Re: College Football Off Topic

All of this just goes to show that the committee has already determined prior to the season which teams they wanted to play in the playoff and will search for any justification to keep those teams in it.

I wouldn't have agreed with you before the season started. But now I do.

Big Ten expected to change policy that teams must play 6 games to be eligible for conference title game - Dinich, Rittenberg

Of course they are.

Because they need Ohio State to be in the Championship and win so they can justifiably be placed into the playoffs.

This is another reason why, although its extreme due to current world situations, that they need to expand the playoffs to include all power 5 conference champions, 1 from outside the power 5 and then 2 wildcard teams.

You could then justify putting Ohio State as a wildcard, let Indiana and Northwestern play the Big Ten title game as they met the criteria.

Now this is an idea I can get behind. I think your bring up a great point. The situation is bad right now.

How noble of LSU to ban themselves from a bowl when it's highly unlikely an invitation was coming

I don't want to go down the road of the merits of expansion vs status quo again, but I think that's just trading one bad situation for another.

The primary problem that I think we have all picked out is that the playoff committee does not have a set & objective set of criteria from which it weighs things. They have seemingly adjusted the important variables week by week since it's inception.

I wish that they would adopt some version of the old BCS rankings rather than these closed door meetings. A human element as well as an objective data driven element combining to some aggregate to establish the top 4. It still would not be perfect, but every format will have some drawback.

Harbaugh's greatest move at Michigan was running around with a bucket of covid, throwing it on everyone to make sure the OSU game got cancelled.

whew, that was close
