If I want to watch television with my wife, I can pull out the laptop and recruit while we watch shows/movies rather than me tying up the television doing recruiting. Frankly, I like being able to fire up the game and play, knowing that I have already taken care of my recruiting in my spare time, rather than being chained to the PS3.

Also with recruiting via OD, each each weekly update will give you a breakdown via email of which of your recruits committed and to whom. Obviously, you can track this manually, but for me I like to see it captured in that nice snapshot. Plus, I can go back and track week-by-week when certain people committed.

2) Season tracking...it's nice to log on and see that week-to-week report, and it goes for multiple seasons. To have a newspaper-like report of each game with a headline and highlights from the game contained right there is pretty cool.

Those are my reasons for wanting to do it...haven't done it yet though.
+1 for this.

it's just a convenience thing for me.

i much more prefer to recruit via the web, i have more time at work to browse my dynasty, scout other teams, search the recruits, etc.

for me, being able to bring the game with me where ever i go is very handy, and really helps to keep you invested into your dynasty and all the ongoing intricacies.

i'm hoping they update the website soon, and also hope it adds even more functionality.

Those are the reasons I have not done a one player OD. I want to for the reasons listed earlier, but if I am going to do a one player OD then I should have full access and functionality.

I like the ability to download the recruiting class to excel as well. It makes setting up your recruiting board much easier if you are one who looks at individual ratings, not OVR.

By scouting other teams do you mean going through their roster?

Re: Benefits of a 1 team OD?

I've run all my dynasties as 1 player OD's for the past couple years. Similar to most people, I like it because I can either recruit on the web (it's a bit faster than on my PS3) and I can download the recruit spreadsheet to better set up my board. I have an excel work book that I load my current roster and recruit class into. By looking at my roster in excel, I can more easily identify which positions I need to go after (I generally like to have a set number of players at each position), and looking at ratings this way is easier than on the console (through sorting, filtering, etc...).

The main drawback for me is the time everytime I do something like update my depth chart or make a formation sub on my console, it has to upload some info, and this little delay can be quite annoying. Also, advancing weeks always seems to take longer than it should. I have addressed this by sometimes using the web advance week feature whenever I'm done with my game for the week.

The other drawback of course is the transfer failures, but everyone knows about this by now.

For the reasons listed above and on the first page - I also like going online b/c you can share your dynasty, write the articles, review the pictures etc. on your laptop/computer and you aren't tied to the console.

Re: Benefits of a 1 team OD?

These are some of the pros/cons that I can think of. I'm sure there's more.
*Disclaimer: I play a 1 team offline dynasty and a 12 team OD.

1 team OD:
Pros:
  • Dynasty wire. I actually don't use the stat tracking (even in my OD) since it only keeps track of 1 year at a time and you can't go back and look @ career totals or anything like that. I track both my offline and my OD in avid.
  • DW's highlights are much more accessible than an offline dynasty's which are a royal pain to go back and look at.
  • Recruiting online week by week.
  • Downloadable stats, rosters, recruits, etc. You can get these in an offline too by simply hosting your offline temporarily to download the recruits or whatever, and then go back to playing your offline.

Cons:
  • See pros for offline dynasties
  • It's online so there's a whole new layer of potential issues to worry about. IE. Transfer failed errors ruining the integrity of your dynasty. If your internet is temporarily out, you can't play. In the extreme case, a prolonged outage like the playstation network being out for weeks or whatever that was would hose you. etc.

Offline dynasty
Pros:
  • Can create recruits
  • Can sim CPU games. I sim every top 25 game and every B1G game every week so I can see the results 1 at a time.
  • Can choose your CPU opponents' uniforms. If I played in the Pac12 (which I do in my OD) I'd hate having to see Oregon's default home and away uniforms every year instead of combination #153. In the B1G as Michigan, I play aOSU annually and sometimes I'll pick their normal unis and sometimes I'll pick their PCs. Etc.
  • Can edit coaches (I'm not sure if you can do this in an OD, but I think not). My roster was bugged with JoePa being 22 years old so I fixed it so that he retired. If I'm unhappy with a team's pass/run ratio or aggressiveness on D, or even their playbook, etc, I can change it.
  • No waiting in line to advance! In one of my test ODs I actually had to wait in line for 20 minutes just to advance from the preseason to week 1. When you get to bye weeks and, even worse, the offseason, advancing your offline is way faster than an OD.
  • You can always save/reload whenever you want. If you accidentally selected 10 minutes to spend on that recruit instead of 60, reload.

Re: Benefits of a 1 team OD?

Can you copy your current offline dynasty to an OD? After reading this thread I really want to play online.
