How about Ohio beating Georgetown from last year?

Ohio was 16-14 going into the MAC tournament last year and caught fire, winning 4 games to get to the tournament. Little did anyone think that they'd not only win the game but pretty much punch Georgetown in the mouth for 40 minutes.

That was huge. I had Georgetown in the Elite Eight there (losing to UNI lol)
The reason that didn't get as much publicity as it deserved is because Ohio just blew them out of the water. Georgetown never really got it close in the 2nd half. If it had been a close game all along and Ohio had hit a buzzer beating 3 to win it, then it would have been talked about a lot more. Cooper and Bassett were just shooting lights out and G'Town's style of play came back to haunt them. They run some of the most stagnant Princeton offense sets I've ever seen.

Ohio was the 4th or 5th best team in the MAC and they beat the Big East Tournament Champions. That's pretty incredible.

When an Ivy League team defeats a defending national champion, then nothing else should be said. An IVY LEAGUE TEAM beat A DEFENDING CHAMPION

WKU over Drake in '08 was a fun one.

Fun, but hardly a shocking upset.
If only Drake had won that one.... I wanted to see them play UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen. I think Love would have dominated them but you never know when you have a PG like Adam Emmenecker.

Southern University over Georgia Tech in 1993

The answer will vary depending on your generation or when you started watching hoops. I started watching hoops in 1994 when I was a teen and now I'm 28. Most of the 'upsets' that I saw listed were games that I watched or remember in my time.

I didn't see any upsets listed before 1980 but I would like to know what 'upsets' happen before 1980.

However, big upsets for included Southern University upsetting Georgia Tech in 1993. It was a great day for the SWAC and Avery Johnson led Southern University.

Re: What was the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament History?

Murray State had two very big upsets in its history. They defeated NC State in 1988 and then lost to eventual NCAA champ Kansas by 4 in the second round. The Racers defeated Vanderbilt last year in the first round. They lost to Butler by 2 and Brad Stevens says it was the second toughest game his Butler team faced besides Duke.

They lost by 4 to UNC in 2006. They lost by 3 to Duke in 1997. 1990 They lost to Michigan State who was a #1 seed by 4 in overtime.

I wouldn't call any of those the great upsets in NCAA tournament history but still very significant upsets. The biggest upset would be Princeton over UCLA. They played a flawless game to upset the Bruins.
