Delaware Blue Hens- CH2K10

Just picked up CHoops 2K8 after about 6 months of not playing, and I felt compelled to start a new legacy with a below average, but not dreadful, team. I picked Delaware for multiple reasons; I like the CAA, UD has a nice arena, and the school is located near basketball hotbeds like Philadelphia and most of New Jersey. Any suggestions are welcome, as this is the first time I've posted a dynasty on OS and some things look a little confusing. Here's to a lengthy career, and thanks in advance to anyone who follows!

Re: Delaware Blue Hens- CH2K10

2009-2010 Outlook

First-time Head Coach Jon Fendler takes over a team short on depth and experience. The Blue Hens have just one senior in 6th man Brian Johnson, but boast one of the best guard combos in the conference in juniors Jawan Carter (5'11, 185) and Alphonso Dawson (6'4, 210). The duo will be counted on to shoulder a tremendous load this season, as the Blue Hens have little experience on the wings and interior. Sophomore Hakim McCullar (6'8 SO) showed flashes of excellence last season, but was frequently plagued by foul trouble. The freshman tandem of wing Kevin McNeil (6'7, 215) and forward Jamelle Hagins (6'8, 220) are penciled in to the starting lineup, though they will share time with fellow freshman Josh Brinkley (6'8, 220). Junior D.J. Boney is a versatile player who can shoot the three-ball and played extensive minutes last season at both the 2 and 3 spots on the floor. Freshman guard Malcolm Hawkins (6'6, 220) is a long, rangy defender who will be expected to provide depth at multiple positions. Adam Pegg (6'9, 235 SO) and Edwin Santiago (6'2, 175 JR) will play sparingly.

Most prognosticators expected a near-the-cellar finish for the young Blue Hens. Expect plenty of growing pains in Coach Fendler's first year, though the Carter-Dawson pair will be exciting to watch. Don't be surprised if both players push for1st-team All-Conference status by season's end.

Jawan Carter 78 OVR
Alphonso Dawson 73 OVR
Kevin McNeil 70 OVR
Brian Johnson 68 OVR
Hakim McCullar 68 OVR
Josh Brinkley 67 OVR
D.J. Boney 66 OVR
Malcolm Hawkins 63 OVR
Jamelle Hagins 62 OVR
Adam Pegg 59 OVR
Edwin Santiago (W) 52 OVR

Coach Fendler announces 2009-2010 Blue Hen Schedule

-Newark, DE,

First-year Blue Hens coach Jon Fendler announced that scheduling has been completed for the 2009-2010 Delaware men's basketball season. The Blue Hens will open the season against Marist from the MAAC before making the short trip to Philadelphia to battle the Temple Owls. The Hens will host in-state rival Delaware State before heading to Iowa on Demember 7th for the 4-team Drake Regency Classic. The final game of the non-conference slate will pit the Blue Hens against the Terrapins of Maryland in College Park.

Coach Fendler believes the schedule is an eclectic mix of teams and venues:

"We've assembled a slate of games against a wide variety of teams. We'll have some opportunities to play teams with similar skill sets, but we'll also challenge ourselves with games at Maryland and Temple, plus there will be the long road trip to Iowa. We'll also try and re-establish the rivalry with our in-state rival, Delaware State. We would like for this to continue to be an annual event, and this year's game should be intriguing for basketball in the state of Delaware."

Re: Delaware Blue Hens- CH2K10

Future Blue Hen Report

Scholarships Available: 4

Current Targets:

Andrew Buboltz 6'10 220 C (New York, NY) 3* #270 OVR #24 POS. (DEL #2, 98%) OFFERED
Mack Shipp 6'5 228 SF (Athens, GA) 3* #290 OVR #54 POS. (DEL #3, 78%) OFFERED
Kashieff Platt 6'11 246 C (Queens, NY) 3* #140 OVR #14 POS. (DEL #8, 64%)
Tommy Stapely 6'5 214 SF (Philly, PA) 3* JC FR No Ranking (DEL #1, 91%) OFFERED
Michael Thommason 6'2 182 SG (Baltimore, MD) 3* #231 OVR # 67 POS (DEL #2, 82%)

Coach Fendler is very high on the potential of Andrew Buboltz, a standout center from New York City. Buboltz averaged a double-double during the ABL season (15.0 PPG, 10.4 RPG), and is the centerpiece of UD's early recruiting efforts. The Hens are one of two schools to offer him a scholarship to this point, and appear to be running slightly behind Fairfield for his services.

Delaware also offered a scholarship this past week to Athens, GA product Mack Shipp, who would bring much needed toughness at the #3 spot. It appears that Delaware and Furman are the only two schools to offer him a scholarship to this point, though it is rumored that the Georgia Bulldogs are beginning to pursue Shipp, and most insiders within the state believe he would remain close to home if UGA comes calling.

Last week, UD offered one of its four scholarships to Junior College freshman Tommy Stapely, a 6'5 SF from the Philadelphia area. Stapely is a terrific rebounder for his size, though questions linger regarding his shooting ability and basketball IQ. It appears Delaware has the inside track for his services at this point, and numerous recruiting outlets believe Stapely will sign his L.O.I. on the first day of the early signing period in a few weeks.

If things do not work out on the Buboltz front, Delaware is expected to make a strong run for Queens, NY product Kashieff Platt, who has yet to signal much interest in any one particular school. Coach Fendler deployed assistant coach Kevin Reyes to NYC last week to scout two of Platt's games, and Reyes was said to be impressed by Platt's rebounding ability and prodigious size.
