Dude sure does love writing letters to the U. This seems almost personal for him. Not saying he isn't right on a lot of counts (He is), but okay, we get it...you wrote an article/letter 16 years ago. It's like 'hey look at me, I'm doing it again. maybe It'll happen this time.'

They just need to enforce the rules that are in place. Consistent punishments across the board. They also need to lighten certain restrictions. A scholarship athlete should be allowed to have a t-shirt business say.

In fairness, I think that letter to Miami is one of the most famous covers that SI has ever done. So him writing a follow-up letter actually makes sense and is somewhat noteworthy.

Re: The Miami Hurricanes Saga

According to a CBSsports.com report, the is NCAA giving immunity to some of the players to spill the beans. Robert Marve is supposedly one of them, with Arthur and Bryce Brown also being mentioned and the rest never played for Miami, were only recruited by them.
Quote:
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A CBSSports.com report says Purdue quarterback Robert Marve and eight other players named in a Yahoo Sports article detailing allegations against Miami's football program were authorized to receive limited immunity from the NCAA in exchange for testimony.

Asked if he was granted limited immunity, Marve said after Tuesday's practice: "I have nothing to say about it. I'm trying to get ready for the season."

Marve was one of more than 70 current and former players implicated in the Yahoo report that revealed booster Nevin Shapiro allegedly provided thousands of impermissible benefits to Hurricanes players and recruits from 2002 through 2010. Shapiro is incarcerated for his role in a $930 million Ponzi scheme.

Within 48 hours of the Yahoo story's publication, Purdue was one of four schools to issue statements regarding the eligibility of their current players after communication with the NCAA. None of the players will face eligibility issues.

"The enforcement staff has been given, by the membership, a pretty important investigative tool," NCAA vice president for enforcement Julie Roe Lach told CBSSports.com, "when we think that's really our only shot of getting that information."

According to Miami President Donna Shalala, 15 current student-athletes are under investigation.

The NCAA didn't respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Marve and Kansas State's Arthur Brown were the two players to enroll at Miami and then transfer. The remaining current players identified by Shapiro in the Yahoo story were recruited by Miami but never attended the school.

Josephine Potuto, former chairman of the NCAA Committee on Infractions and currently the athletic faculty representative at Nebraska, said limited immunity can be viewed as a last resort.

"If there's no other way to get the information and it's a major violation, it's a tool that they can use," Potuto said.

NCAA bylaws have allowed the enforcement staff to use limited immunity in cases before, but mainly with staff and coaches.

In April, a bylaw went into effect giving the enforcement staff the power to grant limited immunity to student-athletes and prospects.

When the Yahoo story broke, the NCAA announced it had been investigating Miami's program for five months. Potuto said the timing of the bylaw and the Miami investigation is a coincidence.

Justin P. Sievert, a college sports attorney for the Florida-based Michael Buckner Law Firm, said Tuesday that limited immunity is a powerful tool at the NCAA's disposal.

If the NCAA has granted limited immunity, Sievert said Purdue's role is minimal.

"Purdue has nothing to offer other than making sure Marve understands that he needs to cooperate and he can't mislead the NCAA," said Sievert.

Shapiro said he provided Marve with at least one cash gift, two dinners at a posh Miami restaurant and VIP treatment at South Beach nightclubs.

Potuto said individuals granted limited immunity are required to provide full disclosure.

Marve, who continues to struggle with swelling and soreness in his right knee, clearly wants this episode to end.

"It happened a long time ago," said Marve, who transferred to Purdue following the 2008 season. "I'm trying to get my knee together and get ready for the season."
