Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Well pre-season is over and we went 2-2. We played well in the 2nd game and the 4th. I think the defense is still working on learning the playbook so there is some broken coverage and busted plays. Here is the final roster and the schedule. I will play the games in bold because the owner wants me to win them so if I lose it will be my fault or they are games that I dont want give to the ai. The owner expects me to finish below .500 so I guess he still realizes we are a work in progress.

Wk 1 (9-6-09) Tenn
Wk 2 (9-13-09) Broncos
Wk 3 (9-20-09) Bengals
Wk 4 Bye crappy week for a bye
Wk 5 (10-4-09) Lions
Wk 6 (10-11-09) Jets
Wk 7 (10-18-09) Ravens
Wk 8 (10-25-09) Steelers
Wk 9 (11-1-09) Packers
Wk 10 (11-8-09) Bengals
Wk 11 (11-15-09) Vikings
Wk 12 (11-22-09) Ravens
Wk 13 (11-29-09) Bears
Wk 14 (12-6-09) Chiefs
Wk 15 (12-13-09) Chargers
Wk 16 (12-19-09) Steelers
Wk 17 (12-27-09) Raiders

Also...here are the stats for last season. I did sim after about week 6 but this shows where we are now.
Anderson: 310-498 62% 4119 yards 32 TDs 19 INTs
Lewis: 329 carries, 1355 yrds 17 TDs, 2 Fum, 4.1 yrds per carry
Edwards: 100 Catches, 1435 yrds, 14.3 yrds per catch, 18 drops
Winslow: 4 catches, 48 yards, was injured most of the season
Kerney: 52 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 Sacks, 14 QB hurries
Bake: 32 tackles, 5 TFL, 4 Sacks, 38 QB hurries
Wright: 3 INTs
Mcdonald: 50 tackles, 3 INTs
Pool: 4 INTs
Sanders: 59 tackles, 6 INTs
Serna: 22/29 FGs, 46/46 xps

The owner wants me to re-sign Edwards. I will probably trade him since his contract is already 8.9 m and I have a good receiver in Addis to take his place.
I like the look of this draft preview. So we will see how this season goes..

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Nashville TN: The Browns came to town for their match-up with the Tennessee Titans feeling that things were starting to come together for the team The results of the game showed this may very well be true. The Browns used a steady dose of HB Lewis to run to a victory over the home team, 21-6. The offensive line gave up 2 sacks of QB Anderson, but both were given up by back-up C Wilkerson because starting C Fraley did not play due an injured leg. But even though they gave up these 2 sacks, they opened holes for Lewis and gave QB Anderson enough time to find his receivers. When Coach Hayes was asked about the team's performance in the game he replied, "The team played very smart today. We committed no penalites today and had only 1 turnover. I am still not happy about the defensive play though. We did not get any sacks or INTs today. But we were playing against Vince Young and he is one of the best scramblers I think we will see this year."

Game Stats:
Anderson: 13-24, 160 yrds, 3 TDs 0 INTS
Lewis: 23 carries, 116 yards, 0 TDs, 1 Fum
Edwards: 5-55, 2 TDs
Wilson: 3-31, 0 TDs
Addis: 2-31, 0 TDs
Lewis: 1-23, 0 TDs
Gado: 1-6, 1 TD
Horton: 1-12, 0 TD
TITANS
Young: 13-22, 125 yrds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Henry: 12 carries 22 yrds
Faulk: 7 carries, 11 yrds
Young: 6 carries, 26 yrds
Gage: 4-37, 1 TD
Bruce: 4-43, 0 TD
Troupe: 3-20, 0 TD
Chamber: 1-20, 0 TD

Injury Update
ROLB Wimbley: Thigh Bruise - 4-5 weeks
DT Williams: Bruised Elbow - 4 days
HB Green: Broken Wrist - 2-3 weeks

The Browns will travel to Denver next week to take on the Broncos.

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Week 2 Update: The Browns continued their good start to the season by going to Denver and beating the Broncos 26-7. The defense is probably the biggest surprise of this team. They are not putting up impressive numbers individually, but they seem to play well together, and control the game. The defense recorded their first sack with Kerney breaking through to take down QB Cutler for a 9 yard loss. SS Sanders got the first INT of the season for the Browns as he broke in front of a Cutler pass late in the 3rd Quarter to stop a drive on the Browns 37 yard line. The defense also got their first Safety in over 3 years when they tackled Broncos RB Young in the end zone after a deep Zastudil punt in the 3rd Quarter that pinned the Broncos inside the 3 yard line. Coach Hayes had to admit the defense has really stepped up its game and hopes to see this continue. He did state that he is concerned about the number of passes his star receiver has dropped. This is fueling the potential trade rumors for WR Edwards.

The Browns will host cross-state rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday in their home opener.

Game Stats
Browns
Anderson: 19-24, 190 yrds, 2 TDs, 0 INTs
Lewis: 13 carries, 64 yrds, 1 TD, left the game in the 4th Quarter with an injury
Gado: 13 carries, 38 yards
Winslow: 8 - 38 yrds
Edwards: 7 - 69 yrds, 2 drops
Addis: 4 - 31 yrds, 2 TDs
Broncos
Cutler: 11-20, 198 yrds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Young: 18 carries, 27 yrds
Henry: 3 - 64 yrds
Graham: 3 - 54 yrds, 1 TD
Manningham: 2 - 27 yrds
Scheffler: 1 - 9 yrds
Stokley: 1 - 33 yrds
Marshall: 1 - 11 yrds

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Cleveland OH (Cleveland Browns HQ) The Browns continue to dominate in probably the biggest surprise of this NFL season. The Browns moved to 3-0 and sole possession of the top of the AFC North after beating the Bengals. The Browns controlled this game from the initial kick-off. The final score of 24-14 did not tell the total story of the growth of the defense of this Browns team. The defense has given up a total of 27 points in 3 games and held the opposing teams' ground game to an average of less than 35 yards a game.
DT Williams showed he was healthy now and ready to play by sacking QB Palmer late in the 2nd Quarter causing him to leave the game. He also recorded a sack on back-up QB Carr in the 4th Quarter. OLB Phillips and DE Kerney joined in by each recording a sack of Carr. CB Wright also joined in the defensive play by recording a spectacular INT of a Carr deep pass late in the game.
The Browns are heading in their bye week on a high note and will use the extra time to rest and prepare for Lions.

Game Sats
Browns
Anderson: 18-26, 224 yrds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
Lewis: 19 carries, 132 yrds, 1 TD, 1 Fum
Addis: 4 - 45 yrds, 1 TD
Edwards: 4 - 35, 1 drop
Lewis: 3 - 49, 1 drop
Winslow: 3 - 61, 1 drop
Wilson: 2 - 16, 1 TD
Horton: 2 - 18
Bengals
Palmer: 6-6, 105 yrds, 1 TD (injured)
Carr: 7-17, 158 yrds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Johnson: 15 carries, 24 yrds
Houshmandzadeh: 5 - 103, 1 TD
Johnson: 5 - 104
Walker: 2 -47, 1 TD
McFadden: 1 9

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Cleveland OH (Cleveland Browns HQ) The Browns announced today that in order to make room for a new player they had cut P Zastudil. The Browns then introduced new Punter Vaughn from little known Iona College. The coaches then invited reporters to the practice field to see Vaughn warm up where he kicked 5 punts of over 47 yards. Lets just hope he is as good in the games as he is on the practice field.
The Browns also announced that HB Gado had a cracked bone in his leg and will be placed on IR for the remainder of the season.

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Cleveland OH (Cleveland Browns HQ) The Cleveland Browns continued their impressive run today by beating the Detroit Lions 14-6. This may have been a costly win though because TE Winslow was taken off of the field with an apparent leg injury early in the 2nd Quarter. The defense continued its impressive performance holding Detroit to 57 yards on the ground. This is a major turnaround for a team that struggled to go 7-9 last season. Once again, they didnt record any sacks or INTs, but Coach Hayes said he is still pleased with the unit. "When a team can come together and be 4-0, no matter how it is done, people have to be at least sit up and take notice."

WR Edwards was made inactive for this game due to a nagging right leg injury. It is interesting to see how well they performed in light of the trade rumors circulating about him.

The Browns next face the NY Jets in a Monday night game.

Game Stats
Browns
Anderson: 16-22, 205 yrds, 2 TDs, 1 INT
Lewis: 23 carries, 90 yrds
Addis: 7 catches, 96 yrds, 1 TD, 1 drop
Lewis: 2 catches, 37 yrds
Wilson: 2 - 17, 1 TD
Green: 2 - 12, 1 drop
Winslow: 2 - 36, 1 drop
Horton: 1 - 8
Lions
Gerrard: 8-13, 111 yrds
Bell: 13 carries, 38 yrds, 1 TD, 1 Fum
Watson, 11 carries, 19 yrds
Nix: 4 catches, 74 yrds
Williams: 2 - 13, 1 drop
Lucas: 1 - 13
Sypnewski: 1 - 11

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

Cleveland OH (Cleveland Browns HQ) The Browns today announced they traded WR Edwards to the Eagles for 2010 3rd and 7th Round picks. Edwards had been complaining about his decreasing playing time and the Browns were not very impressed with what they considered his excessive re-signing demands. The Browns signed FA WR Taylor to a 1 year, $900 k deal to fill the roster spot.

TE Winslow has a pulled hamstring and will be sidelined for 4-5 weeks so the Browns signed FA TE Welch to a $290 k deal to fill in for his loss.

The Browns also announce the following new contracts:
WR Taylor: 1.24 m/2 yr, 0 bouns
FB McMurray: 620 k/2 yr, 0 bonus
FS Pool: 8.86/ 6 yr, 1.0 m bonus
P Vaughn: 2.08/ 2 yr, 1.0 m bouns

The Browns have also stated they would like to re-sign OLB Wimbley and as many of the back-ups as possible, but will not entertain excessive contract demands.

Re: Rebuilding the Browns (HC 09)

I have some time on my hands today since it is raining here and I cant work outside...so I have been doing this most of the day. I have went ahead and supersimmed the games and here is the updates:

Week 6 Jets: Won 37-13. The defense is still playing well. I am worried about the sacks though. We are giving up at least 2 a game so I need to look at that. Thank goodness no injuries.

GAME STATS
Browns
Anderson: 14-24, 184 yrds, 4 TDs, 2 INTs
Lewis: 21 carries, 134 yrds
Green: 4 carries, 20 yrds, 1 TD
Wilson: 4 Catches, 59 yrds
Horton: 3 - 20, 2 TDs
Green: 3 - 46
Addis: 2 -23
Lewis: 2 - 36, 2 TDs
Kerney: 2 Sacks
Phillips: 1 Sack
Jets
Clemens: 12-26, 192 yrds, 1 TD
Jones: 22 carries, 46 yrds
Walker: 7 catches, 123 yrds, 1 TD
Smith, 3 - 31
Cotchery: 1 - 30
Beasley: 1 - 8

Week 7: Ravens: Won 37-0. The defense played the best game I think I have ever had. We held them to 85 yrds on offense. I will admit they were pretty depleted with injuries but it still went well. HB Lewis was named Offensive Player of the Week. MLB Davis was injured during the game.

Game Stats
Browns
Anderson: 19-26, 249 yrds, 1 TD
Quinn: 3-3, 33 yrds
Lewis: 24 carries, 76 yrds, 3 TDs
Green: 8 - 22
Vickers: 1 - 8, 1 TD
Wilson: 8 catches, 95 yrds
Lewis: 5 - 88
Addis: 5 - 64, 1 TD
Green: 3 - 28
Horton: 1 - 7
Wimbley: 2 sacks
Lankster, Dotson, Ransom, Bake: 1 sack each
Sanders: 1 INT
Ravens
Webster: 5-19, 58 yrds, 1 INT
Droughns: 5 carries, 19 yrds
Webster: 3 carries, 8 yrds
Williams: 2 catches, 21 yrds
Avery: 2 - 28
Miles: 1 - 9

Week 8: Steelers: Lost 23-16. The team played awful. The o-line was a sieve and they man-handled my defense. Enough said...just crappy play.

Game Stats
Browns
Anderson: 15-29, 200 yrds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks
Lewis: 14 carries, 43 yrds, 1 TD
Addis: 5 catches, 41 yrds, 1 TD
Wilson: 4 - 79
Horton: 3 - 36
Green: 2 - 30
Lewis: 1 - 14
Wimbley: 1 INT

Holmes: 3 catches, 54 yrds
Parker: 2 - 13
Ward: 2 - 26
Miller: 1 - 29
Spaeth: 1 - 8

Week 9: Packers: Won 35-21. We returned to our winning ways but I am still concerned about the defense. I gave up quite a few yards on the ground again. I think part of it is my DTs are hurt...again and I am playing my 3rd string one.

GAME STATS:
Browns
Anderson: 22-25, 252 yrds, 4 TDs, 2 sacks
Lewis: 21 carries, 104 yrds, 1 TD
Addis: 11 catches, 117 yrds, 1 TD
