Around The NBA—3/1/15

Gibson's Double-Double Helps Bulls Best Clippers; No Love For Rockets; 76ers Hold Pacers To Dismal 59 Points; Westbrook Carries Thunder To Victory

Gibson's Double-Double Helps Bulls Best Clippers
Taj Gibson scored 13 points and led all players with 14 rebounds as the Chicago Bulls overcame a 53-47 deficit at halftime to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 98-94. Jimmy Butler led the Bulls with 20 points, adding 6 assists and 3 steals, and Derrick Rose tallied 15 points and 5 assists in the win. Chris Paul scored 20 points and dished out 12 assists, but turned over the ball a ridiculous 13 times. Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan both had double-doubles, with Griffin recording 16 points and 12 rebounds while Jordan scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. A large portion of Bulls' points came on free throws (26/31) as the Clippers recorded 21 team fouls.

No Love For Rockets
The Cleveland Cavaliers roared back and outscored the Houston Rockets 31-18 in the final quarter to record their 45th win, 109-101. Kevin Love's double-double (19 points, 14 rebounds) was a key factor, as was LeBron James' 27 points, 5 boards, and a game-high 8 assists. Kyrie Irving also chipped in 212 points and 5 assists, and Tristan Thompson grabbed 13 boards and 3 steals. Dwight Howard had a monster double-double for Houston, scoring 21 points and hauling in 17 rebounds. James Harden scored 27 points in the loss.

76ers Hold Pacers To Dismal 59 Points
The Philadelphia 76ers scored all of 6 points in the 4th quarter, but still walked away with a double-digit defeat of the horrid Pacers, 73-59. Philadelphia scored 27 points in the first quarter, which would have been enough for a lead at halftime had they scored 0 points in the 2nd quarter (as it was, they led 42-24 at the half). Jason Richardson led all scorers with 16 points, and Michael Carter-Williams scored 14 points, grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. The two teams combined for a mere 23 assists. The Pacers were "led" by George Hill with 13 points, while David West hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds. The Pacers took 57 shots, two fewer shots than they had points.

Westbrook Carries Thunder To Victory
Russell Westbrook demanded, hunted for, and melded with the ball en route to an incredible triple-double in the Thunder's 121-108 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Westbrook led all scorers with 36 points, all rebounders with 15, and all passers with 12 assists, topping it all off with 3 steals. Serge Ibaka provided the secondary scoring, putting up 32 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Kevin Durant scored a mere 10 points, while hauling down 7 rebounds and recording 7 assists. Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and led the Lakers with 8 assists in the Lakers' 43rd loss of the season.

Around The NBA—3/3/15

Grizzlies Hit Buzzer Beater in Comeback; Love, Cavaliers Extend Streak To 9; League-Worst Lakers Win; Postgame Interview With Carlos Boozer

Grizzlies Hit Buzzer Beater in Comeback
The Memphis Grizzlies were losing 43-30 at halftime after scoring a mere 8 points in the 2nd quarter, but the Grizz roared back and Vince Carter hit a buzzer beater to give Memphis a 85-83 win over the Utah Jazz. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Mike Conley scored 17 points, and Carter's lone two-point field goal of his 13 points was the buzzer beater. Trey Burke and Dante Exum each scored 14 points to lead the Jazz, while Trevor Booker scored 12 and led Utah with 8 rebounds.

Love, Cavaliers Extend Streak To 9
Kevin Love led the Cavaliers with 30 points and 14 rebounds as Cleveland never lost the lead and beat the Boston Celtics 112-100. Tristan Thompson added 19 points and 9 rebounds, LeBron James turned in a double-double performance with 17 points and 10 boards, and the Cavs shot 52% from the field to win their 9th straight game. Kelly Olynyk led the Celtics with 24 points and 9 rebounds. The Celtics also got 16 points, 4 boards, 5 assists, and a game-high 6 assists from Marcus Smart.

League-Worst Lakers Win
The pitiful 16-43 Los Angeles Lakers beat the 28-30 Charlotte Hornets 95-92 behind a second half where the Lakers outscored the Hornets 62-36. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 21 points, also chipping in 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and a game-high 4 steals. Jeremy Lin recorded a double-double for Los Angeles, scoring 14 points and dishing out 11 assists. Al Jefferson led the Hornets with 24 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Lance Stephenson scored 17 points and tallied 6 assists.

Postgame Interview With Carlos Boozer
Carlos Boozer scored 14 points and hauled in 5 rebounds in the Lakers' 95-92 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
Q: What does it look like in the locker room when you win?
A: There are a lot of smiles and voices are clearer.

Q: Did you ever imagine playing for the Lakers would mean playing for the worst team in the NBA?
A: I don't think we're the worst, I think our record is bad, but I think any team with Kobe on it isn't going to be flat out bad.

Q: How hard is it to grab 5 rebounds?
A: Against guys like Al it's hard, but let's face it, it could be harder.
