I understand overreaction and hot takes are going to happen, and I try to avoid them whenever possible, but my God is this list terrible.

The Colorado rankings immediately make me think that this game is going to be way more 'arcade-ish' as opposed to anything resembling a true football sim.

Can we look at these rankings and say that they are? I mean, I'm a self admitted Tar Heel homer and even I can admit that our defense being ranked #23 should be a joke in a comedy act. I'm not exactly sure what they were shooting for with these rankings, but I can buy Rayweather's idea more than the idea that they were trying to make these rankings as realistic as possibly. Maybe they are forecasting...I don't know.

I said this in the offense rating thread, but the rating is an average over the player attributes, not necessarily tied to total defense ranking. If you have a few stud players, that will make the rating seem higher than expected even though most of the defense could be suspect, so their ranking in dynasty mode might not be that great and closer to what we see in real life.

I'm wondering if Travis Hunter alone bumps Colorado's defensive rating up by maybe 2-3 points.

I think the bigger deal is that players have spread out ratings. I can kind of see how when you average a whole defense’s ratings together it might come out kind of samey, but hopefully player to player you notice big differences.

And if that’s the case, then all those 84s are not going to play the same at all.

Spread out player ratings should mean spread out unit ratings as well imo. 1 or two good players does not make a unit good.

I’d argue that an 84 is a rating for a pretty good unit. And Colorado’s defense was anything but. Michigan’s offense for example, should be rated higher than Colorado’s defense, and it’s not.

Things like this are why people distrust EA. How are people supposed believe this is a passion project from the devs when they can’t even get team ratings right?

I would imagine individual player Overall ratings, added up for a total score , factor into what rating each team received. So if you see something you disagree with, it might be an indictment on EA's player attribute ratings. Something to ponder.
