Re: Boston College Eagles(NCAA 07)
Eagles and Hokies go down to the wire
The Boston College Eagles and the Virginia Tech Hokies have two of the best defenses in the nation - and both defenses showed up for this game. With the Eagles needing a win to stay in the hunt for the ACC, and the Hokies aiming to keep their national title dreams alive, both teams came out excited and ready to play in what could go down as one of the more exciting games of this season.
Eagles Safety Jamie Silva showed up in the first half, picking off two Glennon passes in the first half, both of which would lead to Eagles' field goals by Ohliger. At halftime, it was a one-score game, with the Eagles leading the Hokies 6-0, thanks to those two field goals.
Halfway through the third quarter, the Eagles would strike again, with Matt Ryan tossing a pass to fullback J. Ross, after a Virginia Tech fumble set the Eagles up deep in Hokie territory. The touchdown gave the Eagles a 13-0 lead, and with the way their defense would playing, it would've seemed as if the game was well out of reach.
The Hokies were not going to go away though, and were set up with a first-and-goal from the Eagles four yard line. After three straight stands by the Eagles' defense, the Hokies tried a play-action, but Lewis couldn't keep his feet in-bounds and wound up failing to get into the endzone...handing the ball over to the Eagles with just over two-minutes left in the game.
The Hokies defense, however, was not ready to call it quits. Ryan dropped back to pass and sent one soaring towards Robinson, however Tech cornerback Minor jumped the route and picked it off...and ended up taking it all the way back to the house, putting the Hokies on the board with 1:58 remaining, and cutting the lead to 6 points.
Once the Eagles recovered the onside kick, it would've appeared as if the game was over, and the Eagles were going to pull of the upset. Once again, the Virginia Tech defense had other plans. After getting the ball on a simlple fullback handoff, Ross was leveled Abibi...and TURNED THE BALL OVER, with under a minute remaining in the game.
The Hokies started amrching down the field, with Glennon completing pass after pass, driving them down within Eagles territory, and all the way to the BC twenty-five. It was then, that BC Safety Silva, decided to get the last laugh. With 14 ticks left on the clock, Glennon heaved it up to the fifteen and Silva jumped up and INTERCEPTED the ball, stealing it right from the receivers hands...to seal the HUGE upset win for the Boston College Eagles.
