Home sweet home as Lakers make short work of Jazz
Second meeting of the season is just like the first

LOS ANGELES, After another successful road trip the Lakers returned for a short time home to take on the Utah Jazz for the second time this season. The Lakers and Jazz met the second week of the season in Utah witih the Lakers taking a 92-62 win, dismantling the Jazz from start to finish as the starters sat and watched most of the second half from the sidelines. Last night at STAPLES it pretty much was more like a repeat of the first game as the Lakers from the openining tip jumped out to a comfortable and sizeable lead on their way to a 111-74 victory, giving them their 21st consecutive win to start the season. Kobe Bryant scored a team high 24 points in just playing 24 minutes and Dwight Howard posted a double double in short time with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Off the bench Jodie Meeks put in 13 points and Devin Ebanks added 10 as the Lakers second unit once again played a majority of the second half. The Jazz on the other hand came in with a 12-9 record, and had been playing some very good basketball, but against the Lakers they just weren't a match. Paul Millsap led the Jazz with a team high 19 points and off the bench former Clipper Randy Foye, playing in his STAPLES return added 13 points off the bench for the Jazz. The Jazz constant shooting struggles from the start of the game lasted the whole way and enabled the Lakers to grab an unprecedented 69 rebounds in the entire game. Al Jefferson for the second time this season against the Lakers was very ineffective as it look its tole on him guarding Dwight Howard on the block. The Lakers now will once again hit the road for a week where they will take on Cleveland, New York, Washington and Philadelphia.

Lakers continue to roll with latest road win against Cavs
First game of road trip puts Lakers in right mindset with New York up next

CLEVELAND, This current road trip that the Lakers find themselves on was not one that they would've given much attention when the season started, but over the past six weeks many things have changed that have put them in a different mindset. At first with a new head coach on opening night the Lakers were simply hoping to find some chemistry that they had been lacking through a winless preseason. Then after they had won 10 straight it was clear that chemistry wasn't something they lacked, but more like a killer instinct, but then that was unleashed as they continued to win night after night and just recently after winning their 20th consecutive game their mindset was not to have any letdown on this four game road trip which now had become more important to them given the opponents they would be facing, three out of the four were not playoff teams last season. First up was the Cleveland Cavaliers, who had surprisingly been a thorn in the Lakers side the last several years, upsetting the Lakers when the came to play their annual matchup in Cleveland. However, the Lakers hadn't come into a game against Cleveland with the stakes for them so high as they were now and Cleveland hadn't faced a team with so many weapons to this magnatude yet this season. It didn't matter in the long run as the Lakers once again jumped on their opponents early and often, capitalizing on any little mistake and making play after play that gave them a commanding 14 point lead at halftime, 48-34 and that was all they needed on their way to their 22nd consecutive victory with a 106-89 win over the Cavaliers. Kobe Bryant provided the early offense and finished with a team high 27 points, hitting 11-19 shots from the field and also made his presence known on the defensive end with 4 steals and Dwight Howard made his presence known in the second half finishing with 25 points and 7 rebounds on 11-15 from the field. The Cavaliers were unable to find any crack in the Lakers attack despite rookie Dion Waiters putting up a game high 30 points and Tristan Thompson recording a double double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Daniel Gibson, off the bench scored 21 points which the Cavaliers needed due to the large impact that Kobe Bryant had being assigned to guard Kyrie Irving. Irving had without a doubt the worst game of his early career, being harrassed by Bryant all game long which led to Irving finishing with just 2 points in the entire game. Irving recorded 35 minutes on the court, but was 0-4 from the field and dished out 10 assists, but his scoring was much needed if the Cavaliers were ever to have a chance. The Lakers got their ninth win of the season on the road and next up they will take on the New York Knicks, the top team in the Eastern Conference.

Game Notes
The Lakers continue their road trip with the first game of a back-to-back taking on the New York Knicks who come into the game atop the Eastern Conference.  Last year the Lakers were part of the Linsanity streak the Knicks experienced, but this year the team looks very different with Carmelo Anthony sacrificing his offensive scoring and buying into Mike Woodson's defensive philosophy has allowed the Knicks to go 11-2 after a 4-4 start.  The Knicks have lost their last two games after winning 11 straight.  The Lakers come in with their league best 22 game winning streak on the line.

Lakers streak is snapped as top teams in NBA collide
First loss of the season comes from the top team in the East

NEW YORK, It wasn't winning the NBA title, but the feeling you got watching the fans in Madison Square Garden go absolutely wild at the end could have given you the intepretation that the Knicks had won the NBA title. For a team that had missed the playoffs for seven straight years and been eliminated in the first round the last two years, coming into a matchup against the top team in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers, with a 22 game winning streak, it felt like a game for the NBA title. The Knicks themselves have made alot of noise in the first six weeks of the NBA season. After a 4-4 start the Knicks ran off 11 straight wins before dropping their last two and standing atop the Eastern Conference at 15-6 coming into the game. The Lakers atop the Western Conference, undefeated at 22-0 knew that the longer this streak went the tougher it would be to continue it and after beating some of the top teams in the league like the Spurs and Thunder earlier they had yet to play some of the top teams in the east like the Heat or the Celtics, but it was the Knicks that would spoil Kobe's Army streak and hand the Lakers their first loss of the season. Led by Carmelo Anthony, who after a 4-4 start had a private meeting with head coach Mike Woodson where Carmelo was asked to commit himself to focus on his defense and let his offense become secondary until the Knicks needed it and he couldn't have picked a better night to unleash it. No matter who was assigned to him Anthony was unstoppable, hitting his first 10 shots of the game and finishing with a game high 35 points, torching the Lakers defense on 15-20 from the field along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. J.R. Smith off the bench had 17 points, 13 of those in the 2nd quarter and Iman Shumpert added 16 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the Knicks in their 111-104 victory over the Lakers. Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard each had 25 points apiece leading the Lakers while Pau Gasol was the one player that was the most consistant throughout the game for the Lakers with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Jodie Meeks off the bench finished with 10 points (all in the 2nd quarter), but in the fourth quarter up 101-97, the Lakers could not come through with the stops defensively and make the plays on the offensive end as they watched their 22 game winning streak stop. For the Knicks they have won 12 of their last 14 games and improved to 16-6 on the year and 7-2 at home. The Lakers will not have any time to feel sorry for themselves as they take on the Washington Wizards in the second game of a back-to-back and third game of this road trip.

Eaglerock, I assume you are playing with your and vtcrb's roster and SB's sliders correct? I haven't had nearly as much success.

You are correct with the mentioned roster and slider set and best I can tell you is that I don't expect anyone to have the success with the Lakers that I have and that is only because I know this team inside and out and use them the way they should be used. Best advice is play to their strengths.
