Bryant goes off for 57 points as Lakers put offense in high hear over Rockets
HOUSTON, TX - Starting a three game road trip the Lakers took to the road to face the Houston Rockets for the first time this season. Entering the game both teams were in first place in their division, but the Lakers came in with a four game winning streak and the Rockets were in the midst of a three game losing streak. Kobe Bryant was in his zone tonight and nothing that Houston could do would deprive him of either getting to the basket or hitting jumper after jumper. Finishing with a season high 57 points, hitting 20-32 shots from the field and going 13-17 from the free throw line Kobe Bryant led the Lakers to a 117-113 victory out scoring the Rockets 71-63 in the second half. Derek Fisher added 11 points going 8-8 from the free throw line including hitting 6-6 in the final minutes of the game. Pau Gasol put up a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Martin led the Rockets with a team high 35 points before fouling out in the final minute of the game. Martin hit 13-23 shots from the field including 5-10 from three point range. Luis Scola added 14 points and Terrence Williams added 13 points and 7 rebounds. The Lakers with the win have now won five straight games going into their next stop on the road, a match up that everyone is waiting for, against the Miami Heat on Thursday.

December 8, 2011 - Miami Heat 118, Los Angeles Lakers 110

lakersgameday.png
Lakers foul trouble in second half costly in final stretch of the game against Heat
MIAMI, FL - It was the third meeting between the Heat and their big three against the dominant Western Conference Lakers, the first this season and a much anticipated preview of what many are saying is going to finally be the NBA Finals match up...Kobe vs. LeBron. Now over the last eight years the head to head record between LeBron andn Kobe has favored LeBron, but when it comes to playing in June and being the last man standing none other then Kobe Bryant stands on the top of that mountain still. A sell out crowd filled the AmericanAirlines Arena tonight and the Lakers and Heat did battle in a heated contest from start to finish and the fireworks didn't go off til the second half started. The Lakers holding a 57-55 lead at halftime came out and were immediately hit with a furious run by the Heat as both Gasol and Bynum picked up their fourth fouls and had to be delegated to the bench and watch the rest of the third. The Heat rushed out on a 17-6 run and captured the lead and would not give it up. While Gasol and Bynum sat on the sidelines, Kobe Bryant went to work with the Lakers down by as many as ten points in the quarter and he kept the Lakers within striking distance with the help of Lamar Odom, but in the end the Heat just proved to much and went on to a 118-110 victory. Kobe finished with a game high 45 points and dished out 7 assists and was an efficient 17-34 from the field and 10-12 from the line. Andrew Bynum had a strong first half, but foul trouble limited his minutes in the second half, but he still finished with a double double, 20 points and 11 rebounds plus 5 block shots. Gasol added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 block shots of his own before fouling out as well. Dwyane Wade poured in a team high 26 points along with 5 steals on the defensive end that had the Lakers commit 18 turnovers in the game and resulted in 18 steals for the Heat. Udonis Haslem added a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Chris Bosh finished up with 18 points and 9 rebounds and James was held to 11 points, but did his damage elsewhere with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Both teams shot with great efficiency from the field during the entire game with the Lakers finishing up 40-77 from the field and the Heat 41-79. The game was decided at the free throw line with the Heat hitting 33-43 and the Lakers going 29-34. The Lakers will finish up thisweek long three game road trip tomorrow against the Charlotte Bobcats.

December 9, 2011 - Charlotte Bobcats 105, Los Angeles Lakers 101

lakersgameday.png
Lakers once again have no answer for Charlotte as Bobcats come from behind
CHARLOTTE, NC - At some point they are going to be able to figure out how to beat a team. At some point they are going to be able to right all the wrongs over the past few years, but until then the Lakers are simply going to have to admit and come to terms with the fact that when it comes to the Charlotte Bobcats, the Bobcats just have the Lakers number. Only one other team in the league has a winning record against the Lakers in regular season history and that is the Boston Celtics, while the Bobcats simply have given the Lakers fits over the years especially in Charlotte. Overtime has become the theme when these two teams face off and tonight, it held true. Up by 16 points entering the fourth quarter, the Lakers allowed the Bobcats back in the game and almost let them pull off an incredible fourth quarter comeback, but D.J. Augustin's last second three point attempt was well short and sent the game into overtime where the Lakers looked like they have regained control only to see the Bobcats claw their way back to tie the game and force a second overtime and that is where D.J. Augustin went to work and provided the finish needed to hand the Lakers their second straight loss with a 105-101 victory in double overtime. The Lakers for the second straight game lost despite Kobe Bryant going off for another offensive performance, this time putting up 48 points along with 4 assists and 4 steals, but shot 16-40 from the field including 3-12 from three point range, but off set that with going 13-15 from the free throw line. Derek Fisher put in 13 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while both Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest had 12 points apiece in the loss. Pau Gasol was a non factor finishing up with just 4 points in 48 minutes played but did pull down a team high 14 rebounds. Gasol only had three field goal attempts the entire game. The Bobcats were led by point guard D.J. Augustin who finished with a team high 34 points along with 6 assists and was 13-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. Corey Maggette and Gerald Henderson each had 19 points apiece and Tyrus Thomas added a double double with 15 points and game high 18 rebounds.
