Uh oh ... looks like Melo heard all the trade talk. Steve Mills and Phil are clearly butting heads, too ... looks like there are some changes coming in New York. It'll be interesting to see what the Knicks do, especially since a certain Cavalier has expressed wishes IRL to head there.
Yeah, I've been writing up trades and thinking what would be the most realistic/best one to pull, but with a number of trade rumors going around IRL, I am just wondering when to pull the trigger....
Melo puts on a show against Jazz December 11, 2017
Carmelo Anthony was on another level.
Melo kept pushing the tempo and getting touches. Utah kept throwing all kinds of defenses, with no success at all. At the end of the game, Anthony finished with 30, but the rest of the team also chipped in. Most notably, both Noah and Ntilikina had a fantastic P&R, boosting up their numbers and adding to the team immensely.
Coach Hornacek had no words about Carmelo. "If you let the best scorer in the league do his thing, obviously, what do you think is going to happen?"
For the Jazz, there weren't many high points, but the most notable one was the rookie Tony Bradley, who managed to score his first double-double.
The Jazz will face the Raptors next game, while New York goes against Dallas.
Stars vs stars as New York takes the W December 14, 2017
A game which was a classic case of stardom-delivery.
The Knicks were in full force as both Porzingis and Anthony came to play. While Carmelo carried the team through three quarters, Porzingis made sure to seal the deal in the fourth, getting more easy looks and easier buckets.
That didn't, however, stop with those players. Tim Hardaway was crucial from deep, while Frank Ntilikina succeeded with getting a double-double - first in his career. The rookie from France said that it was the coaching staff who gave him the motivation. "They told me to look for my shot more, play my own game. I still want to pass the ball but it feels nice scoring."
For the Celtics, it was a miserable night for them. Both IT and Hayward finished with 10 points.Luckily, the rookie, Jayson Tatum stepped up with 21 of his own, yet coach Brad Stevens demands more from everybody. "The only positive to täke away from this game is from Jayson [Tatum]. Rest of it was really poor."
The Knicks will play against the Timberwolves in their next game, while the Celtics host the Raptors.
Tough loss against the Wolves, but the team has quite a bit more developed talent at this point.
Boston really struggled, and I was surprised that Tatum was killing it. I feel Hayward can be quite hit and miss in 2k.
Our first game of the season was against the Wolves, and they are a tough team to beat. The sim engine, however, is really weird since our team is never consistent. Some nights, Melo goes for 27 and we lose, others if you look, he goes for like 10 and we win. Never know about that.
Last game of the month (Christmas Special!) and then the monthly recap!
[10-11] New York Knicks @ Sacramento Kings [10-12]
Christmas Party in Sacramento for the Knicks December 24, 2017
Merry Christmas everybody!
Well, it was Merry for some of us. While Sacramento had to host the Knicks, the fans were hoping for a Christmas miracle, yet New York was up by 15 already in the first quarter.
You couldn't really point the finger at one player carrying the load, as the Knicks had a great all-around team performance. However, the shooting from deep for the Knicks was impressive - the team finished with a 42% from three.
For the Kings, it has been a good start for the season, as many of people wouldn't have held them near .500 at this point of the season. However, injuries have hampered them lately, since both Randolph and Bogdanovic had to sit out with ankle sprains. Still, Papagiannis was a surprising factor this game, with his first double-double of the season.
The Knicks will play their last game of the month against the Miami Heat, while the Kings will go against the Raptors.
In the East, Kemba Walker has earned the honors of the best player of the month. While Charlotte has dropped a spot in the table, their rise has been quite surprising, and Walker has been the man leading the charge for them. One of his bigger performances came in a win against Golden State - a 29 point, 9 assist game. He also scored over 30 twice - once against the Nets, once against the Pacers.
James Harden was the best player in the West. The Houston Rockets dominance still grows strong, as they look like the secured top seed so far. And Harden is leading the pack. The man had 5 games over 30 points this month, 6 games with a double-double, and two games with a triple-double!
2. Rookies of the month
While the best players of the month are different from last month, the rookies are also new.
Frank Ntilikina has won the fans in New York and also the reward. The rookie has made an insane jump, with being in the top 5 in the league in both assists and steals. He also had a 15 assist game against the Jazz, and his first double-double against the Celtics (11 points, 11 assists).
And the other rookie is the biggest show in Los Angeles, according to his father's words. Lonzo Ball has been the head of the show with the Lakers still fighting for the playoff spot. Second in the rookies in assists, Ball has been on fire as his team went on a winning streak of 7, including a 20 point game against the Rockets.
3. Up-and-up!
Not much has changed in the East - the top 4 still is the same from, while the bottom 4 have shuffled around a bit, notably Wizards dropping out, Celtics dropping a few spots, Bulls getting the 8th spot, while the Knicks rising a tad.
However, in the West, two teams have made leaps. First, the Timberwolves have soared into the third spot from the bottom of the playoff teams, as they finished the month with 6 wins in a row. The young core plus Butler have clicked, making the Wolves a difficult team to face.
A bigger jump into the top 8 comes from Oklahoma, who was struggling in the start. However, as they have also won their last 6 in a row, Westbrook and George have pulled their way. Coach Donovan says that these two are quite a task to handle. "I know there is such a long way to go, but I feel like we are clicking now."
4. Great Trade for both teams?
We have been talking about the Houston Rockets way too much, and it makes sense - top of the West by a long shot, Harden leads the league in scoring while Paul is pulling the strings.
But, let's be real here, nobody expected the Clippers to be second in the league. Griffin has stepped up to the plate (averaging 19-9) while rest of the team has been carrying their load - Jordan is one of the better rebounders in the league, Williams is an offensive load to handle off the bench, while Beverley is one of the better defenders statistically.
It is still early to tell, but it does seem this trade has worked out for both of these teams.
