Hayward, Jazz Agree On Extension

November 14th, 2013

The Utah Jazz and swingman Gordon Hayward have finally agreed on a contract extension that will keep Hayward in Utah until 2017. The extension is a 3-year deal worth $35.05M. Hayward will be paid $11.18M next season, followed by $11.68M and $12.19M the following seasons.

Hayward is having a career-year in his 4th-year in the league, averaging 21.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.0 BPG, 52% shooting, and 39% 3PT shooting. He has been the leader for the Jazz on and off the court this season.

Jazz Record Season-High 27 Assists, 17 Three-Pointers In Win Over Spurs

The Jazz keep on rollin'. In a game against one of the top teams in the league, the Jazz were in a dogfight in the first half. Then, they outscored San Antonio 39 to 28 in the 3rd quarter to take a commanding 11-point lead going into the 4th quarter. The Jazz distributed the ball all across the roster, as 5 players were in double-digits, and the bench also scored 49 points.

San Antonio was just the victim of a hot night from the Jazz offensively. It doesn't help that the Jazz outrebounded the Spurs by 11, either. Tim Duncan was held to 0-8 field goal shooting, and didn't record any points.

Shelvin Mack, in just his 2nd game as a member of the Jazz, was thrown into the starting lineup, where he thrived, scoring 13 points and recording 6 assists and 2 blocks while playing alongside Trey Burke at the 2-guard.

Overall, this is a great win for the Jazz, and who would have thought beginning the season, that Utah would be 6-4 and tied for 5th in the tough Western Conference? The Jazz head to Golden State tomorrow night to take on the Warriors, then come back home on the 18th to face the Warriors yet again.

Warriors Edge Out Jazz Despite Late 4th Quarter Jazz Push

November 16th, 2013

The Golden State Warriors improve to 6-4 with the nail-biter win over the Utah Jazz tonight at Oracle Arena. The Jazz held a 4 point lead with 2-minutes to go, but Golden State roared right back, eventually taking the lead and the game by a 1-point margin.

The Warriors got to the line 35 times, hitting 30 of their attempts. They shot 51% from the field, and despite getting drubbed by Utah in the paint, and also getting outshot by Utah from three-point land, the Warriors were able to hold on for the victory. Klay Thompson had 28 points, along with 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, while Stephen Curry filled the statsheet, finishing with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and a steal.

The Jazz committed fewer turnovers, shot 53% from three, and had 39 points off the bench, but it just wasn't enough for the win. Gordon Hayward lead the Jazz in scoring with 26, while Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors both had double-doubles. Kanter had 14 points and 10 rebounds, along with 2 blocks, while Favors had 12 points, 13 boards, 2 steals, and a block.

The Warriors and the Jazz play again Monday night in Salt Lake City in Energy Solutions Arena.

Jazz Get Revenge, Beat Warriors in Salt Lake City

November 18th, 2013

Two nights removed after a heartbreaking loss in Oakland, the Utah Jazz went right back at the Warriors at Energy Solutions Arena. Utah shot 50% from the field and from three-point land, and the bench outscored Golden State's bench 42 to 18. 5 Jazz players were in double-digits in scoring.

Leading the Jazz once again was swingman Gordon Hayward. Had had 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks on the night. Hayward has really come into his own as a bonafide number one option for the young, upstart Jazz team. Along with Hayward was rookie point guard Trey Burke, who finished with 16 points and 9 assists, a season-high for both statistics. He also recorded 5 rebounds on the night.

The Jazz spoiled Andre Iguodala's return after not playing a game since the 6th due to a hamstring injury. Iguodala finished with just 9 points off 33% shooting, along with 5 boards and 3 assists. Stephen Curry was doing everything once again for the Warriors, but it just wasn't enough for Golden State to get the win.

Utah improves to 7-5 and take on the Pelicans in New Orleans on Wednesday night.

Jazz Keep Rolling, Surge Past Pelicans

November 20th, 2013

The Jazz have done it again. Utah outscored New Orleans 71 to 54 in the 2nd half to capture their 8th win of the season. The Jazz are now 8-5 and are 7-3 of their last 10.

Gordon Hayward continues his All-Star campaign, going for 29, 4, and 4 while getting to the line 13 times, making 11 of his free throws. Enes Kanter finished with 22 and 9, and Trey Burke had 17 and 6 as the Jazz had 6 double-digit scorers tonight. Only 3 of them were starters.

Even though the Pelicans shot 58% from the field and 79% from the free throw line, the Jazz were somehow able to get to the line 48 times, making 32 of their attempts. The Jazz also outrebounded the Pels 47 to 33.

Can the Jazz continue their hot play or will they fizzle out to what they were projected to be this season; a lottery team? They travel to Dallas next on Friday and Oklahoma City on Sunday.
