And one of those w/ over 80, is the # 1 WR... or Z as he would be called in real football talk...
5 Wide / Gun spread and motion the HB out is the way to go. The CPU has no clue what to do.. I rarely have to get to my third read.

Side note: You know you bold all the numbers in your posts. Haha just giving you a hard time but thought it was funny.

Re: the passing game is ruining ncaa 12 for me

At the risk of embarrassing myself, I will confess I've been playing my one person OD on Freshman as an OC (which means I can't speak to playing D versus the CPU offense).

Why? Because with the CPU D sliders maxed out on pass D and nearly maxed out on run D, and with my run/pass O sliders very low, I actually get a pretty good game. Even then there are games where I can't find an open receiver very often. Any level above Freshman, and FORGEDABOUTIT. You can't pass for squat because ratings for CPU DB's and LB'ers become virtually meaningless, they're glued to your receivers on 90% of the plays. I can't get a reasonable passing attack going no matter if the CPU D sliders are on zero in lowly Varsity.

It is a HUGE play balance issue that needs to be tuned.
NO WAY on Varsity the CPU D should play like that with D sliders on ZERO. No way. The CPU simply does not play remotely like its player ratings.

It is true when I need a money play I go 4-5 WR's with a slot receiver heading over the middle. Been this way in EA land FOREVER.

You should try mkharsh's slider sets on varsity... The computer doesn't cheat on varsity and he has it playing like all American without the cheating

And I run a pro style offense and I have no problem getting my #1 receiver to lead the team in catches an receptions. You just have to learn to read the defense and find the holes in the zone to throw it

Same here. I run a Pro Style offense. I have my #1 WR a true freshman leading my team in receptions, yards and TD's. I am in year 2 of my current dynasty.

It is all about reading the defense. Some games my number 2 has the hot hand. But I have seen a nice balance between my number 1 and number 2. I could abuse the cpu with my slot WR (a house rule for me with EA football is to limit my use of the slot) so I look towards the sidelines or run my wideouts across the middle sometimes etc. I do run the ball at least 25 times a game regardless. It set's up my play action beautifully.

I am in the boat that the game is playing good (not perfect of course) and the passing game is fun...at least for me with the MK Harsh Slider set on Slow speed.

The new patch should also help out with the overall game with tendencies being fixed and i fully expect a tuner to address the Safety and DB logic.

Bottom line though (with this slider set at least) is if you make a bad pass the cpu will make you pay....big time. Scrambling and throwing balls away plays a big role in this years game and that is a very welcome surprise.

Re: the passing game is ruining ncaa 12 for me

I also really like the passing game this year. I appreciate that the CPU defense is stronger as it makes the game more challenging. Here's some background:
  • In every incarnation of NCAA in the past and forever in the future I'm a run first guy. I'd run on every down if I could.
  • I play on AA with most sliders near default. The CPU rush/my pass blocking are default and my QBA is @30. After season 1 of my dynasty I'm moving it down to 25 since my 2 scramblers (Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner) both completed 60+% of their passes.
  • I'm a spread option guy who never calls plays from under center (my pb has 20 SG and 4 pistol formations).
  • Since I always have scramblers I generally stick to short passes (hence the decent completion %) and rarely chuck it down field.
  • The pogo stick LBs can be annoying, but you just need to wait until the receiver is not behind them. Usually the only times they give me issues is when I don't see them.
  • Out of the SG (again I've never run from under center) I've had a lot of luck with screens.
  • I led the B1G in sacks allowed, but I don't think the pass rush is too strong (otherwise I'd adjust the sliders for it). I think this is due to the fact that I'm slow to read my progressions and I'm usually too scared to try to squeeze a ball in a tight spot (especially with my erratic scrambling QBs).
Here's what I did in my 1st year @ Michigan:

PlayerPOSQB RatingCOMPATTYARDSTDINTCOMP %YDS/COMPSACKEDLONG
Denard RobinsonQB158.7140231216019860.615.43077
Devin GardnerQB157.036604836160.013.4971

PlayerPOSRECYDSAVGTDLONGRACAVG RACDROPS
Roy RoundtreeWR4490520.697746910.70
Darryl StonumWR3355716.95712577.86
Junior HemingwayWR3245914.36391865.81

Kevin KogerTE1618311.4127472.94
Vincent SmithHB911913.216412413.81

My receiver depth chart is Roundtree -> Hemingway -> Stonum -> Odoms so my #1 guy was easily my leader with my #2 guy just barely behind my #3. Most (all?) of my HB's catches are on screens (note the YPC and the fact that he has more YAC than receiving yards).

Re: the passing game is ruining ncaa 12 for me

The two things I've figured out about the passing game in NCAA 12 is that:

a) The QB accuracy slider doesn't work
b) Placing the ball is next to impossible. There weren't many things I liked about Madden 11, but one was that you had some degree of control over where you wanted to put the ball. At the receiver's feet? A bit behind him on a fade route? You had full control.

In NCAA 12, you have next to no control over where the ball goes.

Ill agree with the first part and say that yes, the QB accuracy slider is really weird this year. Even with it pretty low I still see lots of completions, and the difference between 35 and 50 is barely noticeable at all.

However, i disagree about ball placement. I'm able to target receivers high and low with the left stick when throwing with relative ease. In fact, this often how I overthrow my receivers. I'll often try to hit my WR high but end up firing it over his head (I have yet to play with an amazing QB yet so bear with me). I dont think thats much of an issue.

IMO the passing game is frustrating, but not broken. Its just 100x harder than any other NCAA game i've played, due to the overall improved cpu pass defense.

I really dont have much of an issue with linebackers jumping up. Occasionally Ill see something thats unrealistic, but more often than not they're knocking down passes i'm trying to laser in, as opposed to passes with slightly more arc/touch.
