VT at 14 is pretty funny and that’s coming from a VT fan.
That's a fair assessment about Iowa. They do have a solid defense, however, Tennessee beat them 35-0 in the bowl game, so it does speak wonders of the opponents they face in the Big Ten.

Re: EA Sports College Football 25 Top Defenses

I'm going to take off my blue tinted glasses for a minute here lol...

Looking at both the Top 25 Offenses and Defenses lists and...

...they have the Tar Heels bass ackwards lol! We've had Top 25 offenses for the past 5 years, including years in the Top 10, while our defenses have been among the worst in college football the last 3 years. Yet, we are not among the Top 25 offenses and are ranked #23 in defense.

On the flipside, NC State is ranked #16 in offense, and not ranked in defense. That's backwards too.

How much of that is because of the abysmal offense though?

Penn State scored 31, but Iowa's offense only had 76 yards combined offense. Resulting in the defense being on the field for 45 minutes.

Michigan scored 26, Iowa's offense only had 150 yards.

In both cases, Iowa's defense held those opposing, good, offenses well below their season averages in yards per pass and rush attempt. Their own offense just didn't do them any favors which resulted in them being on the field all game and Mich/PSU scoring on volume of opportunities. The only offense that you can really say that they struggled with was Tennessee.

#13 overall seems like it's probably close to right, maybe even underrated (I don't know who they lost on defense).

Yeah and they are tied with 5 other teams at 88 overall. So they could be listed at 8 instead of 13 and i don’t think think people would be complaining.

People severely underestimate the impact a bad offense has on your defense. Nebraska was great on defense last year. But their offense was so bad they were on the field all game, and as a result they got exhausted. The amount of games Iowa won is purely a testament to how good their defense was to prop up an absolutely putrid offense.

I 100% agree. I am hoping that Geoff Collins will lead us to having a respectable defense this season. But, if they are using current data, there is NO WAY UNC should show up on ANY top rated defensive lists...NONE! The same cannot be said for our offense. We've been in the top 10-25 range every year that Mack brown has been back at Carolina. That's 5 straight years. They trippin for real at EA lol.
