison Bumgarner settled down and pitched a gem.

Yangervis Solarte then answered Escobar’s homer with a three run shot off of reliever Matt Koch in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. Than came moments after a scary scene in which Brandon Crawford hit a line drive off of the head of starter Taijuan Walker. Walker left under his own power but was pulled from the ball game.

The DBacks would forge ahead in the tenth as light hitting catcher Carson Kelly lined a triple to right to score Ildemaro Vargas with the go ahead run. Archie Bradley then came on a pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 13th save. Adam Liberatore (4-1) picked up the win pitching two scoreless innings.

In Tuesday’s finale, the Giants pulled out a 2-1 win in 17 innings in a game that last over five hours. Evan Longoria homered with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth off of Archie Bradley to tie the game. Then Yangervis Solarte came through in the bottom of the 17th with an RBI single just inside the right field line with two-outs, driving home Gerardo Parro with the game winning run.

Ketel Marte went 5 for 7 with two doubles and a run for the DBacks. The rest of the team went 9 for 54 (.167). The DBacks used nine pitchers with Taijuan Walker coming in to finish the game in the 17th inning and taking the loss. Robbie Ray was Magnificent, working 6 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out six and walking two.

Arizona (72-61) will have a much needed off day tomorrow before hosting the Dodgers in a four game series starting Thursday evening at Chase Field.

          AUG 29 – SEPT 1: LOS ANGELES (86-53) @ ARIZONA (76-61)

          Aug 29: DBacks 6, Dodgers 4
          Aug 30: DBacks 8, Dodgers 4
          Aug 31: DBacks 5, Dodgers 3
          Sept 1: DBacks 4, Dodgers 3

The Arizona Diamondbacks sent a message this weekend as they swept a four game series against the National League leading Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field. The four wins moved the DBacks to within nine games of first-place Los Angeles, but more importantly kept them a half game ahead of red-hot Washington in the race for the second National League Wild Card spot.

David Peralta walked it off in the opener as he blasted a three-run home run off of Kenley Jansen with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the DBacks rallied to defeat the Dodgers 6-4. Peralta went 2 for 4 with two home runs. He drove in five of the six Arizona runs.

The Dodgers got home runs from Justin Turner and Corey Seager, but it wasn’t enough, as their bullpen could not hold the lead.

Andrew Chafin picked up the win out of the bullpen for Arizona. He improved to (1-2) as he tossed a perfect ninth. Kenley Jansen (3-2) took the loss for the Dodgers, allowing singles to Eduardo Escobar and Wilmer Flores before giving up the homer to Peralta. It was Jansen’s sixth blown save on the season.

The DBacks walked it off for a second straight night as Nick Ahmed hit a two-run home run in the eighth, then blasted a one-out grand slam in the ninth off of Joe Kelly as the DBacks won 8-4.

The Dodgers built a 4-0 lead in the sixth with Kenta Maeta cruising. Maeta would pitch 7 1/3 innings, allowing just the two runs on three hits. But the Dodgers bullpen would not hold up. Ketel Marte hit a two-run home run off of Dylan Floro in the bottom of the eighth to tie it, then Ahmed hit the grand slam off of Kelly in the ninth to win it.

The DBacks rallied again on Saturday evening, scoring twice in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Dodgers 5-3. Eduardo Escobar singled home David Peralta to give the DBacks the lead after he had hit a one-out triple. Wilmer Flores then tripled home Escobar to give the DBacks a two run cushion.

Andrew Chafin (2-2) picked up the win out of the bullpen, getting five out without allowing a base runner. Archie Bradley got the final out to secure his 14th save.

A.J. Pollock and Cody Bellinger hit solo home runs for the Dodgers, both off of starter Felix Hernandez.

In Sunday afternoon’s finale it was Taijuan Walker who was the story for Arizona. He was one pitch away from a complete game shutout before Joc Pederson ended that with a two-out ninth inning three-run home run. But Archie Bradley came on to get Chris Taylor out to earn his 15th save and seal the series sweep.

David Peralta was white-hot in the series, going 2 for 4 on Sunday with a double, home run and three RBIs. Domingo Santana had a huge RBI double in the bottom of the eighth that at the time gave Arizona a 4-0 lead, but that run proved to be the game winner.

Arizona (76-61) will now host San Diego (62-74) in a three game series with the opener a Monday matinee in celebration of Labor day.

I have picked up MLB 20 and imported this franchise. Retired players and player no longer in MLB were given generic names. Adam Liberatore and Adam Jones were renamed on the DBacks. I ended up changing their names back, but their likeness is all screwed up. Oh well.

                SEPT 2-4: SAN DIEGO (64-75) @ ARIZONA (77-63)

                Sept 2: DBacks 4, Padres 2
                Sept 3: Padres 3, DBacks 2
                Sept 4: Padres 4, DBacks 1

The Arizona Diamondbacks momentum took a hit as they dropped two of three to the last place San Diego Padres at Chase Field.

The DBacks extended their winning streak to five games in a Labor Day matinee as they edged the San Diego Padres 4-2. Robbie Ray (13-5) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. The bullpen was perfect, allowing just one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings with Archie Bradley picking up his 16th save.

Adam Jones (19) and Ryon Healy (20) each hit solo home runs to help lead the DBacks and move them a full game ahead of Washington in the race for the second National League Wild Card spot.

Garrett Richards took the loss for San Diego and fell to (1-9) on the season.

The Padres rallied late on Tuesday evening to pull out a 3-2 victory to put an end to the DBacks five game winning streak. Fernando Tatis Jr singled to left, scoring Manuel Margot with the go ahead run.

Craig Stamman then got Eduardo Escobar to fly out to the warning track in center with Adam Jones on third to end the eighth inning.

In the ninth, closer Kirby Yates walked Tim Locastro to open the inning, but got David Peralta to bounce into a 4-6-3 double play. After walking Jake Lamb, he got Nick Ahmed to fly out to center to end the ball game as he picked up his 30th save.

Notes: Wilmer Flores had to leave the game diving for a ball in the sixth inning. He will need an MRI tomorrow but it looks like to may have torn something in his shoulder and will likely miss the rest of the season. Ryon Healy was hit with a line drive early in the game and left with concussion like symptoms. The club said he will likely miss 1-2 weeks.

In the finale, Connie Pena was the story for San Diego. He tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He also hit a solo home run to help the Padres to a 4-1 victory and a series win.

Former Diamondback Ender Inciarte hit two solo home runs, his seventh and eighth on the season, to lead the Padres offense.

Jake Lamb hit a solo home run in the ninth, his 35th on the season, as the DBacks avoided the shutout.

Kirby Yates came on to get the final two outs to earn his 31st save.

Arizona will now hit the road to take on the first place Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets, currently tied with Arizona for the second National League Wild Card.

Re: RattleON - A DBacks Dynasty Presented by BigJDotCom01

                  SEPT 6-8: ARIZONA (78-65) @ CINCINNATI (82-62)

                  Sept 6: Reds 7, DBacks 5
                  Sept 7: DBacks 7, Reds 1
                  Sept 8: Reds 3, DBacks 2

The DBacks dropped two of three in Cincinnati to open the road trip. This dropped the DBacks out of the Wild Card position heading to New York for a huge series with the Mets.

The Reds rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the opener to defeat the DBacks 7-5 on a rainy Friday evening in downtown Cincinnati.

Arizona hit three home runs in the first inning as they built a 4-0 lead. Ketel Marte, Jake Lamb and David Peralta all hit first inning home runs and it looked like the rout was on. But the Reds responded with four runs of their own off of Felix Hernandez in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 4-4.

Ketel Marte homered in the second, his second of the ball game to put Arizona back in front. Matt Kemp’s RBI single in the fourth would tie the game up at 5-5.

The Reds would then get a bases loaded single from Derek Dietrich in the bottom of the eighth off of Andrew Chafin to go up 7-5. Raisel Iglesius came on to nail down the save, but it wasn’t easy. He gave up deep fly balls to David Peralta and Nick Ahmed with two-men on in the ninth to nail down his 43rd save and send Arizona to their third straight loss.

The DBacks were able to put an end to their three game losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they routed the Reds 7-1. Jake Lamb hit two home runs to lead the way offensively. He hit a three-run bomb in the first, then added a solo home run in the fifth.

Taijuan Walker (9-7) picked up the win. He scattered ten hits over seven innings, but only allowed the one run. He struck out one.

Eduardo Escobar returned to form in this one, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and three runs batted in. He raised his average to .356 on the year. He would lead the National League in hitting, but he doesn’t have enough plate appearances to qualify.

In Sunday’s finale, Alex Wood had the DBacks off balance all day as he tossed six innings and picked up the win. Wood (8-2) allowed five hits and one run, while striking out three and only walking one.

He would get A Yasiel Puig RBI single in the first inning that gave the Reds the lead that they would never give up. Arizona had their chances late but could not tie the ballgame as they dropped to (2-4) over their last six games after winning five straight.

Rabbie Ray (13-6) took the loss despite pitching pretty well. He went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out four.

Up next they head to the Big Apple to face the Mets in a huge Wild Card series. New York (78-64) leads the DBacks by ½ game for the second Wild Card heading into the four game series. The DBacks have only 19 games left. They play their next seven against teams with winning records, then play their last 12 against teams below .500.

                    SEPT 9-12: ARIZONA (80-67) @ NEW YORK (80-66)

                    Sept 9: Mets 4, DBacks 3
                    Sept 10: DBacks 7, Mets 3
                    Sept 11: Mets 3, DBacks 2
                    Sept 12: DBacks 6, Mets 0

The DBacks and Mets spilt a crucial four game mid-week series in Queens, so the Mets remain a half game up on the DBacks in the Wild Card race with 15 games remaining.

The opener was an absolute thriller as the DBacks rallied late from a 3-0 deficit to tie it in the top of the ninth only to see Michael Conforto blast a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off and move the Mets 1 ½ games ahead of the DBacks for the final Wild Card spot.

The story of this one looked like it was going to be the pitching of Steven Metz. He was brilliant through seven innings, but the DBacks got to him in the eighth and then had a shot against the Mets suspect bullpen. Metz got the DBacks to ground into four double plays in the first six innings as they built a 3-0 lead.

Brandon Nimmo hit a solo home run off of Zach Godley in the third, and Michael Conforto hit a two run shot off of Godley in the fourth to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

An RBI single from Ketel Marte with two-outs in the eighth got Arizona on the board, and Eduardo Escobar singled home Marte two batters later to cut the Mets lead to 3-2. Nick Ahmed got called out looking with two men on to end the eighth.

In the ninth, Ildemaro Vargas hit a pinch hit single to score Blake Swihart with one out to tie the game. Then with the bases loaded and two-outs, Domingo Santana ripped one to right, but Michael Conforto made a diving catch to end the inning with the score tied.

Conforto then ended it in the bottom half with a long solo home run to right as Citi Field erupted. The Mets had lost seven of eight coming in and the win now moved them 1 ½ games up on Arizona. Arizona has now lost 5 of 7.

On Tuesday evening the DBacks bounced back with a big 7-3 victory. They pounded out 17 hits and got some help from four Mets errors as they evened this crucial series. Ketel Marte went 2 for 5 with the big blow being a second inning grand slam.

Dallas Keuchel gave up two first inning runs, then didn’t give up another until the eighth as he went 7 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.

Adam Jones and Tim Locastro each had three hits in the win.

The Mets took game three, 3-2, behind a great pitching performance from Corey Oswalt. Oswalt (6-7) pitched 6 1/3 innings and absolutely baffled the DBacks hitters with his mix of garbage and puss. He allowed one run on just four hits while striking out four and not allowing a walk.

He would get offensive support from Brandon Nimmo, who blasted a two-run home run off of Felix Hernandez in the third inning to put the Mets up 3-0.

Arizona’s punchless offense that managed just six hits got a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a solo home run from Eduardo Escobar in the ninth. It was Escobar’s 31st on the year.

Edwin Diaz picked up the save for the Mets, earning his 41st on the year, but it wasn’t easy. He served up two or three meatballs in the inning. Ketel Marte absolutely blasted one that right fielder Michael Conforto made an unhumanlike break on and caught deep in the right centerfield alley on the warning track. Escobar then blasted a 462-foot home run to right. Jake lamb unloaded on a moon shot that hooked just foul but was estimated at almost 500 feet. He would get David Peralta to end the game on a fly ball to dead center that Deon Broxton caught on the dead run on the warning track.

The story in the finale was Taijuan Walker. He sent down the first 20 batters that he faced before back-to-back singles in the seventh. He went seven innings, allowing those two hits while striking out five in a 6-0 win that the DBacks desperately needed.

Arizona hit four solo home runs in the game with Adam Jones and David Peralta each notching their 20th on the season. Eduardo Escobar hit his 32nd and Jake Lamb blasted his 39th on the year.

Arizona (80-67) now returns home to face Cincinnati and Miami. They play 12 of their final 15 games at Chase Field.

                      CHASE FOR THE WILD CARD
                      NLWC_Logo

With just 17 days left in the regular season here are the remaining schedules for the National League Wild Card contenders:

                      Washington (82-64): ATL (3), @STL (3), @MIA (3), PHI (4), CLE (3)
                      New York (80-66): LAD (3), @ COL (3), @ CIN (3), MIA (4), ATL (3)
                      Arizona (80-67): CIN (3), MIA (3), @ SD (3), STL (3), SD (3)
                      Chicago (75-71): PIT (3), CIN (3), STL (4), @PIT (3), @ STL (3)

Washington looks to have the inside track but they finish with seven tough games, while the Mets play two division leaders. Arizona plays 12 of 15 at home and only the Reds have a winning record. The Cubs are a long shot at this point.

                        SEPT 13-15: CINCINNATI (84-66) @ ARIZONA (82-68)

                        Sept 13: Reds 9, DBacks 6
                        Sept 14: DBacks 6, Reds 4
                        Sept 15: DBacks 13, Reds 2

The DBacks dropped the opener, then rallied to take the final two games to win the series and move back into the final Wild Card spot in the National League with just 12 games remaining in the 2019 season.

The DBacks dropped the opener to the Reds 9-6 in a game that they fell behind early and could never quite get back into. Ketel Marte pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth and flew out to the warning track with two men on to end the ball game.

The Reds used a four run third inning to move in front 5-1 and never looked back. RBI doubles from Yasiel Puig and Scott Schebler keyed the third inning rally against a very average looking Robbie Ray. Ray (13-7) was knocked around, lasting only 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Scott Gannett hit a solo home run in the fourth, and Jose hit a solo shot in the sixth off of Matt Koch.

The DBacks offense came alive but they just could not seem to get that hit to get them over the hump in this one. Nick Ahmed and Jake Lamb both homered in the loss. For Lamb, it was his 40th on the season.

The DBacks were able to grind out a 6-4 victory on Saturday evening thanks to three long balls as they get back to within a half game of the Mets. David Peralta’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the winner.

Arizona built a 3-0 through four innings. Adam Jones lined an RBI single, and Carson Kelly hit a sacrifice fly and added a solo home run to account for the DBacks runs.

Zach Godley was cruising through five innings, not allowing a run, but he ran into trouble in the sixth. After allowing a double and single, Scott Schebler doubled home both Eugenio Suarez and Yasiel Puig to cut the lead to 3-2. Matt Koch came on in relief and gave up an RBI double to Tucker Barnhart to tie the ball game.

In the bottom of the sixth, the DBacks got help from an unlikely power source as Ildemaro Vargas hit a solo home run to left to give Arizona the lead back. It was just his third home run on the season. David Peralta would add that insurance two-run home run in the eighth. It would be huge because in the ninth, Jose Peraza homered to left off of closer Archie Bradley.

Bradley would then lock it down for his 17th save in 21 opportunities.

In the finale, the DBacks pounded five home runs and also drew eight walks in a 13-2 demolition of the Reds. Eduardo Escobar homered twice and rove in four runs to lead the onslaught.

Dallas Keuchel (8-6) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs while scattering ten hits. He struck out five and walked one while getting the Reds to ground into two double plays.

Luis Castillo (8-10) was just plain awful for the Reds. He only lasted four innings, throwing 90 pitches and allowing seven runs on just six hits. He walked five and struck out four.

The DBacks will now host Miami (65-84) to close out the home stand as they moved to within a half game of the Nationals for the top National League Wild Card spot. The Dodgers have clinched the National League West leading Arizona by 12 ½ games with 12 remaining.

                          SEPT 16-18: MIAMI (67-85) @ ARIZONA (83-70)

                          Sept 16: Marlins 6, DBacks 3
                          Sept 17: Marlins 5, DBacks 3
                          Sept 18: DBacks 5, Marlins 4

The Diamondbacks managed to salvage the finale to avoid what would have been a devastating sweep at the hands of the worst team in the National League.

The Marlins took the opener 6-3 at Chase Field. Miguel Rojas went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs to help lead the suddenly hot Marlins to victory. The victory on Monday was the Marlins seventh in their last nine.

Miami grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a Jorge Alfaro two-run home run off of Felix Hernandez. The DBacks got both of those runs back in the bottom half on a Nick Ahmed RBI double and Felix Hernandez RBI single.

Miguel Rojas’ RBI double in the top of the sixth put the Marlins in front for good. He would then score on an Alfaro ground out to make it 4-2. Rojas then hit a two-run home run in the eighth off of Tyler Boyd to give the Marlins a four run cushion.

Trevor Richards (7-14) picked up the win for Miami, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked three. Felix Hernandez (8-9) took the loss for Arizona, going six innings and allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked one.

Tuesday evening was a galling loss for the DBacks as they gave up four runs in the top of the ninth to drop a 5-3 decision to the last place Marlins. Curtis Granderson hit a two-run home run off of Archie Bradley in the ninth to tie the game at 3-3, then Josh Durant hit a two-run home run off of Adam Liberatore as the Marlins won their fourth straight.

This game was scoreless after seven innings, but Starlin Castro homered off of Matt Koch in the top of the eighth to put Miami in front 1-0.

In the bottom of the eighth Eduardo Escobar doubled home Jake Lamb and Ildemaro Vargas to put Arizona in front. Escobar was injured sliding into second and had to be removed from the game. Ryon Healy then doubled home the pinch runner, Drew Ellis to put the DBacks up 3-1, before the ninth inning collapse.

Taijuan Walker was masterful, but he had to leave the game with one out in the sixth due to an apparent shoulder injury. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on four hits, while striking out four. The bullpen, which has been pretty good lately just could not keep it together late as the DBacks fell 1 ½ games back of the Mets.

Caleb Smith, who has been a gas can for Miami all season, was masterful Tuesday evening. He worked seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six, but picked up a no decision.

Notes: Taijuan Walker suffered a dislocated shoulder that will end his 2019 season. The DBacks recalled Luke Weaver from Triple-A Reno to replace him on the roster. His spot in the rotation will likely go to Merrill Kelly.

In the finale, Robbie Ray brought his A-game, tossing seven innings, and allowing just two runs on three hits. He sent down 18 straight Marlins at one point after allowing two first inning solo home runs to Jorge Alfaro and Starlin Castro.

Ketel Marte got the DBacks on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to right, his 22nd on the season. In the fifth Robbie Ray lined a two-out single to center, scoring Nick Ahmed to tie the game at 2-2. Tim Locastro then doubled home Ray to give Arizona the lead.

Ryon Healy homered to left in the sixth and Adam Jones homered to center in the seventh as Arizona moved in front 5-2.

Luke Weaver, recently called up from Triple-A, came on in the eighth, and got roughed up. Lewis Brinson lined a single to open the inning. Rosell Herrera then lined an RBI double off the wall in left. Two ground balls later and Herrera scored to cut the DBacks lead to 5-4. Miguel Rojas then doubled off the wall in center and Manager Torey Lovullo went to Boyd. He would get Anderson to strike out looking to end the eighth.

Andrew Chafin came on to secure the win in the ninth. After a leadoff single, he sent the Marlins down in order to earn his 10th save.

The win moved the DBacks back to within a half game of the Mets for the final Wild Card spot. Arizona has nine games left; at San Diego for three, then home for St Louis for three and San Diego for three. The Mets are at Cincinnati for three, then they host Miami for four games and Atlanta for three to end the season.

                                SEPT 20-22: ARIZONA (84-72) @ SAN DIEGO (73-83)

                                Sept 20: Padres 2, DBacks 1
                                Sept 21: Padres 6, DBacks 4
                                Sept 22: DBacks 11, Padres 1

The DBacks dropped two of three in San Diego as their Wild Card hopes are beginning to fade.

Connie Pena confounded the DBacks bats in the opener, tossing 7 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on five hits in a 2-1 San Diego victory. Manny Machado, who struck out in his first three at bats, hit a line drive off of Andrew Chafin’s head with two outs in the eight, driving home Freddie Galvis with the go ahead run as the DBacks playoff hopes are slipping away.

Chafin was removed from the game with a possible concussion.

The Padres took the lead in the fifth as Fernando Tatis Jr singled up the middle to score Hunter Renfroe. The DBacks would tie it up in the eighth as pinch hitter Blake Swihart singled home Drew Ellis, pinch running for Alex Avila.

Zach Godley pitched well, going five innings and allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out six without walking a batter. Matt Koch tossed two scoreless innings, before Chafin came on in the eighth and allowed the run on two hits before leaving after getting hit by the line drive. Chafin fell to (2-5) on the season.

The listless DBacks dropped the second game on Saturday evening 6-4. After building a 4-0 lead through 3 ½ innings, Dallas Keuchel imploded and the Padres scored two in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth to take control and keep the DBacks reeling.

Keuchel (8-7) was brutal in this one, lasting just 4+ innings and allowing the five runs (three earned) on nine hits.

Jake Lamb got the DBacks going early with an RBI double in the first inning. Adam Jones then hit a solo home run to left in the second to make it 2-0. Jones would hit a second home run in the fourth, a two-run shot. It was his 24th on the season as he is desperately trying to get back to the post season.

Eric Hosmer got the Padres on the board in the bottom of the fourth, singling home Manny Machado . Luis Campusano grounded a single to center with two-outs to score Eric Hosmer to cut the DBacks lead in half at 4-2.

Ender Inciarte led off the fifth with a base hit. Yon-Wong Rivera then doubled Inciarte home. Manny Machado then unloaded on the first pitch that he saw and hit a long home run to left to put San Diego in front 5-4, ended Dallas Keuchels night.

Fernando Tatis Jr would pick up an insurance RBI in the eighth, bouncing a high chopper than no one could get to allowing Hunter Renfroe to score.

Kirby Yates pitched the ninth and after allowing a single to Nick Ahmed, he was able to lock it down to pick up his 36th save. Dinelson Lamet (3-7) picked up the win for San Diego, going six innings and allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked two.

In the finale, Felix Hernandez pitched a nice game and he got plenty of help as the Diamondbacks crushed the Padres 11-1.

Hernandez (9-9) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out two and walked one. The lone run allowed was a solo home run to Manny Machado to open the bottom of the seventh.

Offensively, this series was really the Adam Jones show. He went 2 for 5 with a home run in this one, going 7 for 12 in the series with two doubles, three home runs and four RBIs. He homered in the second inning in the finale, his 25th on the season.

Arizona hit five home runs in the game with Nick Ahmed (9), Eduardo Escobar (35), Carson Kelly (8) and Ryon Healy (22) also hitting home runs.

Arizona now returns home for the finale homestand of the 2019 season taking on St. Louis (72-84) and San Diego (73-83). They trail the Mets by 1 ½ games for the final National League Wild Card spot.
