Who knew Petrino could be topped.

The real need for Pitt now is to get a stabilizing coach with name recognition. Sadly I don't think the Atheltics Department can do that.

LOL, Pitt. They are in shambles right now. So awesome. Enjoy the ACC.

Graham was pretty awful at Pitt this year, anyways. To go 6-6 with the amount of talent they had is pathetic.

I also find this funny since Graham is supposedly so religious. But he sure doesn't mind backstabbing, does he?

Re: Coaching Carousel Thread 2011-2012 Edition

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the full context of the departure text.

Quote:
I have resigned my position at Pitt in the best interest of my family to pursue the head coaching position at Arizona State.

"Coaching there has always been a dream of ours & we have family there.

"The timing of the circumstances have prohibited me from telling you this directly.

"I now am on my way to Tempe to continue those discussions. God Bless, Coach Graham

And superjames. To be fair, yes Pitt does have a lot of talent, but they were recruited to play in a Pro Style system, not a spread system. Couple the fact that they were learning a whole new system with the numerous key injuries they had this year and 6-6 was pretty much what I expected from this team from the outset.

Also, I don't know how much of this is directly on Pitts athetic department and how much of it is based on the current state of the Big East.

Re: Coaching Carousel Thread 2011-2012 Edition

Pitt probably should have never got rid of the Stache. Pitt had 9-4, 10-3, and 8-5 seasons in the Stache's last three years and now has a snake oil salesman who led the Panthers to a 6-6 regular season record. No improvement and now Pitt will be on its third different coach in less than a year. The Stache wasn't a great coach, but at least he was a guy that was a Pitt man for life and brought the program stability.

Wanny's biggest strength was that he could recruit.

Exactly, I've been saying that since the day he was forced out. I mean, sure we hadn't been able to win the BE, but 3 straight bowl games and the schools first 10 win season since Marino was the QB was pretty good. Plus, we had tons of talent coming through. Sure, 2010 was a slight bump in the road, but only slight and the team was definitely moving forward. Now with a complete overhaul of the team in 2011 and what will probably be another one in 2012 coupled with all the madness surrounding the future of the Big East and Pitt's pending move to the ACC whether it be 2012 or 2014 and the immediate future of the football team seems murky at best.

Re: Coaching Carousel Thread 2011-2012 Edition

I think the The MOB (Marching Owl Band) said it best at halftime of a game against Graham's Tulsa team:

"You know, that reminds me of a joke: A priest, a nun, and a rabbi walk into a bar. Now, I forgot how the rest of it went, but I think in the end Todd Graham is a douchebag."

This is like someone put Saban, Petrino and Kiffin into a blender, and then added water in whatever was left.
