So I just played NBA Live 10 online against this guy. I was the Thunder, he was, I'll let you guess 1 of 4 teams... Give up? He was the Cavs. I bet you're shocked.
Anyway, the game is a little choppy but, not enough for me to quit. It's only the 4th game I've played online because I was tired of cheesers.
So it's a back and forth game, he held a 5 point lead the entire game. I think it may have gotten to 12 in the 1st half. But, I figured my bball skills and stick skills would bring me back. 4 qtr only down 2, yea, I was right.
So it's still an up and down game also, to my very much surprise a really well played game. No cheese coming his way. Great stuff so far. Anyway, I find myself down 4 with 1 min left. Durant and Harden are carrying me. The accounted for 41 of my 52 points. Now, up until this point LJames hasn't done anything. Well the final 1 min was a different story. James scored the last 9 points (ended up with 17) and I didn't have an answer.
I lost 58-52 and here's the main point. I had a blast! I'm not sure where I turned the corner but, I was ok with it not playing "SIM" ball. What happened to me? Was I getting to old to want to play and actually sim bball game? Running plays, subbing in and out, worrying about fouls, and who to double and should I play him tight or deny him the ball.
I'm getting married next July, she wants to start a family, I work way to much and I have to work out twice as hard now because I'm getting older.
Did I turn the corner to the "fun" zone? Don't get me wrong, I've had a couple of sim games where it was a blast. But, sometimes people get wrapped up in whether you have to run plays, set up your d, double him, play him tight, etc... All that real bball stuff. I guess I'm getting to the point where I just want to have fun.
What about you? If you're not over 30 or don't have a fiance/married then you can't feel what I'm talking about. But, what do you guys think? I'm very interested to see if I'm in the minority here.
You know the deal.

I'm pushing 40 now, and I will admit there are some games that I don't put any thought into when playing. I keep 3 stacks of games. The Games I'm currently solving playing or constantly playing (usually 3 or 4), the games to play queue (20 in the queue), and the games that require no thought pile (usually 4 or 5).
Nothing wrong with wanting to just play a game man, nothing at all, and your preferences are yours alone, making them neither right or wrong. I have Lego's Batman, Madden 10 (after I adjust sliders, and Offline play only), the Bigs 2, and Burnout Paradise as my no thought games. I can pick these games up and play a game anywhere from 5 minutes (Lego's Batman), to 15 minutes (Burnout Paradise), to 30 minutes (Bigs 2), to 45 minutes to 1 hour (Madden 10). I try to keep a spectrum of games. Probably a couple others I left out, but I'm too lazy to get up and check. heh Both congrats and condolences on the marriage. It's a proven fact that married men live longer, it's also a proven fact they are more willing to die. I wouldn't share that factoid with the wife to be though. |

I know what you are saying man. I played my first game of Madden online last night. It was an unranked game, and I had a good time though. Even though dude was cheesing.

I feel you bro. I will be 29 next month, own a smalll business, been married 5 years, with 3 boys-as a result the wii gets the majority of play vs my ps3. I like to keep my ps3 rotation to 4 games at a time: 2 sports, 1 fighting, 1 adventure. Like I said earlier, my play time is limited to about 6 hours a week weekend nights), but the good news is your 4 games are slow to age. Congrats on the fiance. The bible says, "a man that finds a wife, finds a good thing."

Man, I am right there with you. Mid 30's here. I've been on this path for the last couple of years. I just haven't been as picky about some things in these games as others have. Given my other interests and the fact that I've recently gotten engaged I'm sure this trend will continue. The funny thing is that it's not just bball though. I'm finding this to be true for many sports games. Don't get me wrong, I still know a crappy game when I see it but despite some of the issues with Live and NCAA 10 I've enjoyed them so far.

I play more of a sim style w/ football games. In basketball, I do whatever the other guy is doing. If he's sim ballin', I'll follow suit, otherwise I'm just trying to have fun.

It depends on the sport. With football I refuse to play online. Last time I did the guy never punted and always went for it on 4th down including a 4th and 16 in his own end. He failed to convert and quit. That was not a good experience.
Basketball is a more loose game and I probably wouldn't care as much. |

Taking what someone gives you is the most SIM method of them all, ask any good coach and he will tell you that. If guys are gonna reach and play you close all game it makes sense to run to the basket the whole game, which some will cry that it is cheese. I played B-Ball and pretty well up into high school and even had a pretty good intramural team in college and I must admit I don't get what some call SIM. It's more like they want you to play how they want you to play. To answer the question, I take advantage of what I am given.

I like what I'm hearing. Atleast, I'm not the only one how feels this way. I know, I said if you weren't 30 and over don't respond but, I'm curious to here what you younger guys think about it.
How do you play your sports video game? |

I feel ya man. I don't know if its because I'm getting older, or I'm just getting tired of videogames. I have my sliders set to a realistic setting, but I don't really care so much anymore if I win. As long as I give a good effort, I'm ok. I could care less about ranking up in a video game. I have more important things to deal with. BTW, I'm 28.

There is nothing wrong with you, I actually think you played sim without you knowing it. Show me a coach who does not feed the Ball to a hot hand and I will Show you STAN VAN GUNDY LOL. But Life is too Short have fun, these guys get bent out of shape over a videogame anyway. I'm going to be 30 in october of this year.
