Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Just beating the story for me equal beating the game. I never cared for trophies or achievements. Those things mean nothing to me.

This is why I asked and it sounds like the words finished and completed may be interchangeable for most.

Putting trophies aside and taking GTAIV as a widely played example, finishing the story is no where near completing the game. What about all the side activities and multi-player?

"Ain't nobody got time for that."

There are exceptions, but it's usually way too tedious for me to complete a game with all the trophies. I don't have any Platinum on PS4 right now.

1. How can you beat multi player ? There is no ending to it.

2. I do some side activities but all I really care about is the story line. GTAV had way too many side missions, Watch Dogs had a lot of them too. For the most part side missions add very little to the actual story line. I mean hell they are called side missions for a reason.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Thanks guys for answering those questions. Definitely a wide range of answers but the one thing that puzzles me is that despite most people not finishing / completing all of their games, they don't have a backlog???

To me, any game that I have purchased but isn't the game im currently playing counts as a backlogged game. For me, im on chapter 10 in Child of Light but put that on hold so I could have finished Watch Dogs and The Last Of Us Remastered. My backlog usually consists of downloadable games since I know they're obviously not going anywhere. Disc based games being in my backlog are extremely rare since I stopped collecting games years ago and trade them once im finished with them.

Either way, thanks for the responses guys.

To me it's platinum, no less. To others it may be completing story mode once.
For me, it depends on the game's genre, if it's linear or open world, if im enjoying and having fun playing it, if im immersed in it, etc.

I'll use the three games that I have finished for PlayStation 4 as examples -

1) Knack
As a 3D linear platformer, I played through the game once finding as many collectables and hidden items as possible but once I finished the story and the final boss, the game was done and traded in. Good game, looking forward to the sequel but would I play through it again or try finding all the other collectables that I missed? Nope. One and done.

2) Watch Dogs
As an open world action adventure game, I played through the game once, completing as many as the side missions, etc. as possible but once I finished the main story, the game was done and traded in. Excluding the online aspects and those horrible VR codes, I completed the game 100%. All those side missions were fully completed. With open world games, I go through the game completing all the side missions, finding the collectables, etc. before I finish the main story because once I finish the main story, im not going to go back to find what I missed. Once I complete the main story, the main reason to play the game is finished which in turn, leads to me being finished with the game.

On a side note -

I have played more open world games in the last three years than ever before. Far Cry 3 for example was a game that I completed 100%....everything was done except for the co-op portion of the game because I don't play online. The progression screen that's in the game was all completed 100%. If im really into the game, that's what I go by in regards to completing the game. Finishing the game to me means finishing the single player story campaign and seeing the end credits.

For an open world game like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, like Far Cry 3, I go by the completion screen. I had 99% completion for the PS3 version. Only thing that I didn't complete were the sharing aspects in Kenway's Fleet. Did play it but was never able to complete it and after a while, it became boring.

Must admit that im happy the co-op missions in Assassin's Creed Unity can be fully played and completed via single player. I wish Splinter Cell Conviction's and Far Cry 3's co-op modes allowed you to play via single player and have the AI control the other character(s).

Assassin's Creed Rogue has me pumped even more as there's no co-op or multi-player whatsoever. I'm a single player gamer. The online game that has me changing my mind will be The Division but that's still a wait and see since the game is over a year away.

3) The Last Of Us Remastered
Like Knack, I found as many collectables and items as I could while playing through the game but once I finished the main story, the game was done.

Currently, im playing Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. I finished Tomb Raider for Xbox 360 100% meaning the progress screen was done completely. I will do the same again.

In the end, it all depends on how much im enjoying the game and what all the collectables, hidden items, etc. are as well as the side missions/quests.

As for trophies, just like achievements, I hate them completely. Could care less about any of them. And I especially hate that I can't delete the damn trophy notifications on the main screen when you turn on the PlayStation 4. UGH. To me, the real trophy or achievement should be when you finish the game. After all, that's what the main objective and goal is of every game. To finish it. At least to me anyway.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Personally, I find trophies to be half the fun of a game.. Could just be me though.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

They could completely do away with Trophies and I wouldn't miss them one bit.
