Re: Rebuilding the Jets - Milkman41's Jets dynasty, starting in 2012

Jets announced 3 more extensions
Next year's roster has begun to shape up, as the Jets announced three more extensions today. Up first was rookie FB Gabe Wilkins, who has primarily backed up FB Carl Stewart (who himself was recently re-signed) this season. Wilkins, who scored his first NFL touchdown against the Bills, has the potential to be a devastating blocker, and will learn behind/team up with Carl Stewart for the foreseeable future. According to sources, Wilkins will earn $480k over the next 2 season, a definite steal.

Up next was DT LeTroy Guion, who is now the only DT signed through next season. Guion is a 4-year veteran, and has played in Philadelphia (2008 - 2010) and Chicago (2011) as well as New York. For his career, he has 67 tackles, 25 for a loss, and 8 sacks. On the season, he has 9 tackles, 4 for a loss, and 1 sack while starting at 4 - 3 DT.

Finally, Trumaine Dutch, who has effectively replaced Vernon Gholston as the 4 - 3 RE/3 - 4 ROLB, was re-signed for a 3 year deal worth $2.4M. Dutch is not a technician, but possesses fantastic speed for a man his size (6'4", 265, 90 speed), and is a good backup player. For the season, he has 4 tackles, a for a loss, and 1 sack, and his career numbers are 15 tackles, 3 for a loss, and 3 sacks.

Re: Rebuilding the Jets - Milkman41's Jets dynasty, starting in 2012

Jets continue to roll, crush Dolphins 35 - 14
The Jets' defense was ferocious today, racking up 4 sacks and 4 interceptions en route to a 35 - 14 rout of their division rivals. QB Anquan Taylor set a career-high with 328 passing yards and 39 attempts, and HB Marquis Shakur had another fine game leading the way on the ground. HB Antonio Usher sat the game out to rest his legs, but he will be back soon to regain his position in the Jets' fearsome running back duo.

Re: Rebuilding the Jets - Milkman41's Jets dynasty, starting in 2012

Jets announce minor roster move
The Jets have announced the release of LOLB Tyler Miles, a 6th round pick in 2012, who had been inactive every game but one this season. In his place, the Jets signed MLB Boof Spurlock, who was subsequently moved to ROLB. Head Coach Steve Caruzzo says Spurlock has solid potential, as he an cover decently well and is a good blitzer. If he can be re-signed for cheap, he may become the Jets' ROLB of the future, as they have no ROLB signed past this season.

Jets continue to roll, win shootout 37 - 32 over Patriots
The Jets continue to be the cinderella story of this season, coming out on top in a shootout 37 - 32. They rode rookie WR Jehuu Bacon's first career 100-yard day, and managed to get a running game going late after starting slow. The defense did its best against the Patriots' high-flying attack, and di okay despite registering only 1 sack (and no interceptions).

Re: Rebuilding the Jets - Milkman41's Jets dynasty, starting in 2012

Season Recap: Halfway Through

Season Recap
It certainly has been a strange and marvelous ride, as the Jets have risen from the cellar to a position it hasn't occupied in a long, long time - first place in the AFC East (and the AFC as a whole)! With a 7 - 1 record, the Jets are riding high, as Coach Caruzzo has coaxed production out of an inexperienced offense and slightly pieced-together defense, and then don't look like they'll stop anytime soon.

Season Stats
Passing:
QB Anquan Taylor - 147/229 (64%), 2015 yards, 17 TD, 14 INT, 91.5 rating

Rushing:
HB Antonio Usher - 98 attempts, 468 yards (4.7 YPC), 5 TD, 2 fumbles, 28 broken tackle, 5 rushes of 20+ yards (long of 30)

HB Bryan Peterson - 50 attempts, 228 yards (4.5 YPC), 0 TD, 2 fumbles, 25 broken tackles, 3 rushes of 20+ yards (long of 35)
FB Carl Stewart - 13 attempts, 63 yards (4.8 YPC), 1 fumble
HB Beau Wilder - 5 attempts, 6 yards (1.2 YPC), 1 fumble

Re: Rebuilding the Jets - Milkman41's Jets dynasty, starting in 2012

Season Recap: Halfway Through

An Early Look at the 2013 Season
Though the 2012 season is far from over, it is interesting to look at how the team projects for 2013 and beyond, especially considering the number of players on 1-year deals on the team. The following players are signed through at least next season:

QB Anquan Taylor
HB Marquis Shakur
HB Antonio Usher (will be an RFA this offseason, virtual lock to return)
FB Carl Stewart
FB Gabe Wilkins
WR Jehuu Bacon
WR Early Doucet
WR Lavernues Coles (will most likely be cut or traded after this season)
WR Warrick Hugo
LT Matt Beckum
LT Sam Baker
LG Sugar Randolph
LG Shane Rosenthal
LG Armond Burt (likely cut after the season)
C Nick Mangold
C Joel Switzer
RG Tony Kabongo
LE Andre Dalembert
RE Trumaine Dutch
RE Eric Baker (not yet signed, but rumored to be very, very, very close to signing a 2-year extension)
DT LeTroy Guion
LOLB Keith Rivers
MLB David Harris
MLB Dan Connor
MLB Renardo Wiley (could be cut)
CB Darrelle Revis
CB Tyrod Darlin
CB Tyson Felton
FS Brandon Bellamy
FS Abram Elam (likely cut)
SS Kerry Rhodes (slight chance that he is cut or traded after the season)
K Tarik Millard

From the list above, the Jets main needs are DT, ROLB, TE, RE, and then depth at WR, CB, S, and maybe HB. At TE, the Jets are looking to re-sign Jerome Pittman, and the Jets are also working hard to sign HB Bryan Peterson, a UDFA sensation as a rookie.

Draft Preview
Despite a strong 2012 draft and a good start to the season, the Jets still have some needs to be filled. These needs are, as mentioned above, DT, ROLB, TE, RE, WR, CB, and S (and depth across the board, as well). The Jets own the following draft picks in the 2013 draft:

1st round (from Bears)
2nd round
3rd round (from Bears)
3rd round
4th round (from Giants)
4th round (from Seahawks)
4th round
5th round
6th round
7th round (from Falcons)
7th round

Total: 11 picks

The Jets have begun scouting, and have determined the strengths and weaknesses of the draft. The draft is seen by many as being strong at WR (*****), S (*****), and CB (****), with good talent at LB (***), DT (***), OL (***), and TE (***). However, it is lacking in good talent at RB (**) and DE (**), and is especially poor at QB (*). Luckily, this matches up nicely with the Jets' needs on the defensive side of the ball.

Some players of interest are:
RE Thaddeus Brunson (Texas Southern): A beast compared to Julius Peppers
DT Lavelle Thomas (USC): A pass-rushing maverick inside
WR Jervonte Johnson (San Diego State): A big, strong WR in the mold of Plaxico Burress
SS Jarvis Mickens (Georgia): A speedy headhunter in the secondary
RE Devery Nesbit (Vanderbilt): An explosive edge rusher
DT Marcus Tapp (Miami): An underrated but explosive pass rusher inside
WR Jerious Lockwood (Nevada): An elusive WR compared to Santonio Holmes
TE Jason Conroy (Idaho): Quite possible the next Antonio Gates
TE Mike Hoover (Navy): A big, fearsome blocker who could help out in the ground game, even if he's not much of a pass-catcher. Head Coach Steve Caruzzo would love to pair him with the explosive TE Jerome Pittman.
