New Look Heat Try to Shrug Off Disappointing Exit

Miami - We're about one calendar year removed from Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat shocking the NBA world, by making it all the way to the NBA Finals, and taking the Lakers six games before finally succumbing to injuries, and falling in the NBA finals. Then for the second straight season the Heat would get bounced again by the eventual champs, but in much less ceremonial fashion, a four game sweep that was never close after game 1. Miami spent the off-season re-tooling their roster, after pretty much running back the same team that made the finals run. Kyle Lowry, was acquired in a sign, and trade to stabilize the offense, while P.J. Tucker, and Markieff Morris were brought in to add some toughness, and bodies to throw at some of the big men in the East. The Heat hope it's enough to compete for another Finals, and perhaps bring another trophy home to South Beach come June.

OPENING NIGHT

For the first time in two years, the NBA was able to open the season in front of fully packed arenas. After COVID restrictions limited attendance for much of the 2020-2021 season, 2021-2022 looks to finally return the league to normal. It started in Milwaukee where Bucks fans got to see their team raise the championship banner they've been desperately waiting for, while the quest for an 18th banner started across the country in Los Angeles. Will these be the two teams duking it out come June? Or will others look to crash the post season party out of nowhere, much like the Phoenix Suns were able to do last year?

This season has already started out with it's fair share of drama. Kyrie Irving as of now will not be participating in any games, or practices with the team due to Brooklyn's COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates. This decision will no doubt drastically affect the Nets title hopes if nothing resolves itself during the season. Check back here for all of the on, and off the court drama throughout the season.

Preview vs. Milwaukee

Miami - One of four teams left who have yet to make their debut this season, the Miami Heat will finally take the floor at the newly named FTX Arena to take on the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks got their season started on Tuesday with a 114-113 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, and will be looking to continue their title defense by knocking off another east contender early in the season. Miami meanwhile seeks revenge on the team that swept them right out of the playoffs in the first round back in May. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM, and the game will be televised nationally on NBA-TV.

Nuggets' Barton Suspended 25 Games

Denver - On Wednesday the NBA announced that Nuggets guard Will Barton would be suspended 25 games for failing the leagues substance abuse policy. Barton figured to be a part of the Nuggets starting rotation, and with Jamal Murray out with an ACL tear, depth is now a major concern for the Nuggets in the backcourt. The earliest Barton would be eligible to return is the December 11th game vs. the San Antonio Spurs.

Wizards' Harrell to Miss 4-6 Months

Washington - Wizards center Montrezl Harrell left Wednesday's game against the Toronto Raptors with an apparent knee injury. MRI Results revealed some cartilage damage from a dislocated patella, and Harrell looks to miss a majority, if not the entire season with the injury. Harrell was a key piece in the Russell Westbrook trade, and looked to be a major contributor off the bench this season, but now the Wizards will be looking for more front court depth as a result of this injury.

Heat Fall in Opener

Giannis and the Bucks look primed to defend their NBA Championship

Miami - Khris Middleton had 32 points, and Giannis added 26 as the Milwaukee Bucks continued their recent dominance over the Miami Heat 112-98 on Thursday. That made it five in a row for the Bucks over Miami going back to last year's playoffs where Milwaukee swept the Heat and sent them home early. Jimmy Butler had 26 to lead Miami in the loss. Milwaukee was able to stretch their advantage at the three point line where the shot 18-36 on the night. Splitting the Miami zone for open looks all evening long. Jimmy Butler was finally able to get it going in the fourth, where he scored 16 of his 26 points, but it was too little too late by that time for the Heat. Miami's next game will be Saturday in Indiana.
