RECAP

Seattle, WA- Ichiro made his 2018 Season debut after spending April down with Triple-A Tacoma.
The 44 year old Mariner Icon was all smiles despite his club falling to rival Oakland Athletics(19-11).

"Bittersweet for me." Ichiro stated with a translator. "Great to be back up here with this great club and fans. Even though this may be my last year, I enjoyed it."

The Mariners(13-17) continue to struggle as the Athletics(19-11) continue to be a thorn in their side.

"We're just not able to get a win over them." Mariners Skipper Scott Servais stated.

Even with Ichiro and Dan Vogelbach making their debuts tonight, the Mariners managed just 5 hits off and 1 run.

The only score was Dan Vogelbach's first career homerun.

"I put a good swing on it." Vogelbach stated.

But the game was still lost inside Safeco Field as the Mariners failed to get any offense going.

A's Pitcher Kendall Graveman(3-0) was a game manager tonight finishing with just 3 hits and 2 strikeouts.

The Athletics(19-11) defense took care of the rest.

"Great group of guys out there tonight. We got the job done." A's Manager Bob Melvin stated.

Oakland turned to their Closer Liam Hendriks and he picked up his 12th Save.

"We can't seem to beat them. We have to figure out how we're going to get wins over our rivals." Servais said.

MARINERS blow 6 run lead but rally to avoid ATHLETICS sweep...

RECAP

Seattle, WA- It was a bizarre turn of events tonight inside Safeco Field when the Seattle Mariners(14-17) and the Oakland Athletics(19-12) met.

The A's looked to sweep their American League West Rivals for the second time this year but couldn't get the job done.

Even with the struggling Felix Hernandez(1-4) on the mound. The once dominant "King" has been a shell of his former MVP self this year.

The Mariners raced out to a 7-1 lead in the third inning as they went to work on A's Pitcher Sean Manaea(3-1).

Manaea would only last 3 innings giving up 7 hits, 7 runs, and 3 strikeouts.

Bob Melvin pulled him for Yusmeiro Petit(2-1) and expected him to work some innings.

"We struggled tonight out of the gate. We battled back but fell short." A's Manager Bob Melvin said.

Felix Hernandez went 6 plus innings giving up 13 hits, 8 runs, and 4 strikeouts.

Hernandez continues to struggle this year. His ERA is at 7.88.

The A's took advantaged and rattled off more runs to take the lead in the 7th.

"He's in a funk and he knows it. Baseball is a long season. Players will go in and out with slumps. Bottom line is we won the game tonight." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Seattle(14-17) would rally in the bottom of the 7th dropping 4 runs. The Mariners blasted 6 HR's.

2 of them off Right Fielder Mitch Haniger.

"Felt good with those swings and luckily the rest of my team followed." Joked Haniger.

The Mariners snuck past their rivals when Closer Edwin Diaz came in and got some retribution for himself as he shut the door for his 10th save.

The Mariners avoided the sweep tonight but now they must set their sights on another AL West rival, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim(20-11).

The Athletics(19-12) will head back to California to host the Baltimore Orioles(17-15).

MARINERS prepare for ANGELS

SEATTLE- The struggling Mariners will turn their attention to West rivals the Angels.

The two clubs are set to begin a 3 game series inside Safeco Field.

"We know each other well and have had some great games over the years." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The Mariners are treading water bad this year and new GM Lou Piniella is looking to rebuild the club he last led to a Playoff berth in 2001.

The M's have lost 3 of 4 coming into the Series with L.A.A.

The Angels rock the 7th best ERA at 3.28.

SEATTLE- The Angels(22-11) we're ready for "Big Maple" James Paxton tonight when they rattled off 7 runs in just the first inning.

James Paxton(4-2) never stood a chance.

"Games like that are going to happen. He just had a bad game. We all did." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

The Halos had a 9-0 lead in just the 3rd inning. Andrew Heaney(3-0) was pitching like a boss holding the M's to 0 runs.

"With good pitching your team will win games. We had great pitching tonight." Angels Manager Mike Scioscia stated.

Heaney(3-0) went 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits, 0 runs, and 7 K's.

The Angels(22-11) turned the ball over to Tyler Skaggs and Blake Parker to finish the game.

They combined with 7 strikeouts.

"Proud of our bullpen. The depth we got." Scioscia stated.

James Paxton(4-2) was rattled from the start, a unfamiliar sight for the Mariners left hander.

He left after 3.1 innings giving up 9 runs, 9 hits, and 4 K's.

"Bad day. I was out of rhythm." Paxton stated.

The Mariners(14-18) we're dead in the water.

General Manager Lou Piniella has his hands full in his first year in the Office.

"Takes time to rebuild something. We still have a long road ahead of us." Piniella stated.

Game 2 will be tomorrow night when Mariners Mike Leake(0-3) will take the mound to face off against Alex Meyer(4-1).

Seattle, WA- No lead was safe in tonights game when the Angels(22-12) and Mariners(15-18) met.

The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in just the first inning thanks to a Nelson Cruz HR.

Then Los Angeles put up 2 in the 2nd.

Then Seattle rebounded in the bottom of the 3rd.

This was the pattern throughout the game. No lead was safe.

The Halos would take a 8-6 lead in the later innings but the Mariners wouldn't go away quietly.

Kyle Seager blasted a HR that put Seattle up for good.

"I saw a great pitch and swung as hard as I could." Mariners 3B Kyle Seager stated.

Seager finished the day 1-4, HR, 2 RBI's, and a run.

The Mariners then turned the ball over to Closer Edwin Diaz.

The young hotshot Puerto Rican flamethrower came in and got his 11th save of the year.

"We always feel great when Diaz is on the mound." Mariners Manager Scott Servais stated.

Diaz was on fire in the 9th even striking out Angels Mike Trout.

"He brought some heat that's for sure. Gotta give it to him." Trout laughed.

"We couldn't hold leads everytime we took it. We kept switching off and on." Angels Manager Mike Scioscia stated.

The real star however was Angels First Baseman Albert Pujols. Pujols blasted 3 Homeruns.
