if you are going to be called the "national champion" shouldnt you have a playoff containing all the "champions" from said "nation"? the "champion" that beats all the other "champions" would be the "national champion". a playoffs without every conf. champ would piss me off greatly. unless its a 16-team playoff just keep it how it is. if they go to a plus-1 or a 4 team or some crap then they should just send all the non-bcs confs down to FCS...no point in them even playing the game (except ooc games where they get paid big $$ to lose)

i dont see how if all d-1 teams had the incentive of a reasonable shot at the NC every year it would make the reg season less relevant. I understand that at the end of season things would already be settled and games will mean less, but it is like that in the current system too. if anything...conf play would see huge improvements...especially from the "bottom-dwellers" who, without an arbitrary ranking system holding them back, would actually have a legit shot at the NC year in and year out.

Not the question. The real question is if college football is as popular as it could be? And with the ridiculous way it determines a champion, I would say absolutely not.

Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure the NFL doesn't mind it's playoff system as 5x's as many people watch the NFL crown their champion.

Your right. I would watch college football if there were a playoff system. With just bowl games i dont watch cuz i dont know whos playing or why i should watch. at least with a playoff i will watch games and pick a few teams i want to see make it to the end. If i watch a bowl game and i start to like a team i would like to see them play more.

Just thoughts from a guy who would like to watch college football (dad played in gator bowl) and just CANNOT get into it. Probably my own fault but playoffs would help some.

Actually, college football was most popular from the the 1920s to the 1970s when it smoked the NFL and actually saved it in the early years (see Red Grange, the Chicago Charities College Game: 1934-76).

Only when the focus from regionalization to nationalization (and the absurd idea you could crown a national champion) emerged in the late 1980s did the game truly fall behind the NFL for good.

Feel free to start your own thread guy. And as far as you being the only one who understands football, All I can say is if a playoff system is so bad why does every other division do it? It's needed. Computers and voting should never replace good old fashioned competition. I think most people who are willing to concede a chance at a title by simply leaving it up to the computers and voters are fans not the athletes. I'd be willing to be the Utah and Boise fans will not agree with you either. And as far as big name teams meeting, who gives a flying pig weather or not they meet if they suck? Id rather watch them tough it out in the playoffs and earn a title then say we won a championship because everyone in mainstream media thought we should.

First, I think I already said i dont really watch,second if you don't have an actual opinion why open your trap. Lastly. If i were an Ohio state fan I'd say that too since no matter how much they stink there will always be some Big 10 zealot to vote them as the worlds greatest every year. Try adding some sec teams to your Out of confrence schedule. But since they cant beat Pac 10's Usc , why bother.....
