well it seems that some people still think Sony will be around, with a ps4 in 2011.
So actually, while Sony and MS may be around next generation, we'll have to see if they shift to more cost effective Wii-ish consoles.
For Sony's sake it would be smart to continue on with the Cell and stay consistent. Developers are still learning the great technology for the Cell. Once PS4 hits, that Cell technology will be very familiar and there should be no where near as many growing pains as there was with the PS3. The Cell technology was rushed and unknown this generation. With the PS4 they will have a power Cell and be able to get the correct GPU to match. Reason I say that was because the Nvidia RSX was rushed as the original plan was to have two Cells and no GPU but was removed last second and the GPU was hurried.
One thing that is interesting about that article is the 32 cores. In the developer world, one core is what most prefer. Developers hated the idea that the 360 brought in three cores and PS3 brought in one with 7 SPE. 32 cores is crazy.
