Bucks Down Pelicans Again; Continue Win Streak

Khris Middleton scores a career high 25 tonight

New Orleans, LA -- The Milwaukee Bucks (33-34) have swept the New Orleans Pelicans (38-29) in their two games series this season. It also ties the Bucks longest win streak of the season at six games.

This one was a bit tougher for the Bucks than their last matchup. New Orleans came out strong, pushing to a 10-2 lead. Milwaukee is no stranger to being behind and rallying back, and they demonstrated that tonight. They would mount a 8-0 run to tie the game up at 10.

Through the first and third quarters, we saw a total of 19 lead changes, and 7 ties. Those numbers indicate it was a close hard fought battle.

Khris Middleton, who was non-existent in the first half of the season, has come alive as of late. He has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight games, and tonight put up 25 points. "When we got hit with all those injuries, it gave me an opportunity to step up, and I believe my numbers tell you that I did" said Middleton after the game. He also had 5 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds, a season high.

O.J. Mayo played well, dishing out 10 assists as well as scoring 24 points. He didn't shoot well (9-24) but made up for it on the defensive end snagging 4 steals.

Heading into the fourth, the Bucks lead 86-80. New Orleans wouldn't go away quietly, starting the quarter with a 7-0 run and taking the lead. Again, we saw a many lead changes, but eventually, Milwaukee got hot and stretched the lead to 10 points.

Anthony Davis was taken out of the game completely by the Greek Freak. He scored a mere 10 points and had 8 rebounds.

Hot shooting late, and strong defense helped Milwaukee secure the win, 112-104.

The Bucks take on the San Antonio Spurs (51-15) who have the best record in the NBA and have topped the Power Rankings 15 weeks in a row. It will be a challenge, but this Bucks team hasn't backed down from one yet.

Bucks Continue Strong Play In Win Over Spurs

Larry Sanders throws down the hammer

Milwaukee, WI -- If anyone told me that the Bucks would be on a 7-game winning streak, beating New Orleans(x2), Memphis, and San Antonio along the way, I would've spit out my soda, laughed in their face, and spit soda at them again. But low and behold, it has happened.

Sitting at a dismal 27-34 two weeks ago, Milwaukee has managed to get their record to .500 for the first time since December.

It is hard to point to one player though, as everyone on the team has stepped up. Tonight we saw some great basketball a the Bucks had five in double figures scoring, and two in double figures rebounding.

Larry Sanders pulled down a career high 24 boards as he dominated the glass. "Watching the team struggle without us injured guys out there really hurt. I'm ready to turn it around and earn that playoff spot" said Sanders after the game.

This game was no cake walk. San Antonio came out strong, but Milwaukee answered. The Greek Freak played a great game scoring 20 and grabbing 8 boards. He had a strong first half, along with MCW.

Carter-Williams scored 12 of his 16 in the first quarter, helping the Bucks stay in the game.

The second half was a different story than the first. Khris Middleton, who was 0-4 from the field, came out of nowhere to knock down four three pointers on his way to 16 points for the game, all in the second half.

Nerlens Noel seems to have healed fully after his torn calf muscle. He grabbed 10 boards in the game.

San Antonio seemed off tonight. Given their record of 51-16, they don't have many off nights. They barely got Duncan involved as he only took 9 shots.

In the end, Milwaukee pulled away with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Spurs 19-28 to finish the game strong with a score of 90-103.

Milwaukee looks to continue it's streak against Brooklyn (30-37) this Friday, March 20th.

Michael Carter-Williams, good/bad deal?

Milwaukee, WI -- Many people questioned the acquisition of Michael Carter-Williams. They look at the situation as if it is merely black and white. But in basketball negotiations, there is most definitely a gray area.

With Knight, that gray area was his desire to be payed the big bucks. There is no doubt he had promise and is an offensive force. The question remains, would he have been worth a big multi-million dollar contract on a team still dealing with Mayo's 8M per year and Sanders' 11M per year? Tough question to answer.

The way we see it, is that Knight provided immediate offense and flare. But as an overall player, Carter-Williams gives you a little bit of everything.

Knight was averaging 20 PPG, 6 APG, 3 RPG, 1.5 SPG, and 3.5 TOPG. Overall, those are solid numbers for a third year point guard. One glaring issue was his turnover numbers. He wasn't a great game manager and according to sources, often caused issues in the locker room. With all that to consider, he was asking for roughly $9-10M/year.

Micheal Carter-Williams on the other hand, was playing in a rough situation. He was on a tanking team that is nowhere near being relevant. While he did have decent numbers, it seemed they were merely average because, well, his team mates were average.

Before being traded, MCW averaged 12 PPG, 5 APG, 5 RPG, 1.9 SPG, and 2.1 TOPG. He was shooting merely 41% from the field, and was not happy. Below, we have an illustration of his numbers since joining Milwaukee.

As you can see, his numbers have either improved, or stayed roughly the same. He is now shooting 47%, and his assist numbers are way up. It is safe to say, that MCW was hindered by the level of play around him.

He seems happy to be in Milwaukee, and his contract maxes out at $3.18M in 2017. So, since the trade, the Bucks have improved their record, saved money, and have a point guard who seems to be only getting better with each game.

I'd say it's safe to say that this was a solid deal.
