Re: 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama's Nick Saban is The Associated Press college football coach of the year.

This is the second time Saban has won the award. He also was coach of the year with LSU in 2003.

Saban easily outdistanced Texas Tech's Mike Leach, Utah's Kyle Whittingham and Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson in balloting by an AP media panel that votes in the weekly poll.

He received 32 votes, while Leach was second with nine. Whittingham received six votes and Johnson five. Seven other coaches also got votes.

Saban led Alabama to a 12-1 season, the only loss coming to Florida in the SEC title game. The Crimson Tide faces Utah in the Sugar Bowl for only its second Bowl Championship Series game.

Re: 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide

Got a couple of questions for you guys. First, the clemson rivals board is indicating we actually have a shot with Kevin Steele. Regardless if this is true or not, what is he like as a DC? I also just learned that he is the head defensive coach and how that is different from DC I dont know. Dabo and Steele are supposed to be real close.

I hope he doesn't run a soft zone like Koening or Chavis (even though he is LSU bound)

Also, rumors are Burton Burns wants out of T-town and back at Clemson. Any truth to Burns wanting out? I like him and would take him over Powell anyday of the week as RBs coach.

I am no way a Bama fan but love anything Alabama football. Yall just no how to do things right (for the most part). Good luck in your bowl game even though you wont need it.

P.S. I dont actually think we have a shot at landing Steele.

Re: 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide

Steele is a good DC..but Kirby Smart is our current defensive coordinator.

I think Saban saw Steele being a candidate for a head job in the near future(not a big job..but one on the level of a Southern Miss or Troy)hence the stripping of the DC title and making him associate head coach.

I thought they were co-DC. How much is Saban and how much is them?

At Alabama...defense is mainly Smart and Saban. Nick Saban's hand in the defense lies solely with the defensive backs.

Steele has a hand in the LB's though.
