Re: Coaching Career of Jim Zorn (NFL HC 09)

Standings and Hot Seat Report

AFC North

Ravens (8) 6-3
Browns (10) 5-4
Bengals (17) 4-5 The Bengals are tired of losing so HC Marvin Lewis may be on his way out.
Steelers (30) 2-7 Coach Mike Tomlin is a magician. Somehow despite posting a 2-7 record and sitting at the bottom of the AFC North and NFL Rankings, his owner and fans still credit him with doing a great job. Tomlin looks to be staying in Pittsburgh.

AFC South

Colts (2) 9-0
Jaguars (11) 5-4
Texans (21) 4-5
Titans (24) 3-6

AFC East

Patriots (3) 7-2
Bills (12) 5-4
Dolphins (29) 2-7
Jets (31) 1-8 No shock here, HC Eric Mangini is on his way out...it is doubtful he could do anything to save his job at this point.

AFC West

Chargers (5) 7-2
Chiefs (7) 7-2
Raiders (26) 3-6 Let's face it, Lane Kiffin never should of got this job in the first place. I expect Coach Kiffin to retire from the NFL at the end of the season.
Broncos (32) 0-9 Despite losing every game this season the faithful in Denver still believe in Mike Shanahan reports are that Coach Shanahan is doing okay and the team has no plans to make a change.

NFC North

Packers (16) 4-5 Sure they're at the top of their division but a 4-5 record is hard to stomach for the proud Packer faithful. If HC Mike McCarthy doesn't at least get the team to a winning record he's gone.
Vikings (20) 4-5
Lions (22) 3-6 HC Rod Marinelli promised big things and he hasn't delivered, look for him to be coaching elsewhere next year.
Bears (27) 2-7

NFC South

Buccaneers (4) 7-2
Saints (9) 6-3
Panthers (23) 3-6 HC John Fox needs to turn things around or he won't be staying in Carolina.
Falcons (28) 2-7

NFC East

Giants (1) 9-0
Cowboys (6) 7-2
Eagles (15) 5-4
Redskins (16) 5-4- A 4 game winning streak has the fans in Washington thinking HC Jim Zorn is doing a great job.

NFC West

Seahawks (13) 5-4
Rams (14) 5-4
49ers (19) 4-5
Cardinals (25) 3-6 Last place in the lowly NFC West is hard to bear, even for a Cardinals fan. HC Ken Whisenhunt will probably return to the coordinator ranks next season.

Re: Coaching Career of Jim Zorn (NFL HC 09)

Personell News

backup QB David Greene agrees to a 2yr deal worth $780k- the price was right, but expect the Redskins to go looking for a better option next year.

third string QB Colt Brennan also re-ups with a 2yr deal worth $480k- once again the dollars made sense, but no one seems to think of the fromer Hawaii QB as anything else than a practice player.

backup HB Mike Hart signs a 2yr deal worth $480K- the right price for HB3, Hart might be able to contribute, but no one wants to see the circumstances that would put him in the starting lineup.

FB Carl Stewarts signs on for the long haul working out a 6yr deal worth $4.4M with a $1M bonus. Stewarts' agent also managed to get incentives for 1000yds rushing and 10 TDs ($500K each)- Stewart is doing a great job at FB and many speculate that his speed might make him a good option at HB if the need arises, so the Redskins are very happy to get him to sign a long term deal.

WR Dorien Bryant agrees to a 2yr deal for $480k- Bryant doesn't see the field much, so the Redskins wanted to get him cheap and they did.

TE Mike Peterson signs a 2yr deal for $620k right before an injury puts him on IR for the year.

TE Joe Jon Finley agrees to a 2yr deal for $480k and should see some time on the field due to Peterson's injury.

LG David Hale agrees to a 3yr deal worth $890k with no bonus. While only a backup, Hale gives the Redskins a young versatile player that Coach Bugel thinks will develop into a starter somewhere on the line in a few years.

Backup C and developmental player Andrew Crummey signs a 2yr deal worth $480k- Crummy has potential, but it's going to take time, so it was important to Redskins brass to not pay too much.

RG Michael McGlynn is buried on the depth chart, but Coach Zorn likes the kid, so the Redskins threw him a bone in the form of a 2yr deal worth $520K

Defensive Rookie of the Year Candidate DE Tony Bake agrees to a 2yr deal worth a lowly $720K with a $100K bonus- Talk about a steal! The kid leads the league in Sacks and will have to bring a sack lunch to work because his agent got him such a bad deal!

DT Hank Smithers finally agrees to a 3yr deal worth $4.6M with a $1.5M bonus, with incentives for 10 sacks and 50 tackles ($250k each)- The negotiations were heated and for a time it looked like a deal wouldn't be worked out, but GM Daniel Snyder finally caved to Smithers' incentive demands...one has to think that DE Tony Bake should be talking to Smithers about getting his agent's number.

LBs Jeremy Leman and Vince Hall both agree to 2yr deals woth $480k- an excellent price on some developmental guys behind starter London Fletcher-Baker

Veteran OLB Shawn Barber finally agrees to a 2yr deal worth $1.2M with a $500k bonus- some are shocked the Redskins resigned Barber who is in his 10th year and rarely sees the field.

CB Jonathon Wilhite continues to walk out of negotiations with GM Daniel Snyder. Snyder wants Wilhite to sign a rookie minimum deal, while Wilhite has his eyes set on something more lucrative with incentives. HC Zorn sees value in Wilhite and feels confident that Wilhite won't let his opportunity slip away over a few dollars.

Training Camp invitee FS Bobbie Crosby was only too happy to sign a 2yr deal worth $480k.

converted FS, SS Josh Barrett has yet to agree to a deal with the Redskins. Once again the Redskins are offering league minimum and Barrett thinks he should get more. HC Zorn would like to sign Barrett and is confident a deal will get worked out.

K Alexis Serna agrees to a 3yr deal for $4.1M with a $1.5M bonus. It is a little more than the Redskins wanted to pay, but Serna is not only Washington's kicker he is also their punter and has done well at both positions, so $1.3M for a kicker and punter isn't too bad...it isn't league minimum, but it isn't the $3.8M the Raiders pay for K Sebastian Janikowski and P Shane Lechler either or the $4M the Bills pay for K Rian Lindell and P Brian Moorman.

A big divisional battle vs. a hated rival, what could be better? The Cowboys got the best of the Redskins last time, mainly thanks to a big performance by rookie HB Felix Jones.
