Re: Official USC - Michigan \"Rose Bowl Discussion thread\"

I have to say, it's nice to see we get the good old fashioned, Big 10 vs. Pac 10 matchup. These always make for great games. The Rose Bowl just doesn't seem like the Rose Bowl, when an ACC team ends up playing a Big 12 team in this game.

While I am rooting for USC, I would like to congratulate Michigan for winning their conference, and earning the right to be here. Good luck to the Wolverines and may the best team win. I think this is truly the most interesting matchup of all the bowl games.

sugar bowl or not, USC will be playing for a national championship, so they will be prepared and motivated. i'm glad it worked out this way because tradition is back in the rose bowl.

historically, michigan has not been very successful in the rose bowl. in recent history, michigan has not fared well on the west coast. so to help the team, i will NOT be going to the rose bowl because obviously my presence at UCLA, UW, and UO caused the team to lose.

in my initial assessment, it should be a high-scoring affair, but i'll hold off on a score for now. so if michigan beats usc, does michigan have any claim on the national championship? hey, why not, this is the year for controversy.

But would we honestly have any claim in the MNC regardless of what happends in that other bowl?

And as for predictions, we end up with more points than SC.

I would be shocked...

I would be blown away...

I would be dumbfounded....

...if either one of these teams puts up more then 30 on the other like so many are predicting.

Michigan excels in games when they have nothing to play for and their opponent does.

Michigan 24
USC 21

Best game of the season!

I hate the people saying the Big 10 is slow or teams from the Big 10 are slow. Ohio State beat a Miami team considered fast.
Lets see who did Michigan beat last bowl games Florida a SEC team. SEC is considered fast by SEC fans wat happened in that game Michigan 38 Florida 30.
Lets go back another year where we did get killed because Tennesee should have been in the NC and it was prlly Michigan's worst team in 20 years.
Ok year after that aaa another SEC team in Auburn wat was the score 31-28.
Lets go back a year after that who does Michigan face another SEC team in Alabama wat happened in that game 35-34 Michigan.
Can i say lets go back a another year who does Michigan face yet another SEC team in Arkansas and wat was the score 45-31 Michigan.
Hmm do i see a trend speeeeed sure did hinder Michigan from winning those games. The reason Michigan lost that Oregon game was Special Teams. Ok another Big 10 team in Minnesota who do they play but a SEC team. Wat do u think happened in that game 29-14 Minnesota.
U take Michigan and put them in the PAC-10 with USC shedule Michigan either ties it or goes undeafeated.
This game will be close both teams have very very balanced offenses and solid defense. People who say that its gonna be lopsided either way are idiots it will prlly be a diffrence of 7 points or less either way.
But speed is aload of [censored you naughty boy]. Big 10 teams hears that bull all the time and Michigan hears it every time they a play a quote on quote SPEED team. And look wat has happened in the bowls one loss against a very very good Tenneseee team.
My Predicton Michigan 30 USC 27

If you don't think the speed of Oregon was a factor in the Oregon vs. Michigan game your kidding yourself.

As far as rolling through the Pac 10, thats purely speculative. There's no reason to think USC wouldnt do the same with Michigan's schedule in the Big 10.

USC had the toughest schedule in the nation last year, and all the Big 10 fans said they were soft last year. USC routed the Big 10 co-champs Iowa in their bowl game.

BTW, the Pac 10 was 4-3 vs. the Big 10 this year, including their 3rd place Oregon team beating the Big 10 champs. The Pac 10 was not as strong as it usually is, but anyone that says their team would walk through the conference are generally people who really have not seen Pac 10 teams play.

I was at the Michigan v. Oregon game. Yes speed did play some factor, but mostly it was sloppy special teams and a bad game plan by loyd carr that lost that game. You can bet that there won't be those problems this time....

I should hope not. Because those problems against USC would be deadly. Make no mistake there is a large, large differece in talent level, and athleticism between USC and Oregon.

I think Michigan folks think they are playing another soft Pac 10 team. There are worlds of difference between USC and Oregon.

Michigan fans, including me, know and recognize the talent that USC has. They are the #1 team in the country and Michigan fans are just excited that our team gets to face off against the number one team. If Michigan wins, it will prove that they are an elite team this year. Go Blue!
