New Joint Microsoft-Sony Console?

Source

Quote:
Microsoft has trouble making hardware. Sony has trouble running online services. What if the next Xbox and the next PlayStation are one and the same?

A few months ago, while reporting about the then unannounced Wii U console for Nintendo, we stumbled on an interesting ancillary rumour: Microsoft and Sony were in active discussions regarding their next consoles.
Quote:
Microsoft has registered new domain names: Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com.

The rumor going around is Microsoft have been trying to talk to Sony about making a console for a few years but Sony has declined offers.

MS would want to join forces with Sony after looking at what exclusive future releases they will have.

The THQ boss also thinks Google and Apple will have a console next gen.

Sony-Microsoft.com a "Defensive Domain Hold" Says Microsoft

Owen Good — The discovery this week that "sony-microsoft.com" is a domain owned by Microsoft set off all sorts of speculation as to what a potential collaboration could mean. Microsoft's Frank X. Shaw, the company's top spokesman, tweeted on Friday that "Sony = great MS partner. No scoop here, this was just a defensive domain hold." [h/t ThisLife17]
That doesn't really kill the speculation, it's still odd they decided to grab these domains as a "defense" now.

I don't like the idea of Google and Apple making consoles, and I don't like the idea of MS and Sony merging. It's like Google and Apple get so big so they say, "I guess we should make a console?!?"

Although for Sony, I feel they took a hit this generation. their PS3 just didn't do what they planned and hoped. Meanwhile the Xbox brand and Xbox Live has become quite a hit. But the two merging..I don't know about that. I wouldn't say never though.

No different than MSFT being so big and saying, "lets just make a console (XBox)". Just sayin'

No doubt. MS does it all the time and fails too. They tried to parallel Itunes with Zune and it didn't compete. Google tried to enter the social media craze with Google Wave and that flopped. Now they have G+.

But in respect to MS, they have long been in the gaming market with PCs. I think it was more of a branch out for them than it was someone like Google heading down that road. but, far be it from me or anyone else to stop someone or some company from experimenting in something new. Sometimes though the company that sees another company being successful enters in for themselves without true focus on what they are embracing, and that results in low quality.
