I've lessoned my "rematch would be more of the same" stance since my initial reactions after the fight. I think Tyson got too confident in those early middle rounds and thought he was on his way to a boxing masterclass and got caught being lazy. If Fury is all business and stops peacocking he can and should win a rematch.

Unfortunately I expect a rematch to have a lot more hugging and Fury leaning on Usyk because that is the winning strategy; it just makes for a dull fight.

Round 8 -- This was the round that decided the fight. Yes the excitement happened in 9, but this round planted that seed. This was when Usyk solved the Fury equation.

Round 9 -- Been a while since I've seen someone that hurt. Fury was literally moving on instinct alone.

Round 10 -- I felt like Usyk was flirting with disaster by not being aggressive here.

The reason I say Usyk's original strategy wasn't going to work -- yes he pressured Fury in the sense of moving forward and staying in front of him, but he was boxing very conservatively. Mostly just jab potshots at the body or trying to outbox Fury. But Usyk realized he was getting hit more often and harder by playing it safe. Tyson's accuracy, hand speed, and anticipation are underrated. Tyson was in the zone and knew just when to throw that uppercut and it was winning him the fight.

But then Usyk realized what many people know -- Tyson is very poor defensively. So Usyk changed it up and started lunging. He lunged forward with a opening shot to the body and then followed with what is typically a very sloppy overhand to the head. But Tyson's defense being what it is those overhands landed time and time again.

So perhaps surprisingly the winning tactic wasn't for Usyk to outbox or outsmart Fury. It was to lunge forward and head hunt. Tyson's size was too great for Usyk to overcome by standing in the pocket and trying to outbox him.

(entirely possible this was the original strategy and Usyk came in with the idea of laying back in the first half to win the fight in the second half)

I feel like the rematch would go the same way. Almost like Fury vs Wilder but Fury is in the opposite role. Fury is too old and advanced as a fighter to change his habit of trying to defend with outstretched arms. Its like instinct at this point so his head will always be exposed.

If we had another referee for this bout, Usyk would've got a knockout victory.

Ryan Garcia has been suspended one year by the New York State Athletic Commission, sources tell ESPN, while his decision victory over Devin Haney has been overturned to a no contest following positive tests for the PED ostarine.

Garcia also forfeited $1 million to Golden Boy and was fined $10,000 by the commission.

"I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process," Haney, who is once again undefeated, told ESPN on Thursday. "The facts are the facts and I wasn't on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It's all part of my story and it's only going to make me better. I look to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what's next.

"I'm a clean athlete and boxing is a brutal sport where one fight can literally change your life. I think it important for fighters to be clean and I want to become an advocate for clean athletes for my experience in this situation."

Garcia's suspension was first reported by Dan Rafael.

I am disgusted he didnt get more than that. Using PEDs in boxing especially ones that help you build muscle mass endurance and power can get someone killed in the ring. It gives a distinct advantage in taking a punch from a weight drained fighter and allows a boxer to recover faster wheras itherwise he should be getting tired. No matter the verdict its a fact that ostarine has to be cycled to get caught. Haney took a career changing life and career altering beating he will not recover from!! I hate cheaters with a passion!!

I'm surprised that I will get to see Beterbiev vs Bivol on ESPN+ (when I subscribe). Apparently this is for the United States only, and does not include any of the undercard.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic

I don't even know where to watch boxing any more. Between HBO and Showtime, that used to cover 90% of the relevant fights, but now I have no idea where to even find fights. And furthermore, I find that I don't care. Which is sad, because I've always loved boxing, but I'm sort of at the end of my rope with the sport.
