Not only this, but you have to spread it out to everybody who's spending time in the athletics department. That includes, but is not limited to, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, track and field, underwater basket weaving, etc... You can't go on one sport and exclude everybody else or else you will get the wrath of God in the form of the United States Government on you and your university.

I just graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington, and I knew of the situations of many of the kids who play sports. Granted, we don't have football (yet), but these kids are doing just fine with the support that they receive from the University. Go to class, take the time to learn, and then either chose to go professional in your sport or find a job. Either way, these kids didn't have to spend their money going to college. That's a lot more than others (including myself) can say.

No, this isn't true. If this were ever to be allowed, boosters wouldn't have to give benefits to every athlete in the athletic department, but they could. No sport would be excluded.

Title IX is all about universities providing opportunity. Allowing boosters to give benefits would not violate Title IX in any way because the opportunity for every athlete to receive those benefits would be available. It would be up to the boosters themselves to give benefits to whomever they want.

I don't agree with this idea, but Title IX has nothing to do with why this wouldn't work.

Well if your not hating why can't they receive benefits from boosters it's not an illegal act? Any illegal acts are already illegal. There's no evidence that this will expose them anymore bookies or questionable people.

But there's also no evidence that it wouldn't.

You'd also have to think that certain players would receive more gifts than that of a 3rd-string back-up or walk-on so I'm sure that would easily create some tension within the team. I'd imagine that to keep that to a minimum the rule would have to be that if one player gets a gift from a booster then everyone has to get it also or a coach could limit or straight out ban any gifts from boosters.

Guys like Herb Tyler, Larry Foster, and Roland Seymour. That were important pieces and put butts in the stances for their swchools. One just didn't make it, one made it but couldn't last, and lastly one was projected as a top 10 pick but was injuired. Why shouldn't these guys have been allowed to take every legit penny given? Why should a cheerleader be given the same benefits from the schools as these men who earned the school millions?
Did they finish up their schooling? I doubt it. That's on them.

I am sorry the notion that they somehow have it so bad is absolutely false. As student athletes they are proved opportunities and services that regular students simply aren't afforded. As a football player or any other student athlete you get perks particualrly when it comes to academics that simply are not available to other students.

If they chose not to take advantage of those, that's totally on them.
