yep, but news sites are still going to go crazy over this. Too bad IGN bit on it too. The only reason the older ps3's had software emulation was because they still had that ps2 graphics processor built in. This could just be Sony further optimizing emulation of the EE which could help them emulate the GS.

Sony's been looking into it though, as there was a survey put out in April asking if people wanted God of War 1 & 2 as extras in the special edition release of God of War 3. There was even a job posting specifically for implementing full playstation brand BC in the ps3 and possibly ps4.

It must have been last May when I first heard the news, at least. I remember when my friend and I were considering getting a PlayStation 3 consoles (which I got mine in June), I was talking to my friend about this rumor while I was still in school, which we got out in May. So I ended up getting the 40 GB because I believed in the hype; he got the 80, which at the time seems like was logistically favorable. Plus, I need more memory now.

So hopefully down the road I'll be able to get a bigger internal HDD and this rumor will be true as actually happening.

Same here. Thought for a second something had been announced because of the thread title, but huge news either way (if true). My PS3 will get a lot more use

Re: All PS3s to be Backward Compatable

Once they get this puppy going, they'd be able to get more sales on that PS3. I bet it goes up? I personally wouldn't hold out on getting the older, more valuable systems. I'd pull the trigger on the new systems and have a ball. Their BC was their biggest asset that they pulled off the market. So many people would have pulled the trigger working that extra month or two in order to play their PS2 titles on the PS3. WOW!! Took them guys long enough.

Personally while it's great they are going back to full BC, I have doubts it helps substantially in the sales department. Only a price drop will do that.

Agreed... BC would be a nice addition, but it's not going to be a major selling point.

Re: All PS3s to be Backward Compatable

So if all of this news about a new PS3 price and sku is coming down the pipeline as well as the bundle, I can really see the PS3 picking up momentum this year. Maybe not to tie but at least to appear like it's still fighting to stay viable.
