Ocana Headed to Los Angeles

The Baltimore Bullets announced today that they sent forward Xavi Ocana and their second-round pick for this year to the Lakers for a 2018 lottery-protected first-round pick and undrafted rookie Andrej Javorsek. Ocana gives Los Angeles a bonafide sharpshooter off the bench, and Baltimore (15-42) continues to build for the future.

Re: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

2017 Offseason: What's Next for Baltimore?

Clockwise from top left: Sean Barkley, Abioye Turay, Dante Phillips, Andrej Javorsek

The Baltimore Bullets had a first year like many expected: Bad. This offseason is their first full offseason and gives them a chance to really start to form an identity moving forward. Here, we will outline the top three keys to a successful offseason for the Bullets.

Key #1: Draft the right guy

It sounds so simple, but it really is not. The Bullets will be looking to draft a player that is both immensely talented and fits into the mold they formed with this team. Sources tell us that the front office is really high on two overseas prospects, Abioye Turay and Sean Barkley. These guys are both good players with high upside, but no immediate impact. Neither will be eligible to start the season in the NBA. Other top guys on the board are Providence big man Brennan O'Keiffer, Kentucky's Griffey twins (Antonio and Cameron), and a few others. There are also rumors that they could move down in the draft to try and pick up more help. This will all depend on how the lottery goes, but after finishing with the worst record in the league last year (19-63), odds are that they will end up in the top three.

Key #2: Make a decision at power forward

Dante Phillips was reliable last year, if not average. He averaged 10.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, all while starting 77 games in his fifth year in the league. The problem is that he has always hovered around that level, and will likely never surpass it. On the other hand, undrafted rookie Andrej Javorsek was picked up in a mid-season trade with Los Angeles and provided a major spark off the bench all season for Baltimore. Javorsek averaged 9.5 points in only 16.6 minutes per game, which means he averages 20.5 points per 36 minutes. That is almost six points more than Phillips, and tied with star Darmani White for best on the team. This is all important because both contracts are up, and the Bullets will likely only bring one back on a multi-year deal. If you ask me, I go with the younger Javorsek and bring in a veteran on a short deal to split time with him. Phillips is solid, but Javorsek is exciting, and for a team that probably still won't be a playoff team this year, they could use some excitement.

Key #3: Improve free throw shooting

This one IS simple. The Bullets were 31st in the league in free throw percentage last year, shooting a horrid 70.8 percent as a team. No doubt, this was brought down by Darmani White's ridiculous 54.1% shooting, but the rest of the team must improve. Only four players on this team shot above 80%, and only one, Keondra Hunter, was a starter.

2017 Offseason: Owners Approve Change to Playoff Seeding

At this past weekend's NBA owner meetings, five rule changes were proposed, and one was approved. Going forward, the top three seeds for each division in the playoffs will be determined by division winners, from best record to worst. This will add an interesting dimension to division play, especially later in the season.
