I think that they must, there are times that I have practically a full recruit report with very little scouting. I don't know how it happens, but I do know that they are guys from the camps.

From what I've seen in my experiments, recruit camps help 0 in increasing a players interest in your school. They are excellent for scouting though. I've tried scouting everyone team once up through scouting the same team every time. From what I've seen, scouting a team twice is guaranteed to tell you every one of their attributes including potential. You can watch their progress while in the camp by pushing the right stick while having a player selected (on the 360). You don't seem to get any information on their preferences (IE. playing close to home or getting playing time), but the more you scout them, the more you learn of their tendencies (IE. best attribute is rebounding and highest tendency is shooting the 3).

Do you have to do the drills/play the games or just sim it?

There suppose to help a bit. not raise the interest, but instead make the impact of your actions (ie visits and calls, ect.) more powerful. But I have run a few tests, and from my experience it does not help at all.
