The Rangers will begin a 12-game road trip with a three-game series in Detroit against the Tigers. The Tigers have lost eight straight. The Rangers lead the season series 2-0.

Rumors are circulating that the Detroit Tigers have placed LF Willie Horton on the trading block.

In the top of the second, Ford put the Rangers on the board first with a sacrifice fly. Stanhouse picked up an RBI with an infield single. Nelson got a two-out RBI single in the inning. Mincher followed Nelson with his own RBI single. Then Harrah made it a five-run inning with an RBI single. An error loaded the bases with two out. Billings, in his second at bat of the inning, grounded to short to retire the side.

Stanhouse had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Texas 5 Detroit 0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rodriguez scored from third on a wild pitch for the Tigers first run of the game.

In the top of the sixth, with a runner on first and one out, Harry Parker took the mound for the Tigers. Maddox was thrown out at home trying to score from first on a Nelson double.

Northrup led off the bottom of the sixth with a single for the Tigers first hit of the game.

After six: Texas 5 Detroit 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, with runners at first and second and one out, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers and got McAuliffe to ground into the 4-6-3 to end the inning.

Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth.

Chris Zachary took the mound for the Tigers in the top of the ninth. The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Kubiak added an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cash hit a two-run homer.

The Rangers out-hit the Tigers 11-4 in the contest.

Final score: Texas 7 Detroit 3.

Due to yesterday's rainout, the Rangers will conclude their three-game series in Detroit against the Tigers with a Sunday doubleheader.

The Oakland Athletics have traded C Dave Duncan and SS Dwain Anderson to the California Angels for SP Rudy May.

A walk followed to load the bases with one out. Thompson hit Kubiak with a pitch to force Mincher home from third. Bosman, the pitcher, grounded into the 4-6-3 to end the inning but not before the Rangers had scored four.

In the bottom of the second, Haller put the Tigers on the board with an RBI single.

In the top of the third, Biittner scored from third when Kubiak grounded into the 4-6-3.

In the bottom of the third, Kaline picked up an RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, with runners at first and second and two out, Tom Timmerman took the mound for the Tigers. Kubiak walked to load the bases. But Bosman struck out to retire the side.

In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly from Billings added to the Rangers lead. With a runner at first and one out, Chris Zachary took the mound for the Tigers.

Harry Parker took the mound for the Tigers in the top of the eighth. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Mincher brought two home with a single. A two-out walk to Biittner reloaded the bases. Harrah then struck out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the ninth, Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers to protect a six-run lead.

The Rangers got 12 hits in the win.

In the bottom of the first, after giving up a lead off single, Stanhouse left the game with an injured shoulder. Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers. Two walks later and the bases were loaded with nobody out. Powell walked on a full count pitch to bring home the game's first run. Johnson grounded into the 3-6 fielder's choice to bring home another run. Robinson brought in the inning's third run by grounding to third. Blair followed with a two-out RBI double. The next batter, Etchebarren, did the same. The Orioles batted around the order and put up a crooked number on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the second, Rettenmund hit an RBI double. With a runner on second and nobody out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers. Rettenmund went on to score from third when Harrah made an errant throw to second on a Powell grounder. Baylor scored from third when Robinson grounded to second.

After three: Baltimore 8 Texas 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Orioles loaded the bases with two out. Blair struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, on three straight walks, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Biittner put the Rangers on the board with a two-run single.

Tonight is the final game in the series in Baltimore between the Rangers and the Orioles. Not only have the Rangers lost the first two games of this series but they also lost both games' starting pitchers to injury.

The Rangers placed SP Don Stanhouse on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to 05/10/1972 and signed free agent RP Aurelio Monteagudo to a 1-year contract worth a total of $42,000.

A rumor has started that the New York Yankees have placed CF Felipe Alou on the trading block.

McNally had a no-hitter through three.

After three: Texas 0 Baltimore 0.

Maddox led off the top of the fourth with a single for the Rangers first hit of the game. Maddox went on to score on a sacrifice fly by Howard.

Powell led off the bottom of the fourth with a game-tying home run. The Orioles went on to load the bases with nobody out. Hand set Etchebarren down on strikes for the first out. McNally flew to right for the second out. With a chance to get out of the jam, Hand threw a wild pitch, allowing Johnson to score the go-ahead run. Grich walked to reload the bases with two out. Rettenmund then put the Orioles in command with a two-run single. The Orioles ended up batting around the order in the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Howard threw Etchebarren out at home as he tried to score from second on a two-out single by Grich.

After six: Baltimore 4 Texas 1.

In the bottom of the eighth, Aurelio Monteagudo took the mound for the Rangers. Etchebarren hit a two-out solo home run.

Final score: Baltimore 5 Texas 1.

The Rangers continued their road trip with a three-game series in Cleveland against the surprising Indians. The Rangers are 2-4 so far on this road trip. The Indians have won nine of their last 11. The Indians lead the season series 2-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, with runners at first and second and one out, Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers and he got Bell to ground into the inning-ending 5-4-3.

In the top of the ninth, Denny Riddleberger took the mound for the Indians.

In the bottom of the ninth, Duffy picked up a two-out RBI single. But the Indians got no closer.

The Indians committed three errors in the loss.
