If he turns what for all intents and purposes was a shipwreck of a season around and wins the ACC title, or even competes for it, then I'll happily bring him back.

Let's be honest, the team's goal this year was to get back to a bowl game; we're still in fine shape to do that, so long as we can win three more games. If we don't accomplish that, can him.

No. This BS about just being happy to go to a bowl with 6 wins doesn't cut it.

That's why UVA is in the position it is. We accept 6 wins as a good season.

Al created the mess... he doesn't deserve credit for fixing it.

As long as Al Groh loses to VT... he should gone. Shouldn't matter if he goes to a bowl or not. Virginia has lost year-in year-out to Tech since Groh got there. That shouldn't be able to cut it.

That being said... I hope he stays. He's a good friend to the Hokies.

Call me crazy, but if our defense keeps playing as well as it has, and the offense can simply avoid turnovers and make a few plays when they need to, I do think we have as good a shot as anyone of beating the Hokies. The only player they have that really jumps off the page at me (on offense) is running back Ryan Williams.

Long term, obviously, that's not the goal. However, given all the turmoil our team went through in the 2008 season, and given that we've changed offensive coordinators, it's no way realistic to expect an ACC Championship for the Hoos, this season anyhow. It wasn't at the season's outset, and it obviously still isn't now, despite our apparent conference lead that we've stumbled into.

Also, keep in mind that the best the Cavaliers have ever done, under Groh, Welsh, or otherwise, is nine wins. We aren't exactly a football powerhouse, and it's not fair to have expectations that assume we are.

Groh's nightmare scenario, IMO, is that he gets to 5-6 and needs to beat Tech to get the team bowl-eligible (that'd be 2-3 against GT, Duke, Miami, BC, and Clemson; that is very doable at this point). He beats the Hokies, he keeps his job, everyone in Charlottesville gets drunk and throws a massive party; he loses, no one cares and he's gone, IMO.
