Oladipo rallies Orlando to 2nd straight win

ORLANDO -- In what will be a season long search for success, the Orlando Magic took another step forward Friday night.

After losing their first four games the Magic won their second game in a row 93-88 over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In a back and fourth game it was Victor Oladipo who took over late to help preserve the win finishing with 21 points.

Nikola Vucevic continued to dominate the boards grabbing 25 rebounds, but scored just 8 points.

There were a lot of good story lines from this game," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said. "We got a lot of contributions all across the board."

Minnesota was led by rookie Andrew Wiggins who scored 17 points.

However, the bigger new for the T'Wolves was center Nikola Pekovic's ankle injury, suffered in the third quarter, that limited the big man to 23 minutes.

"We're playing combinations that haven't played before and you get to the fourth quarter and things really start affecting you," Minnesota coach Flip Suanders said. "Guys played hard, but we just couldn't finish it."

Johnson's late jumper nets win for Brooklyn

BROOKLYN -- The last offensive play for the Brooklyn Nets did not go as planned.

Fortunately for the Nets, they have Joe Johnson.

Johnson bailed out a poorly executed play and hit a step back jumper that gave the Nets a 90-88 win over the Orlando Magic.

Jarrett Jack and Johnson both scored 24 points to lead the Nets and Deron Williams added 10 points and 9 assists.

"I cleared out and he did the rest," Williams said of Brooklyn's final offensive play. "He made an unbelievable shot."

Both Nikola Vucevic and Channing Frye had double-doubles for Orlando who let the win slip away late. Vucevic with 18 points 15 rebounds, and Frye with 12 points 14 rebounds.

Victor Oladipo scored 14 points but suffered a pinched nerve in his back that will limit his play for the next 4-6 weeks. While he can play, expect the Magic to give him a rest for the time being as the team faces 4 games in 5 days.

Raptors top Magic for 2nd time this season

TORONTO -- DeMar DeRozan scored 24 points and 4 other Toronto Raptors scored in double figures as they beat the Orlando Magic for the second time this season.

The 94-89 loss puts Orlando back on losing streak.

Ben Gordon led the Magic with 19 points in just 23 minutes off the bench. With Victor Oladipo rested a back injury, Wille Green got the surprise start, but proved ineffective with 5 points and 4 assists in 29 minutes.

Nik Vucevic and Elfrid Payton both recorded double-doubles. 18 points and 16 rebounds for Vucevic and 12 points, 10 assists for Payton.

Orlando has no time to dwell on the loss as the face the Knicks in New York tomorrow night.

Shumpert leads Knicks past Magic 93-86

NEW YORK -- Iman Shumpert scored 23 points and the New York Knicks moved their record above .500 for the season, thanks to a 93-86 win over the Orlando Magic.

J.R. Smith had 17 points off the bench and Carmelo Anthony added 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Knicks held off a late charge from the Magic.

Despite leading Orlando with 19 points Nikola Vucevic failed to get double figure rebounds for the first time this season, finishing with nine.

Ben Gordon had another good game off the bench with 14 points in 17 minutes. It appears Magic coach Jacque Vaughn prefers to keep his scoring tied to the second unit even with Victor Oladipo sidelined.

Orlando gets a day off before returning home to face the Milwaukee Bucks. Oladipo is expected to return to line-up in limited minutes.
