Bulls Put Up A Fight, But Lose 109-100 To The Cavs
Cleveland, OH - Another playoff team, another loss. The Bulls just can't seem to get over the hump and beat the teams ahead of them in the standings. They've had the luxury of beating up on the weaker teams in the league over the last month, but this past week they have been brought back down to Earth.

Lebron James disposed of his rivals from Chicago, finishing with 25 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Kyrie Irving had himself a big night with 24 points and seven assists, and doing a relatively good job shutting down Derrick Rose. Rose was held to just two points during the first half, but was able to get going a little after the break, finishing with 16 points.

Jimmy Butler did his best to carry the Bulls offensively, scoring 24 points, but shouldering the weight of the offense as well as defending Lebron is no easy task. Jimmy, along with the rest of the team, lost their steam in the fourth quarter and were unable to close the gap.

"That's a tough loss," Butler said afterwards. "I thought we had them. We played well for the most part, but it's clear that we need to play a near perfect game to beat a team like that. We're half way through the season and we're still struggling. We need to be better."

Perhaps the most disappointing thing about this season is that the Bulls have been completely happy for every game. They have yet to have a player miss a game due to injury, and yet they sit at 22-21. They face the Heat Monday night and then they head out West for a seven game road trip then come home to face the Hawks before the All Star Break.

Wade + Rose.jpg

Breaking News: Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade Spotted At Dinner
Chicago, IL - There are reports coming out that Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade were spotted at Del Frisco's Sunday night before the Heat and Bulls face off tomorrow night.

While this might be two Chicagoans catching up in late January, my suspicion is that Derrick brought up a possible homecoming for DWade. Wade is from Chicago and has been rumored to come to the Bulls in the past, but it never panned out. This would be a great fit for the Bulls and would give them the most dangerous team in the open court with Wade, Rose and Jimmy Butler all pushing the ball up the court. Derrick in the past has refused to "recruit" other players to come join him, but he might be turning the corner after seeing how Lebron has had success over the last 6 years. Rose's window for a championship might be closing, especially if his health continues to be an issue, so he might be making a hard push this off season.

Wade may have different thoughts about leaving his long time home, but he might consider the move. Chicago, after all, is his original home, and with Hassan Whiteside looking for a big contract this off season, the Heat might be willing to part with the aging star. The Heat currently sit at second in the East, but no one has proven to be a contender alongside the Cavs. This season may be a wash for the rest of the Eastern Conference.

This is all just speculation and the likelihood of Wade ending up in Chicago is minimal, but it's fun to imagine, isn't it?

Rose, Butler Burn Heat, Bulls Win 103-96
Chicago, IL - For the first time in what seems like ages, the three best players in a Chicago uniform had big games. Jimmy Butler finished with 25 points, four rebounds, and six assists, Derrick Rose chalked up 23 points and five assists, and Pau Gasol had 19 points and six rebounds.

The Bulls' two backcourt stars got off to a quick start, combining to score 15 of the team's first 20 points. They stayed aggressive and looked to attack their man all night long. When those two get it going at the same time this team is tough to beat. Unfortunately it hasn't been the case that often so far this season. Pau Gasol has been solid all season long and it's nice to see him continue that success.

The Heat got big performances from Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire. Bosh finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Stoudemire had himself a throwback game with 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Heat are ahead of the Bulls in the standings but the Bulls looked like the better team tonight. A much needed win after struggling against quality opponenets last week.

The Bulls start their longest road trip of the season on Thursday. Seven Games. First stop. LA for a back to back witht the Lakers and Clippers.

Pau Leads Bulls Passed Old Team, Beat Lakers 110-98
Los Angeles, CA - This was supposed to be the last time the Bulls faced Kobe Bryant at the Staples Center, but his season ending injury ruined that moment. Instead Pau Gasol had to beat up on his former team with his good friend watching on the sideline.

Gasol finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds and shot several winks over to Bryant as he dominated the Lakers' frontcourt. Jimmy Butler added 20 points and Lance Stephenson chipped in 17 points off the bench.

"It's great to start this road trip with a win like that," Pau said afterwards. None of the Bulls' starters played a minute in the fourth quarter. "They are obviously rebuilding, but they have some talent that I think they can develop. It was great to have a chance to speak with Kobe and he took me out to dinner last night. The game of basketball is really going to miss him."

The All-Star lineups were announced tonight before the game and not a single Bull was selected. Butler was the only one that could be considered a snub, as he's averaging a career high in points at 20.3, but the team's underachieving pretty much guaranteed that the Bulls wouldn't have someone selected.

Tempers flared briefly in the locker room when Butler and Derrick Rose found out about their exclusion from the festivity-filled weekend. Reports indicate that they got into an argument about how they are "taking shots" from one another. The brotherly dispute was quickly resolved and they were seen leaving the arena together.

The last thing this Bulls' team needs is an internal struggle for power.

Around The League
Chicago, IL - The Bulls were 2-0 this week with wins over the Heat and Lakers. Although there were only two games, the Bulls were in the headlines often - first because of a dinner potentially regarding Dwyane Wade's free agency, and again because of a brief tussle between Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose. Derrick has since said that "Jimmy and I are like brothers. I love that dude."

In Other News:

-The All Star teams were announced - the roster is below

-The Clippers traded Deandre Jordan and a 2016 first round pick for Brook Lopez. The Clippers realize that their window for a championship might be closing, and the feuding between Chris Paul and DJ became too much. Deandre was reported as "done" with the Clippers. Brook Lopez is bringing his 19 points and eight rebounds to LA and presents a low post threat that Jordan has yet to develop. Jordan will also be presented the challenge of being "The Man" in Brooklyn, something that many folks doubt he can handle.

-The Spurs traded veteran big man Boris Diaw to the Pacers for ex-Spur George Hill. In a season where the Pacers struggling to stay relevant, they dump Hill's salary for the team friendly salary of Diaw, who is also expecting to mentor the young Myles Turner.

Bulls Can't Take Care Of The Ball, Lose 111-103 To Clippers
Los Angeles, CA - What do you do when you have a game on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles? You go out on Saturday night. And it was pretty evident from the tip that the Bulls had a great time the night before at LA clubs. They got off to a slow start and were never able to recover.

Jimmy Butler tried to carry his team all night, but other than his buddy Derrick Rose, there wasn't much help. Butler played one of his best games of the season and finished with 33 points on 13-15 shooting. Rose, who had a poor shooting game (4-15), was in attack mode all night and finished with 18 points thanks to a 10-10 mark from the free throw line.

Chris Paul led the Clippers with 15 points and 12 assists, while high-flyer Blake Griffin finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Former Bull Taj Gibson had nine points and eight rebounds in his first game against his old team. He has fit in nicely and is a big reason why Doc Rivers felt it wasn't a terrible loss to part ways with Deandre Jordan.

Jordan was averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks per game before he was sent to Brooklyn. Taj has been giving the Clippers nine points and nine rebounds off the bench since his arrival, which isn't a significant dip from Jordan's numbers. Not only are they experiencing little to no drop off statistically, but they are adding the 17 points and nine rebounds that Brook Lopez brought to LA.

"It's disappointing with an effort like that," Jimmy said after the game. "I know it's LA and it's tempting to have a good time and stay out late, but guys have to be smart. Ball comes first. It was great to see Taj, but we have to be rested up for the game."

The Bulls looked lazy from the start of the game, turning the ball over nine times in the first half. The Bulls are currently a game behind the Knicks for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, and home court advantage for the first round would be big for this team. They can't afford to have days like these. It's okay to lose games to the better teams in the league, but not because of effort. No game should be lost because of effort.

The Bulls fly to Utah tonight to take on the Jazz tomorrow. The Jazz are a young team that was looking to make the playoffs, or at least be in the hunt, but to this point they have disappointed. Hopefully the Bulls take care of business and head to Sacramento with a 2-1 record on this road trip.

Bulls Escape In Utah, 97-95
Salt Lake City, UT - An 11 point lead heading into the fourth quarter quickly evaporated before their eyes. The Bulls stopped moving without the ball, stopped passing, and started playing isolation basketball. All the momentum was with the Jazz, but the day was saved by none other than Derrick Rose.

Rose came off a ball screen and hit a 18-foot step back jump shot from the wing to give the Bulls the lead with 0.5 seconds left. Struggling for the first three quarters, Rose did not give up on his offense and scored 12 of his 23 points in the final quarter.

"Jimmy told me to go win the game," Rose nodded in Butler's direction after the game. "So that's what I did. Pau set me a good screen and I had just enough space to get the shot off. I'm back to the player I was. I can do the things I used to. I'm still that guy. But we have the players around me where I don't need to be."

Pau Gasol had a monsterous game - 27 points, inlcuding 2-2 from three, and 10 rebounds. Gasol also did a great job neutralizing Jazz big man Rudy Gobert. Gobert was held to just one point in 10 minutes as he spent most of his night on the bench because of foul trouble. Gasol used his savvy offensive repertoire to get Gobert off his feet trying to block shots.

The Bulls have a few days off before heading to Sacramento.
